Happy 4th of July!

Happy 4th of July to those of you who live right here in the good 'ole USA!  I hope you're all having a fun and safe holiday weekend!  We had planned to go camping but thought twice about doing so, when we took a glimpse at the predicted, rainy forecast and found out that the lake had canceled their usual fireworks show due to a lack of funds and staff.  Bummer!  Then, we thought about heading down to the Riverfront for the KCRiverFest and staying at the Marriott for a beautiful view of the fireworks show right from the comfort of our hotel room, where Adina could be sleeping; because let's face it, she'd rather being doing so, at this age, anyway.  We decided, however, that it would serve us better to save our pennies for our upcoming, family vacation.  Anyway, that left us with no plans, in particular, to celebrate our country's Independence Day.  So, we put out the flag...
went to church, all decked out in our red, white, and blues...
and got to hear a friend of ours preach a fantastic sermon; took a much-needed, family nap; ate a yummy, BBQ dinner...
complete with festive, mint brownies...
and had a little fireworks show, right in our own backyard, complete with smoke bombs...
poppers...
and sparklers...
before getting cleaned up and putting the kiddos to bed.  Now, BJ and I are watching Fantastic 4, while listening to the rain patter against our bedroom windows and hearing the crackle of fireworks in the distance.  Boring?  No!  We love our kids and know that this was much more up their alley than a hot, rainy weekend at the lake or a people-packed stroll, around the Riverfront, while awaiting the show to begin... well past their bedtimes, I might add.

I want to take a minute to send out a HUGE thank you  to all our past and present service men and women who have given up more than I could ever imagine to give us the freedoms that make us, not only proud, but also, grateful to call ourselves Americans.

Before I run, let me leave you with a little, red, white, and blue inspiration from my own garden; but, please, be sure to check out my previous, Tuesday Trigger: A Pleasing Palette & CAS-tastic Wednesday Sketch Challenge post, and enjoy the rest of your holiday weekend!
