Paper Sweeties Sketch Inspiration #5

Thursday, February 28, 2013

Hey, y'all!  So excited to be here sharing a brand new Sketch Inspiration Challenge #5 from Paper Sweeties!
I started this card by stamping the Sweeties, in Jet Black ink, on a piece of Oatmeal cardstock; coloring them with colored pencils and mineral spirits; and dressing them in clothing prepared in the same way, hand cut out, and placed in their present positions.  Sophie also received a few Chocolate Chip ink freckles.  I then stamped the banner, in Jet Black ink, just above them and paper-pieced it with a mustard, polka dot, patterned paper, before machine stitching, with double, yellow-threaded, straight, machine stitches, around its edges and adhering it in the top center of the Pool Party, cardstock, card face.
The sentiment tag was laced with a denim ribbon, tied in a bow, which was embellished with an aqua, crinkle ribbon, tied in a knot and a yellow, fringed ribbon, tied in a bow, and topped with an aqua button, laced with a hemp twine bow.
It was then adhered, with foam tape, just below the colored Sweeties to complete the look.
Now, it's your turn!  And here's this month's sketch to get you started.  You have until the close of the month, on Sunday, March 31, 2013, to link up your takes, over at that challenge link above, in order to be in the running to win a $20 gift certificate to the Paper Sweeties Shoppe, which will be laden with brand spankin' new Easter goodies TODAY.  Woohoo!
Instead of the regularly scheduled March new stamps being released on the 15th of the month, Debbie bumped up the release schedule so that the Easter theme stamps can be ordered for the upcoming Easter holiday, spring events, and more!  In addition, to help celebrate the March 1st new stamp release, Debbie is offering FREE SHIPPING, from March 1st through March 5th, on your Paper Sweeties orders.  Use FREE SHIPPING coupon code at checkout to redeem your discount!

MFW: Camera Craze & TSTR #155

Wednesday, February 27, 2013

Morning, y'all!  Just popping in to share a sweet, girly, little creation and a few more of those snow pics.  Enjoy!
I started this card by piecing together the notebook and pink, skinny, stripe, patterned papers on a White, cardstock mat; machine stitching, with white-threaded, zig-zag stitches, around its edges; and stamping the "remember this: IT'S YOUR DAY!" sentiment, in Jet Black ink, vertically, in the bottom right corner.
I then wrapped a length of white, seam binding ribbon, vertically, around the prepped piece, between the two patterned papers; tied it, in a dressy bow, near the top of the prepped piece; and embellished it with a pink button, laced with a couple of hemp twine bows, before adhering the entire thing, with foam tape, to the Kraft, cardstock, card face.
The frame was made by layering five, White, cardstock die-cuts one on top of the other and glittering it.  I then backed it with a sheet of ivory, text, patterned paper, which had three stars die cut from its center.  The various, pink, patterned papers were then filled in behind the die-cut stars, before it was adhered, with foam tape, just below the embellished bow and to the left of the stamped sentiment.  A "DO NOT REMOVE THIS TAG" label was tucked in above its top edge; and a stamped, in Jet Black ink, on White cardstock, colored with colored pencils and mineral spirits, and hand cut out camera, adhered with foam tape, fills in its center.  A touch more glitter for the flash and a bit of Crystal Effects for the lens complete the look.
Inspiration for this card came from the Camera Craze Challenge in the Moxie Fab World and The Shabby Tea Room's Week #155: Pink Party.
Now, how about those pics I promised?  It's really hard to tell how much is out there, until you're in the thick of it.  We got another nine to ten inches of snow at the time these pics were taken, not including the two inches the weather people said melted on contact.  Then, two inches more was on the ground this am, and it's still coming down.  I just love that it's so easy to get my kiddos out to play in the cold, when there's snow on the ground ;).  Power went out for thousands of people across our area, but we were fortunate to have heat all through the cold night.  PTL!
Thanks, as always, for stopping by, and have a wonderful Wednesday!

