SIT #86

Thursday, August 2, 2012

Y'all ready for another fabulous sketch, from Tiffany, for Sketches in Thyme's Challenge #86?  Well, it's that time again.  And I just love that you're getting a little bit of a lead, this month, with our first challenge being here on only August 2nd.  Woohoo!  So, let's dive right in.
I started this layout by trimming the left edge of a piece of ivory, text, patterned paper with a die-cut strip of red, glitter paper and anchoring it, near the bottom right corner of the light blue, polka dot, patterned paper, which was ink distressed with Tea Dye and Antique Linen inks, with black-threaded, straight, machine stitches.  I then layered a strip of lime, star, patterned paper, as well as a slightly skinnier strip of red, advertisement, patterned paper, horizontally, near the base of the ivory, text, patterned paper and anchored them both with black-threaded, straight, machine stitches.  More stitches, running over onto the base page itself, anchor the Cricut-cut, from the same patterned paper as the base page, "GLOPPY GOOP" title.
A bright blue, advertisement, patterned paper, which was anchored with black-threaded, zig-zag stitches, grounds a ledger transparency, as well as a red, journaling card, which I used to pen out my recipe, whose "INGREDIENTS:" and "DIRECTIONS:" labels, as well as the "RECIPE:" label above the title, were stamped in Basic Black ink.
And y'all, I cannot find this recipe anywhere online, and it's one of our faves!  We make it, with friends, a lot; and it seems to be a hidden gem, because no one has heard of it.  So, I'm going to share it with you, just in case you cannot read it on my layout.  If you've got kiddos, it makes for hours of FUN!

Gloppy Goop
Ingredients:
1 c. glue dissolved in
1 c. hot water
1-1/2 tsp. Borax dissolved in another
1 c. hot water

Directions: Mix all ingredients in a plastic or glass bowl.  Add food coloring to hot water, if desired.  Store in airtight container.

After adhering my photographs, I added a couple of hand-cut hexagons, boasting the same patterned paper as the base page, to the bottom right and top left of the centerpiece; anchored them with black-threaded, straight, machine stitches...
and trimmed the right side corners of the far right photograph with a couple of punched, from a bright blue, interlocking circles, patterned paper, photo corners, which were adhered with foam tape.
A stamped, in Basic Black ink, "Name:/Age:" grid rounds out the bottom right corner of the design.
Finally I created the embellishment cluster, which includes a lime, number one, journaling sprout, which I labeled with the word "grade"; die-cut, from Lucky Limeade cardstock, and ink distressed, leafy branch; chipboard, "SCHOOL SUPPLY" sticker; red, chipboard star, which I glittered; and a couple of Baker's Twine bows.  A vintage pin tag completes the look.
Now, it's your turn!  Here's this week's sketch to help get you started.
We've also joined forces, this month, with Color Me Scrappy's Challenge #9 for a gorgeous color palette that you just don't want to miss!
You have until the close of the month, on Friday, August 31, 2012, to link up your takes over in the right hand column of both the Sketches in Thyme Blog AND the Color Me Scrappy Blog.  Please also don't forget to stop by the challenge link above to see what the rest of the Mavens, as well as the Color Me Scrappy Design Team, has cooked up, just for your viewing pleasure.  Thanks so much for stopping by!  Have a blessed Thursday!
