Thursday, January 31, 2013

Note:  If you've come here looking for my Paper Sweeties Sketch Inspiration #4 post, please scroll down.

Welcome to Wplus9 Design's February/March Release!  So excited to be back, y'all!  It's just too long between months.  We've got five stamp sets and four dies, as well as White ink (Woohoo!), to taunt you with this month.  Today we're showing off Very Vintage Florals and its coordinating Very Vintage Florals die, as well as Chantilly Trim and a must-have, Scalloped Border die.  So, let's just get started.  Shall we?

{Photo Removed for Publication}

I started this card by die cutting the bottom edge of a piece of Kraft cardstock with our brand spankin' new Scalloped Border die.  Y'all, this baby's going to get an awful lot of use in my crafty space ;)!  I then stamped the bottom, lacy border...

and top, ruffled edge in White ink; trimmed the space between them with a strip of pink, decor, patterned paper; ink distressed the edges; framed the whole thing with Really Rust cardstock; and machine stitched, with white-threaded, zig-zag stitches, across the top edge of the patterned paper.

{Photo Removed for Publication}

I then wrapped a length of brown, gingham ribbon, around the prepped piece, over the bottom edge of the patterned paper; tied it, in a bow, near the right edge of the prepped piece; and embellished it with a crystal button, laced with a couple of hemp twine bows, before adhering the entire thing, with foam tape, to the Oatmeal, cardstock, card face.

The sentiment frame was stamped, in Crumb Cake ink, on an ink distressed, Oatmeal, cardstock, Label Layers 3 die cut; filled in with the stamped, in Chocolate Chip ink, "birthday WISHES" sentiment; and dressed up with stamped, in Daffodil Delight and Certainly Celery inks, on Barely Banana and Certainly Celery, cardstock die cuts, flowers and leaves.  Don't you just adore the detail in these images?!  Yum!  A piece of cheesecloth adds a tad more texture and completes the look.

That gets us started, y'all!  But don't forget to stop by the rest of the team members' blogs to see what they've cooked up, just for your viewing pleasure.  Also, help us welcome this month's amazingly talented Guest Designer, Christina Maclaren.  Please be sure to leave her lots of love.  Then, we'll all be back, tomorrow, at the same time and places, to show you a little more of what else Dawn has cooked up for us this month.  Thanks so much for peeking in!  Be blessed!

Paper Sweeties Sketch Inspiration #4

Are y'all ready for this month's Paper Sweeties challenge?  Well, the Design Team is back to share how Sketch Inspiration #4 inspired them, and we can't wait to see how it inspires you!  Here's my take.
I started this card by stamping a piece of ink distressed, Pool Party cardstock, in Pool Party ink, with the cloud images.  I then white embossed it with the snowflakes; framed it with a piece of White cardstock, as well as white-threaded, zig-zag, machine stitches; and adhered it to the Pink Pirouette, cardstock, card face.  The hearts, as well as the long and short pennants, were stamped, in Jet Black ink, on various, color-coordinating, patterned papers; hand cut out; and adhered, some flush to the card face and others with foam tape, in an arch, over the clouds and snowflakes.
The long pennant to the far left of the design was stamped, in Jet Black ink, with the "I {Heart} You" sentiment.
Die cut, from felt, and stitched together, with white-threaded, straight, machine stitches, hearts, as well mini buttons, laced with white string, form the full banner; and sheer, pink bows, embellished with a pink button, laced with a hemp twine bow, and white sticker blossom, backed with a hemp twine bow, respectively, complete the look.
Here's this month's sketch to get you started.  You have until the close of the month EST to get your takes linked up, over at the challenge link above, in order to be in the running to win two, Paper Sweeties, stamp sets.  Yea!  Then, the girls will have a brand new sketch, for you all, beginning March 1, 2013.
Thanks so much for peeking in, and have a fantastic Friday!

For the Love of Books

Hey, y'all!  Just sneaking in a For the Love of Books post, before all the Wplus9 Design release activity begins.  I had the hardest time choosing a book to share, with you all, this month.  Do I go with a winter-themed one?  Valentine's Day is just around the corner.  What about that funny one I adore from one of my favorite authors or that one every family should own?  There are just so many AMAZING children's books to share!  Sometimes it's hard to know where to begin, but with my birthday having just passed, I settled on one we found, on the New Books shelf, at our local library, with just such a theme.  It is written for children ages three and up.
Happy Birthday, Mrs. Millie!, written by Judy Cox and illustrated by Joe Mathieu, details the preparations Mrs. Millie's students undergo to ready their classroom for a surprise bird-day party for their teacher.  From colorful baboons and foxes tied up with gibbons to chocolate cubcakes and apple moose, the celebration begins the moment Mrs. Millie arrives and carries through to blowing out the camel and making a fish to Musical Bears and gifts, for all the children, from their creature.  It is packed to the brim with word play and rhymes that are sure to make you laugh out loud.

Mrs. Millie just came on my radar, but evidently she's been around since 2005 with Don't Be Silly, Mrs. Millie!, Mrs. Millie Goes to Philly!, and Pick a Pumpkin, Mrs. Millie!  We've recently reserved them all at our library.

