Paper Sweeties Sketch Inspiration #7

Tuesday, April 30, 2013

Hey, y'all!  We're back with a brand new Paper Sweeties sketch to start your month out right.  Check out how I was inspired.
I started this card by topping the plaid, patterned paper, which was stamped, in Jet Black ink, with the "Love you much" sentiment and dressed up with a trio of aqua, enamel dots, with a piece of denim, patterned paper; framing it with White cardstock; and machine stitching, with white-threaded, straight stitches, a double frame around the combined pieces' edges.
A strip of vellum, which I die cut with the scalloped edge, was then adhered between the connection of the two patterned papers and topped with a length of aqua ribbon, which was wrapped around the prepped piece and tied off, to the right of the prepped piece, with a length of hemp twine, laced through an orange button and tied in a bow.
After adhering the prepped piece to the Kraft, cardstock, card face, I die cut both an orange, patterned, paper, heart frame and its White cardstock backing; stamped Abigail and Jake, in Jet Black ink, on the cardstock die cut; colored them with colored pencils and mineral spirits; and dressed them with clothing prepared in the same way.  The patterned, paper frame was than adhered, over the images, with foam tape; before the entire thing was backed with a piece of cheesecloth for texture and adhered, in its respective location, with foam tape.
Now, here's this month's Sketch Inspiration Challenge #7 to get you started.
You have until the close of the month, on Friday, May 31, 2013, to link up your takes, over at that challenge link above, in order to be in the running to win a $20 gift certificate to the Paper Sweeties Shoppe.  So, get to it, y'all, and have a terrific day!

Weekend Snapshots

Monday, April 29, 2013

Good afternoon, y'all!  I hope you all had wonderful weekends!  Ours was busy from the get go and started with rainy weather and a chill in the air but ended on a more relaxing note with gorgeous sunshine and the warmth of spring.  But before I get to those pics, I wanted to share a few things that happened toward the close of last week.  Ezekiel's 5th grade curriculum arrived!  He seems to have fallen in love with history this year, or at least, that's what he is most excited about right now.
And I couldn't help but throw in this comparison between my stack and his.  It's the first time mine has been taller than his.  Gulp.  Help!
Last Thursday, we went to Mahaffie Farmstead for a Growing Up Victorian homeschool program.  They had two separate tracks, for the kiddos, based upon age.  When I called over there, they said that my cuties, being as they're nearly five and a half years apart, would be close together all morning, despite the fact that they were in the separate tracks, but I didn't see Ezekiel for most of the day.  Fortunately, my friend brought her hubby along, so he was able to go with Ezekiel and his daughter, while my friend and I stuck with the wee ones.  Anyway, we got to churn butter in the cellar, grind corn...
to feed the chickens...
and plant corn...
and little and big kids alike got to ride the stagecoach.  The weather was perfect, and it was so fun to get to connect with lots of other homeschool families from our area.
Then, on Saturday, we were off to the Kansas City Zoo for a sneak peek of what will be our new Helzberg Penguin Plaza.  Well, the line for that was crazy long, and I overheard folks talking about how the wait wasn't worth it.  So, we skipped it; enjoyed delicious, free, for members, Chris Cakes pancakes...
and explored bits of the zoo under the protection of our umbrellas.  I completely forgot that my hubby doesn't usually get to go with us, so it was uber fun to see his wide eyes taking it all in and hear his questions.  I was helping my big kiddo take pics with his camera, too.  So, I forgot to take very many of my own, but I did get a few.
And finally, Ezekiel wanted to thank Grandpa and Grandma for the books he got in the mail for no reason in particular other than they love him ;).  Thanks so much, guys!  What a fun surprise!
Oh!  I also couldn't help but throw in this pic of chocolate cupcakes with peanut butter frosting.  Mmmm!  These ones went to a family, in our church, who just had a new baby.  Then, because the remainder of this particular batch was nearly cleaned up by the rest of my family, I whipped up another batch, with cream cheese frosting, to take to some friends' house, for dinner, on Saturday night.  LOVE cupcakes ;)!
That about covers it, folks.  Thanks so much for checking in on us, and have a truly blessed, work week!  Hugs!

