I'm just thrilled to get to be guest designing, for the month of May, with the talented girls from Color Me Scrappy!
Y'all, I just love these girls to bits and am so excited to share how this week's challenge inspired me!  So, let's just get started.  Shall we?
I started this page by cutting the seals, from doily, patterned paper, with my Cameo and adhering them, to the heart, patterned paper, base page, to anchor the left and bottom edges of the photo grouping.  I then layered a number of color-coordinating, patterned papers, haphazardly, just to their right and anchored them with pink-threaded, straight and zig-zag, machine stitches.
A Cameo-cut, from vellum, honeycomb piece, as well as a paper doily and an "OCT" Bingo card, was then layered over the patterned paper and behind the photos, which were matted with Whisper White cardstock.
Everything was then grounded with two, scallop, punched, patterned, paper strips, which were topped with a couple lengths of hemp twine, anchored, at either end, with staples and tied in a bow.  The "CAN I please hold KATIE?" title was created from gray alphabeans; a Cameo-cut, from black, damask, patterned paper, "please"; and pink, glitter alphas.
Just below the title, I journaled, Rarely a day passes when you don't ask to hold your special friend... Sometimes three and four times a day.  I just love that you have such a tender heart for God's creatures, and adhered an "adorable", cardstock sticker, which I also anchored with messy, pink-threaded, machine stitches, floating off the bottom of the page.
The "a day in the life OCT 17 2012" date was stamped, in Jet Black ink, in the top center of the design.
A length of black, floral Washi tape, running the length of the layout's right edge, and a couple of blossoms, die-cut from More Mustard cardstock; arranged in a fan shape; doodled upon; and grounded with black buttons, laced with hemp twine, complete the look.
Further inspiration for this page came from Scrap Your Story's Challenge #9: Journaling and Let's Get Sketchy's Week 5: Color Combo Challenge.  And here's Color Me Scrappy's Challenge #37 palette and sketch to get you all moving in the right direction.

10 Minute Craft Dash #17

Note: If you've come here looking for my Paper Sweeties Sketch Inspiration #7 post, please scroll down.

Happy May Day, y'all!  So excited to be here today joining the 10 Minute Craft Dash!  I think, by now, you all know that 10 minutes is beyond impossible for me.  I must create much slower than the bulk of you Craft Dash lovers or something.  So, I won't even tell you all how long today's creation took me.  It's not important ;), but I couldn't pass up this week's gorgeous palette.  Plus, Wplus9 Design is sponsoring this week's challenge with a $20 gift certificate to the Wplus9 Design Online Store.  Woohoo!
So, here's how I was inspired.
I started this card by stamping the frame and "Grandpa" sentiment, both in Jet Black ink, on a piece of woodgrain, patterned paper.  I couldn't help giving y'all a close-up of that sentiment.  LOVE that font to bits!
I then anchored it with a strip of coral, chevron, patterned paper, as well as an aqua, designer, patterned paper, which I had stamped, in Chocolate chip ink, with the "EAT.  SLEEP.  FISH." commands; framed the entire thing with a piece of Oatmeal cardstock; and machine stitched, with white-threaded, straight stitches, around the piece's combined edges and, with white-threaded, zig-zag stitches, between the connection of the two grounding papers.
A length of hemp twine was then wrapped, three times, around the card face, between the woodgrain and chevron papers and laced through a brown button, before being tied in a bow.
The entire thing was then adhered to the Kraft, cardstock, card face with foam tape, before the fish images were stamped, in stamped-off, Calypso Coral ink, on Oatmeal, cardstock die cuts and fitted into the stamped frame.  A cattail image, stamped, in Old Olive and Chocolate Chip inks, on an Oatmeal, cardstock die cut and glittered, flanks the bottom right corner of the frame; and a die cut and ink distressed, Oatmeal, cardstock sand dollar was tucked in behind it to complete the look.
And here's this week's Challenge #17 to get you all started.

Paper Sweeties Sketch Inspiration #7

Hey, y'all!  We're back with a brand new Paper Sweeties sketch to start your month out right.  Check out how I was inspired.
I started this card by topping the plaid, patterned paper, which was stamped, in Jet Black ink, with the "Love you much" sentiment and dressed up with a trio of aqua, enamel dots, with a piece of denim, patterned paper; framing it with White cardstock; and machine stitching, with white-threaded, straight stitches, a double frame around the combined pieces' edges.
A strip of vellum, which I die cut with the scalloped edge, was then adhered between the connection of the two patterned papers and topped with a length of aqua ribbon, which was wrapped around the prepped piece and tied off, to the right of the prepped piece, with a length of hemp twine, laced through an orange button and tied in a bow.
After adhering the prepped piece to the Kraft, cardstock, card face, I die cut both an orange, patterned, paper, heart frame and its White cardstock backing; stamped Abigail and Jake, in Jet Black ink, on the cardstock die cut; colored them with colored pencils and mineral spirits; and dressed them with clothing prepared in the same way.  The patterned, paper frame was than adhered, over the images, with foam tape; before the entire thing was backed with a piece of cheesecloth for texture and adhered, in its respective location, with foam tape.
Now, here's this month's Sketch Inspiration Challenge #7 to get you started.
You have until the close of the month, on Friday, May 31, 2013, to link up your takes, over at that challenge link above, in order to be in the running to win a $20 gift certificate to the Paper Sweeties Shoppe.  So, get to it, y'all, and have a terrific day!