Thanks so much for taking the time to read!  And please be sure to let me know what you think of Mrs. Millie, whether you've already been introduced or are sure to pick her up today.  Be blessed!

CMS #26

Tuesday, January 29, 2013

Good morning!  It's a dark and rainy one in our neck of the woods.  We've had unseasonably warm temperatures over the last couple of days, but they are now quickly dropping.  Tomorrow it's supposed to be snowing and in the thirties again.  Sigh.  We never know what we're going to get, but I am happy for the moisture.  We need it desperately!  Anyway, I always have the hardest time with guy cards but am super pleased with how this one turned out and love how the school elements highlight the recipient's teaching profession.  Enjoy!
I started this card by overlaying the gray, stripe, patterned paper with a cloud transparency; piecing it together with the blue polka dot and soft green, polka dot, patterned papers; adhering them to the Kraft, cardstock, card face; and securing them with moss-colored, straight and zig-zag, machine stitches.
The top right corner was then stamped, in Basic Gray ink, with the "CLASS Schedule" image, before the entire thing was wrapped, three times, with hemp twine, which was tied, in a double bow, just right of horizontal center.
The subject card was stamped, in Night of Navy ink, on an ink distressed, Oatmeal, cardstock, rounded rectangle die cut; flipped sideways; and secured, to the card face, just below the hemp twine wrap, with both a paper clip and a couple of staples.  It was then topped with a "TAKE NOTE:" tag, which was ink distressed and stamped, in Mellow Moss ink, with the "CELEBRATE" sentiment...
as well as a couple of die cut, from white felt, stars, which were sealed together with navy-threaded, straight, machine stitches and topped with a white button, laced with blue Baker's Twine.  A handful of pearls and trio of blue gemstones complete the look.
Color inspiration for this card came from Color Me Scrappy's Challenge #26.  I know they're usually a scrap challenge blog.  With preparations for this week's upcoming, Wplus9 Design release, however, I knew that I wouldn't have time to take it on as a layout; and it was just too delicious to pass up, especially because I saw the perfect color palette for a guy card in it, and my brother-in-law had a birthday yesterday.  Woohoo!  Thanks, ladies!
And just because I'm so proud of her, guess who's buzzing around on her brother's old bike?  And boy, does she love it!
Thanks so much for stopping by, and have a terrific Tuesday!  Oh!  And please don't forget that you have until the close of today CST to leave me a comment, at the link below or in the right hand side bar, for your chance to win all the fabulous goodies in my Birthday Giveaway.  I'll be back tomorrow with a winner.  Good luck!

Weekend Snapshots

Monday, January 28, 2013

Happy Monday, y'all!  I trust that your weekends were full of excitement and rest.  Before I get to ours, I wanted to share these beautiful roses my hubby got me, for my birthday, last week.  There is one for every birthday I've celebrated thus far.  I dare you to count them ;).
And my big kiddo wanted to show you all these salt crystals he's been growing.
He had a basketball game on Saturday morning.  They stomached another loss, but it wasn't quite the blowout they were delivered last week.  I'm just so glad that he's still loving it and meeting new people in the process.  Matter of fact, his coach and his coach's son invited him to see and meet many of the Harlem Globetrotters, at the Sprint Center, on Saturday night, which he just can't stop talking about ;).

Since it was a late night, he also stayed over at their house.  So, we had lots of one-on-one time with this cutie, and she was a pure joy!
I had to share a picture of this fabulous, Sweet Potato and Zucchini Frittata, from my Moosewood Restaurant New Classics cookbook, too.  It was simply a way to use up some leftover veggies, so they wouldn't spoil; but gracious me, it was delicious!
I also whipped up a batch of Chunky Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Cookies yesterday, for my hubby, who was craving such.  I kinda love him ;).
And finally, just because I think she's ADORABLE, here's another pic of our cutie-pie hamster, Katie.  I think she's probably the most photographed hamster EVER.  LOL!
Thanks so much for checking in on us, and have a blessed, work week!  Hugs!

