Weekend Snapshots

Wednesday, August 14, 2013

Good morning, y'all!  Well, we started out the weekend a little rough.  Sometimes my biggest gets into a funk, and it takes more time than I'd like for him to crawl out of it.  So, my hubby took our littlest to a Build and Grow Clinic at Lowe's, while he worked on it.  She built Dusty from the new movie Planes and calls it her new favorite toy.
By then, Ezekiel was frustrated that he didn't get to go and beginning to iron the wrinkles out of his attitude.  So, off they went to play outside, while my hubby got some yard work done, and I got a little quiet time to create.  Gosh, they've found so many fun creatures in our yard lately, and they both get so excited.  Adina says they're the "cutest, most adorable" things she's ever seen.  LOVE!
We've also had a lot of rain.  So, by Saturday, all these luscious Romas needed picking.  I haven't been good about showing you our summer harvest this year, but we've also had a couple handfuls of radishes, lots of green and jalapeno peppers, and a number of cucumbers.  The squash is filling in nicely, and we're crossing our fingers for a good batch of carrots, too.
After church, on Sunday, we had to exchange a pair of jeans I had purchased online for Ezekiel, but they ended up being too small.  It's so strange, too, because he has the exact same pair in his closet already with plenty of room to grow.  Hmmm?  Anyway, we ended up finding another pair that fit him well, along with a couple pairs of $4.99 shorts for next summer, and I couldn't resist picking up a couple of cute headbands for Adina.  It's no fun being left out ;).  Oh!  And don't you just love those little sharks?!  Sometimes boy clothes are just too grown-up.  So, I simply couldn't pass those up.
Then, bright and early Monday morning, we were back to school.  Fortunately, everything has gone pretty smoothly to start out, and my kiddos are loving their new routines.
Ezekiel's even more thrilled that he has a boy teacher, for arithmetic, this year.  LOL!  But his science and history teacher is already his fave :).
Adina and I have spent a lot of time reviewing colors this week, like yellow and blue make green...
and everything in between.
Oh!  And I forgot to give you all a little update on Ezekiel's summer instrument class.  He had the opportunity to try out the trombone, trumpet, clarinet, flute, viola, violin, and cello.  He really loved the clarinet and viola.  So, we weighed his options.  The clarinet would mean that he'd be in band and have an afternoon practice.  The viola would mean he'd be in orchestra and have an EARLY morning practice.  He has a friend in band but doesn't yet know anyone in orchestra, not that that would be much of a problem.  He's very social.  Then, we had the instruments to think about purchasing.  The thought of a fifth grader taking care of over $100 worth of strings on an instrument that could quickly become toothpicks if dropped helped us lean more in the direction of a sturdy clarinet, which we found on craigslist, and he couldn't be any more thrilled with his choice.  Practice starts the end of the month.  Woohoo!
That just about covers the highlights.  I'll be back tomorrow to share this week's Sketches in Thyme's sketch, as well as to reveal my latest flashback for Color Combos Galore.  Until then, thanks so much for checking in on us!  Have a creative day!