Weekend Snapshots

Tuesday, February 26, 2013

With more snow pouring down outside our doors this am, I just had to pop in here to share some weekend pics of my kiddos enjoying their time in the first round.  We got about a foot of super wet, beautiful snow, which couldn't be any more perfect for the new seed my hubby just laid on our lawn.
As soon as it started, Adina propped her stuffed critters in her bedroom window to watch.  She reminds me so much of myself at her age :).
And you just gotta love a helpful neighbor, even if the street plows threw it all back.  Sigh.  Thanks, Rick!
We've been totally enjoying every minute of it, especially once the snow hardened enough to make a great slope for sledding.  Well, that, AND the fact that my hubby has been getting lots more work done at home than at his office.
I also couldn't resist sharing these sweet pics of my kiddos enjoying an animal book on Ezekiel's Nook.  I just adore those moments, when my big kiddo actually acts like the big kiddo and treats his little sister with kindness and love.  I keep hoping that, with age and maturity, they'll become more frequent in number; but until then, I'm relishing in what I can get.
Well, I'm off to finish up yesterday's laundry and help with up our studies.  Thanks so much for checking in on us!  That swing, that my daughter is sitting on above, is no longer swinging free, and this round is worrying me a bit more with how much it's sticking to power lines and tree branches.  So, stay safe and warm out there!

City Crafter Week 147

Monday, February 25, 2013

Happy Monday, y'all!  I hope you had a blessed weekend.  We mostly hung out around home, other than to cheer Ezekiel's basketball team to a win on Saturday.  Woohoo!  I've never seen such a close game in the league he plays through.  It actually had me on the edge of my seat right up until the last second.  Ezekiel has learned so much, and we couldn't be more proud.  Plus, it's just so fun to see him enjoying every ounce of it.

Then, on Sunday, it was just church and a quick stop by the grocery store again to stock up for our next winter storm, which is coming through tonight.  I know lots of people are sick of winter and ready for spring, but I love it to bits!  I mean, it's about time we got some moisture.  Plus, if it has to be this cold, it might as well snow.  Well, despite my enjoyment of our winter weather, the creation I have to share with you all today is definitely a prelude to spring with its bright, cheery palette.  We've got an awful lot of family birthdays coming up, and my stash was running low.  Enjoy!
I started this card by piecing together the lime polka dot and mulit-colored, plaid, patterned papers and stamping the plaid paper, in Rose Red ink, with the row of hearts, which later, received a healthy dose of glitter.
I then filled in the space between the two papers with a die-cut strip of White cardstock, as well as a portion of a paper doily, before framing the prepped piece with both Rose Red cardstock and white-threaded, zig-zag, machine stitches.
The space between the die-cut cardstock and paper doily was wrapped with a length of sheer, white, polka ribbon, tied, in a bow, near the top edge of the prepped piece and embellished with a green button, laced with a hemp twine bow.  The entire thing was then adhered, with foam tape, to the Kraft, cardstock, card face.
The sentiment panel was created by stamping the frame, in Crumb Cake ink, on an ink distressed, White, cardstock die cut.  I then stamped the scalloped circle, in Lucky Limeade ink, in the top center of the stamped frame and highlighted its center with stamped, in Not Quite Navy ink, on a White, cardstock die cut, blueberries, adhered with foam tape.  The blueberries, too, were topped with my favorite, fine dusting of Dazzling Diamonds.  Finally, the sentiment panel was stamped, in Chocolate Chip ink, with the "Sweet BIRTHDAY WISHES" sentiment and adhered, with foam tape, in the center of the card face, just to the bottom right of the embellished bow.
Inspiration for this card came from City Crafter Challenge Blog's Week 147: All That Glitters.
Thanks so much for stopping by, and have a truly terrific, work week!