Friday Faves

Friday, January 25, 2013

Well, hello there.  It's Friday, y'all!  And because it's the last Friday of the month (Can you believe it?!  Where does time go?), it's time for my Friday Faves.  I've seen so many fabulous, new goodies with Winter CHA having just wrapped up, but I've narrowed things down to just a few that are available right now, beginning with one of My Mind's Eye's newest collections, Collectable: Memorable.  I adore all the sweet, girly prints...
and check out these fabulous Journaling Cards!  Those days of the week pennants are beyond perfect, and I'm so in love with this color palette!  Delish!
I also love the "HELLO!  MY NAME IS" stamp in the Memorable Hello Stamps set!  Just think of all the possibilities.
And the coordinating Enamel Dots are an absolute must-have!  I just can't get enough of these babies!
Matter of fact, I love that Noel Mignon's newest Soda Shoppe Kit boasts another palette of just such.  I've also got my eye on that darling owl, and the colors are just bright and cherry enough to get us looking forward to spring in the deepest depths of winter's chill.  Plus, I'm spying a set of tags from my newest crush, Elle's Studio.
Speaking of, her Daily Details stamp set has so many essential, scrapbooking phrases, that it's just killing me there aren't any in stock.  Sigh.
I recently received one of Studio Calico's Wood Veneer Abroad Cameras in a scrappy prize package, and y'all, one just wasn't enough!  I love these little guys to bits!
Plus, their Yearbook Paper Clips are just one of the cutest things EVER...
and their sequins... Swoon!  These Peachy Peach ones have especially caught my eye.
I've wanted a Silhouette Cameo, like many of you, for quite awhile now.  Well, my hubby got me one for my birthday.  I was absolutely thrilled!  But I still can't help but think of all the things it could buy.  Just as an example, my big kiddo needs braces, and it would be half our down payment!  I can't seem to convince my hubby to return it, and I don't want to spoil an uber thoughtful gift; but well, tell me I'm crazy.  I'm not even sure if I can figure out all those buttons and gizmos.  It's just so extravagant and intimidating!
The playfulness of this Everyday Bag, from Marbled, has me all over it...
but since I tend to drag my camera with me just about everywhere I go, this trendy Unique Camera Bag/Purse, from Darby Mack, might be more practical.
Finally, I recently happened upon Maybelline's line of Baby Lips tinted moisturizing lip balms and just couldn't love them any more!
I hope that, this month, I've found something for you to love, too!  Thanks so much for stopping by, and have a fantastic weekend!

ScrapFIT Workout #84

Thursday, January 24, 2013

We're nearly back to the weekend, y'all!  I'm not sure why that excites me so, except that we've all been feeling a little under the weather in some way and could use a bit more time to just do nothing.  Plus, a reprieve from our daily studies and activities and my hubby being around to help with the daily grind usually permits me a little, extra time to just be myself, particularly with my creating.  So, I'm crossing my fingers that's exactly what this weekend will bring ;).  Speaking of, I just love the soft beauty of the creation I have, to share with you all, today.  Enjoy!

{Photo Removed for Publication}

I started this card by trimming the left edge of a piece of vintage, book-print, patterned paper with a strip of aqua, distressed, patterned paper, as well as a die cut strip of Oatmeal cardstock and anchoring them all, with white-threaded, zig-zag, machine stitches, to the Kraft, cardstock, card face.  I then trimmed the space between the original paper and the die cut cardstock with a length of kraft lace, and later, topped it with a length of Crumb Cake, taffeta ribbon, tied, in a bow, near the top edge of the card face and embellished with a lone pearl.

{Photo Removed for Publication}

But before that ribbon was added, I secured a strip of aqua, floral, glitter paper, over a bit of cheesecloth and just below horizontal center, with brown-threaded, zig-zag, machine stitches.

{Photo Removed for Publication}

Finally, the sentiment panel was created by stamping the frame itself, in Crumb Cake ink, on an ink distressed, Oatmeal, cardstock die cut; filling it in with the stamped, in Pool Party ink, "LOVE", sentiment frame, which also received a kiss of glitter; and finishing with the stamped, in Chocolate Chip ink, "Today, Tomorrow, Forever" sentiment.  It was then adhered, with foam tape, just to the bottom right of the embellished bow.

{Photo Removed for Publication}

Color inspiration for this card came from ScrapFIT's Workout #84.
Thanks for taking a little bit of time out of your busy schedules to humor me with a visit!  I hear my littlest waking and calling for me.  So, we're off to another day.  Hope yours is blessed!  Hugs!

MFW: Use 10 Embellishments Challenge

Wednesday, January 23, 2013

Thanks again for all your sweet birthday wishes this week!  You all sure know how to make a girl blush ;).  LOVE it!  And just because you all deserve it, here's a little thanks for all you do for me.  Love ya!

I started this card by die-cutting the trio of clouds from a piece of ink distressed, Oatmeal cardstock and trimming its bottom edge with six strips of crape paper, layered one on top of the other and secured, down their horizontal centers, with white-threaded, zig-zag, machine stitches, tied off, to the front of the card face, at either end.  I then cut them, vertically, from their horizontal ends to the inside stitching, every little bit.  No measuring here, folks.  I just snipped away.
I then tucked the stamped, in Lucky Limeade and Riding Hood Red inks, flowers into the top edge of the crape paper and dressed up their centers with lots of clear gemstones.
The negative cloud images were then backed with various, turquoise, patterned papers, before the entire thing was framed with Ruby Red cardstock and adhered to the Kraft, cardstock, card face.  The "Thanks" sentiment was stamped, in Jet Black ink, on a White, cardstock, banner die cut; adhered, in its respective location, hanging off the right edge of the card face; and anchored, at its left end, with a red, dimensional butterfly, trailing both hemp twine and Baker's Twine bows and boasting more of those clear gemstones, qualifying this creation for the Use 10 Embellishments Challenge in the Moxie Fab World.
Thanks so much for peeking in, and have a super, blessed Wednesday, y'all!
