The Studio Sketch Challenge

Sunday, November 24, 2013

It's time for The Studio's second challenge of the month, friends, and this time we've got a sketch to wet your creative appetites.  I took a few liberties with my take, as it is very uncommon for me to have photos that would likely be trimmed to the tiny size of the squares below, but I kept the grid design and threw in lots of snowflakes for the circular elements.  Check it out!
I started this page by piecing the photographs, as well as the "DECK the HALLS" chalkboard title, which inspired all the snowflakes mentioned above...
and the holly, journaling card, which I used to journal, While BJ strung the lights on the tree and Adina napped, Ezekiel and I stole away to see Rise of the Guardians.  We grabbed a pizza on the way home and trimmed the tree 'til our hearts were content, onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock and adhered it in the center of the sheet music, patterned paper.  The bottom left corner of the journaling card was embellished with a red, striped, chipboard frame, dressed up with a couple of pearls, as well as a chipboard, ornament advertisement; and the holly berries, on the card itself, received a touch of Crystal Effects for shine.
Our Christmas tree photo was overlaid with a "MERRY & BRIGHT" transparency, before I tucked a couple of snowflake transparencies under the bottom edges of the photo grid and machine stitched, with white-threaded, straight, machine stitches, around the grid's edges.
A couple more snowflake transparencies, anchored with buttons, laced with white string, as well as a duet of chipboard snowflakes and small handful of snowflake sequins, dress up the outer edges of the grid.
The bottom left corner was decked with two, die-cut, from Garden Green and Whisper White cardstocks, holly branches, which were laced together with a bit of black, chevron ribbon, tied in a bow.
The bottom center photo's top edge was used to hang a trio of die-cut from Whisper White cardstock, stamped in Riding Hood Red ink, and glittered stockings, which were adhered with foam tape.  A "TRIMMING THE TREE" 11.23.12, cardstock sticker, as well as a couple of phrase stickers and a chipboard button, laced with white string, complete the look.
And here's your November Sketch Challenge to get you off and running in the right direction.

such a great page Jinny. And your take on the sketch is perfect. Your children are so photogenic and look excited to decorate the tree. Love your mistletoe and all the other little goodies on the page. I'm a sucker for musical paper and tend to hoard it in my stash.
