Weekend Snapshots

Like I said, in my previous, Friday Faves post, we finally had a weekend at home.  Woohoo!  The boys woke up, before the sun even rose, on Saturday morning, to make use of my hubby's trout fishing license.  Unfortunately, they only caught a couple of little bass, but it was the fun they had that really mattered.  Us girls tried to sleep in but found our minds busy with thoughts of the day ahead, which included turning those scrumptious apples we picked, back here, into loads and loads of yummy apple butter.  And here's how it all takes place in my teeny tiny kitchen.  These are my precious and invaluable, peeling and coring helpers...
and this is my prep space...
which lies right next to the stove top, where all the cooking and canning happens.  The jars you see here are awaiting their turn in the boiling water bath.
And here are the finished jars, waiting to be dressed up and gifted to family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, and passers-by this holiday season.
We made 41 pints in all, folks!
For those of you who immediately started counting ;), one jar, from our lot, went straight into our fridge, and another broke during the canning process.  That's what I get for trying to recycle!  Ugh!
Believe it or not, we still have all these beauties left for making pies or applesauce or just munching on or whatnot.
After eight hours of making apple butter, I still took a little time to whip up a yummy apple crisp to go with our dinner, before attempting to get the sticky off of everything, from dishes to floor, in my kitchen.  Mmmmm!
Needless to say, I didn't have energy left for anything, that night, other a funny movie and cuddle time with my hubby.  Oh!  And sometime, during the whole process, my little kiddo got a birthday gift from her Aunt Hannah and Uncle Johan.  Thanks, guys!  She LOVES it to pieces!
Sunday morning brought church again.  Then, we were home to attempt to clear the fridge of leftovers and make room for tonight's new groceries, before nap time and a leisurely stroll to the park for a little playtime and to end the weekend right.
Thanks so much for peeking in, ya'll!  We aren't much into celebrating Halloween for a number of reasons.  So, like I said before, we'll be making a trip to the grocery store and enjoying a beautiful, fall day; but to those of you who are, stay safe and be blessed!  Hugs!
