SIT #98

Thursday, January 3, 2013

It's that time again!  Time for Sketches in Thyme's first sketch of the month, specifically Challenge #98!  And because we're back to school today and trying to re-establish our regular routines, I'm just going to get right to how it inspired me.
I started this layout by creating the grid foundation, from my photographs and color-coordinating, patterned papers, across the text embossed and sanded, just to bring out the lettering more, black, cardstock, base page.  One of those patterned papers was then topped with a flocked, yellow, star transparency and another with a clear transparency which had a star die-cut from its center.  The latter was anchored in place, along with the outside edges of the completed grid design, with red-threaded, straight, machine stitches.  I then created the "there's always time for a GOOD book" title from red letters; blue, block letters; and mini black and ivory, chalkboard alphas.
A red, cardstock, sticker bracket; couple of die-cut, from orange, patterned paper, stars; Pure Poppy buttons, laced with hemp twine; clear gemstones; and a "4", kraft, typography number round out the top of the design.
Another die-cut star, topped with a Pure Poppy button, laced with hemp twine and flanked with a couple more gemstones, continues the star theme...
and a fourth yet, paired with a couple more die-cut from wafer board, crimped, and distressed with a dry brush and acrylic paint, finishes it.  A red-framed, April 30, 2008, date label was then secured with a strip of black, polka dot Washi Tape.
Finally, a cardstock, sticker, journaling prompt, which was dressed up with a length of blue, gingham ribbon, laced with a hemp twine bow and reads, You're always asking somebody to read you a book.  This was the morning after your Awana Award Night, and you were still strutting your stuff in your award-laden vest, got tucked in behind the bottom photograph to complete the look.
Further inspiration for this layout came from ScrapFIT's Workout #83: Wish Upon a Star and Color Me Scrappy's Challenge #23.
And here's this week's sketch to get you started.
I can't wait to see what you all come up with!  I'm a little behind, on last month's visits, due to the holidays, but rest assured that I'll make my rounds.  You have until the close of the month, on Thursday, January 31, 2013, to link up this month's takes, in the right hand column of the Sketches in Thyme Blog, in order to be in the running to be named one of our elite Top Three and a Guest Designer, with us, for the month of March.  Please also be sure to stop by the challenge link above to see what the rest of the Team A Mavens have created with this fun sketch.  Thanks so much for stopping by!  Have a truly spectacular day!
