Morning, friends! With Thanksgiving right around the corner, I thought, this month, I'd share one of our all-time favorite, Thanksgiving stories with you all. It is written for children ages five to eight and filled to the brim with gorgeous, fall, watercolor illustrations that distinctly portray each character's personality.
A Turkey for Thanksgiving, written by Eve Bunting and illustrated by Diane de Groat, begins with Mrs. Moose setting her Thanksgiving table with a paper turkey right in the center. As she does so, she lets out a sigh and announces her wish for a real turkey. Mr. Moose is bound to make that wish come true and joined by all his woodland, dinner guests on the hunt for the perfect turkey. They finally find Turkey, who promptly attempts to fly away, at the edge of the riverbank. Unfortunately, Turkey's terrified getaway is short-lived, as he has gained too much weight to get himself off the ground. Mr. Moose has to push Turkey all the way but delivers him home to Mrs. Moose's delight. In a surprising turn of events, as Mrs. Moose is telling all their woodland friends where to sit, Turkey discovers that he is wanted AT her Thanksgiving table and not ON it.
I hope this book brings a little fun and laughter to your own Thanksgiving celebrations. Thanks for reading, and have a blessed weekend!
