SIT Blast From the Past #1

Thursday, September 6, 2012

This month, at Sketches in Thyme, we're revisiting a few sketches from the past, beginning with an oldie but a goodie from way back here.  It's our Blast From the Past #1, and here's how I've interpreted it today.
I started this layout by focusing on this week's sketch for the left side of the layout...
and anchoring a large piece of red, designer, patterned paper in the bottom right corner of the gray, floral, patterned, paper, base page.  I then adhered a strip of star, patterned paper, which had been trimmed, across its bottom edge, with a punched strip of soft blue, crackle, patterned paper and, through its center, with a strip of red, stripe Washi Tape, horizontally, near the center of the red, designer, patterned paper and flush with the right side of the layout.  Everything was then anchored with gray-threaded, straight and/or zig-zag, machine stitches, before framing my photos with Whisper White cardstock and adhering them in their respective location.
I then tucked three, stamped, in White ink, with the "thankful" text, kraft tags under the bottom of the soft blue, crackle, punched strip and topped them with die cut, canvas pennants, as well as those pink Twinkle Goosebumps of mine that turned white.  The polka dot pennants were then stamped, in Night of Navy ink, on Whisper White cardstock; hand cut out; and adhered in between each stamped, kraft tag.
My "park play" title was created from denim alphas, which I anchored with more gray-threaded, straight, machine stitches.
The only journaling on this layout is the July 4, 2009 date and Antioch Park, Merriam, KS location and can be found on the layered, from bottom to top, red, ornate, journaling card; red, Dennison label; and soft blue label.  It was then dressed up with a handmade, from glitter paper, fan flower, which was topped with a punched, Night of Navy, cardstock circle; large, white button; and a red, star button from my stash.  The latter two were laced through with white string, before the entire thing was flanked with a white, seam binding ribbon bow; a die cut, from blue, patterned paper, branch; and a couple of hemp twine bows.
That same fan flower and hemp twine bow combo can be found on the right side of the layout...
in collection with a vintage pin tag, dimensional butterfly, and chipboard house.
The stitched, star and soft blue, crackle, patterned papers, as well as the red, stripe Washi Tape, were also duplicated on the right side; carry from vertical edge to vertical edge; and were grounded, along their right end, with a strip of that same red, designer, patterned paper from before, which extends the vertical length of the right side of the page and was anchored, along its left edge, with gray-threaded, straight, machine stitches.
I also created a banner in the same way as the one on the left with the exception of their tops being seen and laced through with Baker's Twine, tied, in bows, at either end.
A couple of punched, from navy, interlocking circles, patterned paper, photo corners highlight one of my favorite photographs and complete the look.
And here's the one-pager, that I turned into two, to help get you started.
Further inspiration for this layout came from ScrapFIT's Warm-Up #31 to use patterned paper as your background, Color Me Scrappy's Challenge #11...
and The Shabby Tea Room's Week #130: Labor of Love.
That's all, for now, folks!  I can't wait to see what you all create!  You have until the close of the month, on Sunday, September 30, 2012, to link up your takes over in the right hand column of the Sketches in Thyme Blog.  Please be sure to stop by the challenge link above to check out any further September details, as well as our Top 3 for August post to get all kinds of delicious inspiration.  Congrats, ladies!  And thanks so much, to you all, for stopping by!  Be blessed!