We're back with another delicious color palette from Color Combos Galore and just in time for your weekend scrapping to boot.  Woohoo!  I'm hoping there'll be lots of just such around my place, as we're covered in snow, and it's cold out there.  Plus, nobody's going anywhere, until the roads are cleared anyway; and even then, it won't be far.  So, how about that page?
I started this layout by stamping the vintage, notepad image, in White ink, near the bottom left corner of the ink distressed, Blush Blossom, cardstock, base page.  I then anchored a trio of patterned, paper strips, with brown-threaded, straight, machine stitches, vertically and just right of center.
The star burst bits were cut, from patterned paper, with my Cameo and adhered in a grid design, before adhering my photos, which were framed, vertically, with a Whisper White, cardstock mat, near their right side.  I then tucked a scalloped, journaling card, which reads, There's just nothing like watching you enjoy life.  Live it up, my girl!  I love you!, under the photos bottom right side and a coral, cardstock sticker under its top edge.
The butterflies were created by layering, from bottom to top, a canvas butterfly; die cut, vellum butterfly; and a stamped, in stamped-off, Calypso Coral ink, on Oatmeal cardstock, and hand cut butterfly, one on top of the other, with brown-threaded, back-and-forth, straight, machine stitches.
The "Sweet GIRL" title was created by cutting the prior, from Whisper White cardstock, with my Cameo and alphabet stickers.
A "noted:" tag, labeled, 3.15.12, Andersen Park, Mission, and a bunch of nude, enamel dots complete the look.
Further inspiration for this layout came from My Mind's Eye's February Sketch Challenge.
And here's this week's Inspiration Board #233 to get you started.
I chose Inspiration Photo 2 to Focus on Photo: About or for a Female, but my little smattering of enamel dots were inspired by Photo 1 to Focus on Accents: Cabochons.  Can't wait to see what you all cook up with this beauty!  Don't forget that you have until the close of the month, on Thursday, February 28, 2013, to add your takes, on any of this month's challenges, including CCG231 and CCG232, as well as this week's palette, tagged CCG233, to our photo gallery.  Thanks, as always, for stopping by; and have a truly blessed, safe, and warm weekend!  Hugs!

Friday Faves

Hey, y'all!  If you can believe it, we're near the end of another month once again, which means it's time for February's Friday Faves, and it all begins with Crate Paper's DIY Shop 12x12 Paper Pad.  I just can't resist a handful of neutrals, paired with my favorite color palette and a bit of sunny yellow, not to mention the mix of patterns is just delightful.  Yum!
Last weekend, my hubby and I went out on a little, belated, Valentine's Day date.  While we were away, we popped into Archiver's and picked up a few things, including these Metal Vintage Little Birdie Trinkets by Maya Road.  I just couldn't love them any more!
But if they're just a little too cute for your style, and you're still looking for that metal appeal, try on Freckled Fawn's trendy Paper Clip Arrows for size.
LOVE these Large Coconut Wooden Buttons by Button Stand!  I just can't resist a wood element.
I also couldn't help tossing in a few goodies from Elle's Studio's new You and Me collection.  I just adore the pinks and turquoises, and the chalkboard elements are to die for!
Just because I'm still working on building up that blue and white palette in my bedroom and have had my eyes peeled for something extra special, I had to share this beautiful Vintage Blue Floral Embroidery Linen Pillow by Chirp and Bloom.  Check out the detail!  And I love that bit of large, ric-rac trim.
Finally, and with spring right on our heels, despite all the snow we're getting here in the Midwest, I wanted to conclude with these sweet Chick Salt and Pepper Shakers from Pottery Barn...
and A Bit of Lovely's darling Pink and Grey Booties.  I put those same little buttons, just in a different color, on one of Adina's Easter dresses a while back, and they still have my heart.  So cute!
Well, that covers it, for now, folks!  I'll be back, this afternoon, with another beautiful inspiration board from Color Combos Galore.  Until then, have a terrific start to your weekends!
