RW Laser Cuts Chipboard Contest

Monday, July 12, 2010

We're recovering nicely from our busy weekend, just in time for a week of Heartland Family Adventure, at our church, I might add.  Does the summer ever slow down?!

I'm playing along with Becky Fleck's RW Laser Cuts Chipboard Contest, again, this month.  She provided us with, not only a layout sketch, but also a color scheme.
I softened the color palette, while still keeping with the core colors, and came up with this.
I started this page by machine stitching two, white-threaded, straight-stitch boxes, one inside the other, around the outside edges of the soft yellow, distressed page.  After adhering the sonogram picture, which was framed by a piece of distressed, coral paper, as well as the punched, aqua, cardstock, journal box and strip of aqua, striped, patterned paper, I machine stitched a white-threaded, straight stitch across the top of the aqua, striped, patterned, paper strip, running over onto the page itself.  I, then, adhered the foam Thickers "happiness..." title, just below the stitched, aqua, striped, patterned, paper strip, and journaled, getting to see you for the very first time, learning when I'd get to hold you in my arms, beginning to think about all I had to teach you, waiting.
I made the flowers by layering five, distressed, patterned, paper punches on top of one another; hand stitching, with white string, matching buttons into the centers of each; and adhering them inside a paper doily ring, which had its center cut out and, then, was cut, from outside to inside, in one place and folded and gathered into a ring.  The banner was made from stamped, in Tattered Rose and Barely Banana inks, on white cardstock, and hand cut polka dot and floral, party hats, turned upside down.  I saw this idea in the new Stampin' Up 2010 - 2011 Idea Book & Catalog and was, completely, inspired!  I just knew that I had to give it a try!  That covers only two of the three colors/patterns, though.  The final color was hand cut from the same aqua, striped, patterned paper as above.  They were, then, laced with aqua, embroidery floss, which was tied in little knots at either end; adhered, across the top left corner, with dimensionals; and embellished with tiny pearls.
A couple, antique, flower brads, as well as hand cut; stamped, in Tattered Rose ink, with the phrases "Tickled Pink" and "Crib Notes"; and punched, from a soft yellow, checkered, patterned paper, tickets, complete the look.
As always, thank you so much for visiting my little corner of the web, and have a great day!
