PDCC126 - The Scrap Cake

Wednesday, April 4, 2012

It's that time again!  Time for The Play Date Cafe's weekly color challenge, specifically, this go around, for Challenge #126.
It's been awhile since I was able to sneak in a layout over at the PDCC, but these avocado, blue mist, and grey wool colors seemed to compliment my creative stash brilliantly.  So, without further adieu, here's my bit of inspiration.
I started this layout by stamping the "friend" text, in various locations to either side of the gray, hounds tooth, base page, as well as the alphabet stencil, in Basic Black ink.  I then stamped the butterfly image, in Jet Black ink, so that the ink would stay fast as I added a little color with Marina Mist and Old Olive inks and a blender pen.
I then, haphazardly, added an olive, star, patterned, paper strip, anchoring it with gray-threaded, zig-zag, machine stitches; a punched and machine stitched, with gray-threaded, straight stitches, strip of blue, garden gate, patterned paper; and a die cut, gray, ledger, patterned, paper banner, all adhered flush with the right side of the layout.
After adhering the largest photograph, all of which were matted with Whisper White cardstock, I tucked an "adventure" flashcard angled below it and completed this side with a May 9, 2007, date label.
A vintage, journaling card was adhered, over the stamped text, in the top left corner of the design; flanked with a gray, "Best of Times" tab; and used to journal, We spent hours at Antioch Park with Mia and her Mom, riding bikes, playing in the town, picnicking, and relishing in the joy of one another's company.
A couple of patterned, paper strips mimic and receive the same stitched treatment as the right side of the layout; but a gray, sticker pennant replaces the die cut banner from the right.  Oh!  And I need to add that both the die cut banner and the sticker pennant were split in half below the pictures to reach to either side of them.  LOVE this trick!  An "it takes a long time to grow an old friend", green, leaf, stamp die cut; "3", to represent the age of both kiddos, tin pin, which was backed with a green, leaf, trinket pin, as well as a hemp twine bow; and "simple JOY" title, which was created from blue, glitter, mini alphas, complete the left side of the layout.
A couple more, patterned, paper strips, whose treatment again mimics the rest of the design, and a vintage, floral brand round out the design.
Now, it's your turn, ya'll!  You have until the close of the day EST, next Tuesday, April 10, 2012, to link up your takes over at the challenge link above.  Please also use that link to see what the rest of the gals have been up to, as well as to find out what you're playing for this week from our sponsor, The Scrap Cake.
Thanks so much for taking a moment to stop by, and have a truly terrific day!