Friday Faves

Friday, April 26, 2013

TGIF!  If you can believe it, next Wednesday is the first day of May.  Where does the time go?!  But that means that it's time for the April edition of my Friday Faves, and it begins with Jillibean Soup's Irish Farm House 12x12 Collection Pack.  LOVE the vintage vibe, little word bubbles, and mail-themed bits and pieces!
These Clear Pop Mint Alphas, from Heidi Swapp, are literally EVERYWHERE in the papercrafting world, and I just love 'em to bits!  Not only is there simply not enough of the color mint in the world, but I adore their size and see-through quality.
Amy totally rocked Impress' Confetti Dots rubber stamp, in her Wordless Wednesday post, last week!  So much so, that I would absolutely love to add it to my stash.  Imagine the possibilities!
Lovin' these cute, little Camera Paper Clips...
and this playful, new Doodle Heart Grid Washi Tape, both from Freckled Fawn!
We are HUGE bird watchers at our house.  So, you can imagine my excitement, when I discovered this See-Through Window Birdhouse from An American Dream.  How fun would this be?!
With summer being the prime season for weddings, I couldn't help but include Jessica N. Designs' gorgeous Vintage Cake Fork Set.  What a great gift!  And you can even have it personalized with the date of the big day.
Nautical-themed goodies are super trendy right now, and this is one trend that I just love to bits, especially when it comes to this fabulous Pleated Nautical Striped Messenger Bag from ikabags.  LOVE!
My sister- and brother-in-law just welcomed their first baby into the world on Wednesday, and I'm telling you, if it wasn't well into springtime in Texas, where they live, this ADORABLE Newborn Baby Cardinal Hat, from Mitzi Knitz, would be on its way to him right now.  Too cute!
Finally, I couldn't help but share these Daisy Mason Jar Lids from The Plaid Barn.  Gosh, I loved these cuties so much that eighteen of them arrived in my mailbox just last week ;).
Well, that about covers it, for this month, folks.  I hope you found something here to love, too.  Thanks so much for reading, and have a fantastic weekend!

Three in One

Thursday, April 25, 2013

We've got an outing to Mahaffie Farmstead today, and the weather couldn't possibly be any more perfect.  So much to look forward to!  But before we're off and as anniversary season is quickly approaching, I wanted to stop in here to share a sweet, little number with you all.
I started this card by overlaying a piece of mint, floral, patterned paper on a White, cardstock, card base; stamping the "HAPPY anniversary" sentiment, in Jet Black ink, on a strip of vellum; laying it over the card face, just above horizontal center; and machine stitching, with white-threaded, straight, machine stitches, around its outside edges, anchoring the sentiment strip as I went.  I then dry embossed a piece of Oatmeal cardstock with the woodgrain design, tucked it under the vellum strip, and adhered it in the center of the card face.  A length of pink ribbon was then wrapped, around the card face, just right of vertical center and thread under the vellum strip; tied, in a bow, near the top edge of the card face; and embellished with a mint, fringed ribbon, tied in a bow, as well as a crystal button, laced with a hemp twine bow.
A floral, "together" flashcard was then adhered just under the embellished bow...
and dressed up with a stamped, in Jet Black ink, on White cardstock, cake, which was colored with colored pencils and mineral spirits; hand cut out; adhered, in its respective location, with foam tape; topped with a pink, paper blossom; and embellished, with Dazzling Details, throughout the rings of pearls.
Inspiration for this card came from the Tuesday Trigger: Pretty Little Petits Fours in the Moxie Fab World (LOVED that yummy, white, woodgrain background!)...
Pinspired's Challenge #8...
and Scrapping Everyday Miracles' April Card Sketch Challenge.
Thanks, as always, for stopping by!  Blessings!