Weekend Snapshots

Monday, April 29, 2013

Good afternoon, y'all!  I hope you all had wonderful weekends!  Ours was busy from the get go and started with rainy weather and a chill in the air but ended on a more relaxing note with gorgeous sunshine and the warmth of spring.  But before I get to those pics, I wanted to share a few things that happened toward the close of last week.  Ezekiel's 5th grade curriculum arrived!  He seems to have fallen in love with history this year, or at least, that's what he is most excited about right now.
And I couldn't help but throw in this comparison between my stack and his.  It's the first time mine has been taller than his.  Gulp.  Help!
Last Thursday, we went to Mahaffie Farmstead for a Growing Up Victorian homeschool program.  They had two separate tracks, for the kiddos, based upon age.  When I called over there, they said that my cuties, being as they're nearly five and a half years apart, would be close together all morning, despite the fact that they were in the separate tracks, but I didn't see Ezekiel for most of the day.  Fortunately, my friend brought her hubby along, so he was able to go with Ezekiel and his daughter, while my friend and I stuck with the wee ones.  Anyway, we got to churn butter in the cellar, grind corn...
to feed the chickens...
and plant corn...
and little and big kids alike got to ride the stagecoach.  The weather was perfect, and it was so fun to get to connect with lots of other homeschool families from our area.
Then, on Saturday, we were off to the Kansas City Zoo for a sneak peek of what will be our new Helzberg Penguin Plaza.  Well, the line for that was crazy long, and I overheard folks talking about how the wait wasn't worth it.  So, we skipped it; enjoyed delicious, free, for members, Chris Cakes pancakes...
and explored bits of the zoo under the protection of our umbrellas.  I completely forgot that my hubby doesn't usually get to go with us, so it was uber fun to see his wide eyes taking it all in and hear his questions.  I was helping my big kiddo take pics with his camera, too.  So, I forgot to take very many of my own, but I did get a few.
And finally, Ezekiel wanted to thank Grandpa and Grandma for the books he got in the mail for no reason in particular other than they love him ;).  Thanks so much, guys!  What a fun surprise!
Oh!  I also couldn't help but throw in this pic of chocolate cupcakes with peanut butter frosting.  Mmmm!  These ones went to a family, in our church, who just had a new baby.  Then, because the remainder of this particular batch was nearly cleaned up by the rest of my family, I whipped up another batch, with cream cheese frosting, to take to some friends' house, for dinner, on Saturday night.  LOVE cupcakes ;)!
That about covers it, folks.  Thanks so much for checking in on us, and have a truly blessed, work week!  Hugs!

Friday Faves

Friday, April 26, 2013

TGIF!  If you can believe it, next Wednesday is the first day of May.  Where does the time go?!  But that means that it's time for the April edition of my Friday Faves, and it begins with Jillibean Soup's Irish Farm House 12x12 Collection Pack.  LOVE the vintage vibe, little word bubbles, and mail-themed bits and pieces!
These Clear Pop Mint Alphas, from Heidi Swapp, are literally EVERYWHERE in the papercrafting world, and I just love 'em to bits!  Not only is there simply not enough of the color mint in the world, but I adore their size and see-through quality.
Amy totally rocked Impress' Confetti Dots rubber stamp, in her Wordless Wednesday post, last week!  So much so, that I would absolutely love to add it to my stash.  Imagine the possibilities!
Lovin' these cute, little Camera Paper Clips...
and this playful, new Doodle Heart Grid Washi Tape, both from Freckled Fawn!
We are HUGE bird watchers at our house.  So, you can imagine my excitement, when I discovered this See-Through Window Birdhouse from An American Dream.  How fun would this be?!
With summer being the prime season for weddings, I couldn't help but include Jessica N. Designs' gorgeous Vintage Cake Fork Set.  What a great gift!  And you can even have it personalized with the date of the big day.
Nautical-themed goodies are super trendy right now, and this is one trend that I just love to bits, especially when it comes to this fabulous Pleated Nautical Striped Messenger Bag from ikabags.  LOVE!
My sister- and brother-in-law just welcomed their first baby into the world on Wednesday, and I'm telling you, if it wasn't well into springtime in Texas, where they live, this ADORABLE Newborn Baby Cardinal Hat, from Mitzi Knitz, would be on its way to him right now.  Too cute!
Finally, I couldn't help but share these Daisy Mason Jar Lids from The Plaid Barn.  Gosh, I loved these cuties so much that eighteen of them arrived in my mailbox just last week ;).
Well, that about covers it, for this month, folks.  I hope you found something here to love, too.  Thanks so much for reading, and have a fantastic weekend!