TRR #51

Wednesday, April 24, 2013

Good morning, y'all!  Just popping in to share a pretty, little, birthday creation.  I seem to never have enough of these.  Enjoy!
I started this card by piecing together the soft blue crackle and bright blue, polka dot, patterned papers; trimming their center with a stamped, in Jet Black ink, on White cardstock, row of quilt prints, which I filled in with Bordering Blue ink; framing their combined edges with Bashful Blue cardstock; and machine stitching, with white-threaded, zig-zag stitches, around their edges and, with white-threaded, straight stitches, across the horizontal top and bottom of the stamped portion.  I then tucked a length of bright blue, gingham ribbon over its top edge, before adhering it, with foam tape, to the White, cardstock, card face.
A kraft tag, laced with both a sheer, white polka dot and soft green, crinkle ribbon, tied in knots, topped with a black button, laced with hemp twine, and embellished with a white, paper blossom...
prep the surface for my "CELEBRATE, It's Your Birthday, MAKE A WISH" sentiment, which fills in my vellum, ribbon die cut.  Both the sentiment and ribbon were stamped in Jet Black ink and backed with a die-cut, green, felt star, which was trimmed with white-threaded, straight, machine stitches.
A pearl, stick pin, boasting a "happy happy moments" pennant, was then tucked into the felt; and a handful of silver sequins, scattered about, complete the look.
Inspiration for this card came from The Ribbon Reel's Challenge #51: Feeling Blue.  Isn't this color palette perfectly scrumptious?!
Thanks so much for peeking in!  I'm off to finish dinner for a family, in our church, who just adopted a new baby.  I really should be making cards for these babies, too.  My stash is running low ;).  Anyway, have a wonderful Wednesday!  And thanks again and again!  Hugs!

Family Update

Tuesday, April 23, 2013

Well, hello there.  It's been awhile since I shared a little of what we've been up to as a family, so I thought that I'd do so today.  Ezekiel had his last KC Zoo homeschool program of this school year.  So, Adina and I met a couple of friends, bundled up tight, as it was snowing and super chilly, and enjoyed our morning.  Believe it or not, this was the best photo I could get of the group.  LOL!
We also discovered that one of our all-time favorite, chain restaurants, The Egg and I, which I was introduced to when I lived in Colorado, had finally moved our direction.  Well, we made a beeline there after church a couple of weeks back, and I've got to say that it was every bit as good as I remember it to have been.  Yum!
Ezekiel got second place with his Pinewood Derby car, or rather skateboard, at the Awana Grand Prix.  He was so proud :).
We were super busy last week with SAT tests, so we ended the week on a lighter note at CoCo Key Indoor Water Park.
They promote a homeschool day, at a third of the cost, four times a year; and believe it or not, we always run into someone we know.  Ezekiel found a friend he met at the said zoo program above, so it was difficult to get him to slow down for a pic; but I managed to snap this one, just as he came through the slide shoot.
And look who's K4 preschool curriculum arrived.  So exciting!  Gosh, she's growing up fast!  Sigh.
Oh!  And I just couldn't resist leaving you with this fun pic of my littlest.  She and her brother were dressing up for some show they were concocting, and she couldn't decide whether she wanted to be a shirtless pirate or a train conductor.  So, she went with both.  LOVE it ;)!
That's just a few of the highlights of the last couple of weeks.  But we've got a Growing Up Victorian homeschool program on Thursday, and we're hoping the weather turns from freezing temps and snow to warm and springlike for an outing to get a sneak peek of our zoo's new Penguin Plaza on Saturday.  Plus, Ezekiel is gearing up for another season of baseball.  And all that's on top of being overwhelmed with the news of the Boston Marathon bombings, school, cleaning, church activities, and the like.  Breathe.  Thanks so much for checking in on us!  Be blessed!
