Guest Designing with The Shabby Tea Room

Sunday, March 30, 2014

Hello again, y'all!  I'm just thrilled to be here today guest designing with the fabulously talented girls over in The Shabby Tea Room!  Eeek!
Here's how I was inspired.
I started this card by white embossing the top edge of a piece of green, polka dot, patterned paper with the lace trim and fitting it into the bottom of a piece of pink, stripe, patterned paper, before anchoring them both, to the Oatmeal, cardstock, card face, with white-threaded, zig-zag, machine stitches.  I then topped the lace edge with a length of white, seam binding ribbon, tied, in a double bow, near the left edge of the card face and embellished with a pink, enamel dot.
I then rounded the corners of a floral, "Faith" flashcard; stamped its top left corner, in Jet Black ink, with the "Trust that it's going to be okay." sentiment...
machine stitched, with white-threaded, messy stitches, a vellum, butterfly die cut, which I had dry embossed with polka dots, near its right edge; and adhered it, with foam tape, in the top center of the card face, just to the left of the embellished bow.
The entire look was then grounded with a bunch of button blossoms, stitched with white threaded, as well as a couple of dimensional, glitter, flower stickers, to complete the look.
And here's your Week #212: Pretty in Pink inspiration photo to get you started.  They're asking that you use white/cream, pink, and green, as well as lace/ribbon and flowers, on your project.
Before I run, I want to send out a HUGE thank you to Debbie and her team for having me this week!  I always love playing along with their gorgeous challenges, and I hope that you all will stop by and do the same.  You can get all the challenge details at the link above.  Thanks so much for peeking in, and have a wonderful, work week!

The Studio Sketch Challenge

Morning, y'all!  Just popping in to share my take on this month's sketch challenge from The Studio.  Enjoy!
I started this layout by smudging Bubblegum Glimmer Mist onto the Whisper White, cardstock, base page and stamping lots of coordinating, floral images, in Pool Party, Coastal Cabana, and Rose Red inks, in a diagonal, just to the left of where my photo would lie.  I then stacked a number of color-coordinating, patterned, paper bits on top of a bit of cheesecloth; anchored them with gold-threaded, straight and zig-zag, machine stitches; and topped them with my photo, which was matted with more Whisper White cardstock.  I then tucked a white envelope under the photo's right side and a "Date captured" March 2012 tag under its top edge, before pinning the top right corner with a "PERFECT", cardstock sticker.
The top left corner of the photo was overlaid with a scalloped, gold label, topped with a white embossed, on vellum, and hand-cut butterfly, as well as a hand-cut, from patterned paper, and glittered arrow.
The whole display was then sprinkled with gold, flower sequins and grounded with the "SPRING has Sprung!" title, which was created from chipboard Thickers, rubon letters, and a Cameo-cut, from Rose Red cardstock, "Sprung!".
But I didn't stop there.  I spread those pics of my garden, bursting with springtime goodness, into a two-pager.
Let's get a look at the right side.
This side has lots more of the mist smudging and floral stamping, as well as those sweet, little, gold, flower sequins.  And above and below the photo grid you'll find more cheesecloth on top of those fabulous, patterned papers, anchored with yummy stitching.  I then framed my crocus photo with a kraft Polaroid, dressed up with another hand-cut, from patterned paper, and glittered arrow and embossed, vellum butterfly, as well as a "DELIGHTFUL", cardstock sticker.
The top row of photos holds another glittered arrow...
and is dressed up with a "HAPPINESS", dimensional, banner sticker, trimmed with a larger, embossed, vellum butterfly to complete the look.
Further inspiration for this layout came from Kreative Koncepts' Colour Challenge #23.
And here's this month's sketch, as inspired by Cari's Year in Review Challenge layout, to get you off and running in the right direction.

Friday Faves

Friday, March 28, 2014

Welcome to the March edition of my Friday Faves, friends!  I've had my eye on a trio of collections this month, beginning with Carta Bella's Baby Mine Boy Collection Kit.  For obvious reasons, this collection is a must-have for me.  I'm even liking it more than the baby boy kit I featured last month for its vintage appeal and darling, storybook drawings.
Simple Stories is without a doubt my latest crush, and this month, I'm totally digging their A Charmed Life Collection Kit.  LOVE that it would be perfect for scrapping pics of any one of my kiddos with its more "boy" palette and sweet, girly prints!
I'm also totally in awe of their Homespun Collection Kit.  From its bits and pieces and plethora of journaling cards to its photo overlays and family-centered phrases, it was simply made for me.
I got these uber trendy, vintage Chalkboard Flatbacks in my March JBS Mercantile Papercrafting Kit and can't wait to put them to good use.
Jenni's Cloud Bubbles, too, are the perfect addition to her new, wood veneer line.  LOVE!
Kaden's 3-month pics are just over a month away, and I'm planning on having a photo of all three of my kiddos taken at the same time.  While I know what I'd like for my other two to wear, I've only yet purchased Kaden's outfit but think these Made-to-Order Baby Booties, from A Simple Bee, in white, would not only complete the ensemble, but also keep his toes toasty warm throughout the season.
And finally, I couldn't resist sharing this adorable Bunny Ring from Apple Latte.  My sweet girl would love it to bits!  But if a bunny isn't really your cup of tea, the shop owner has everything from dolphins and dinosaurs to monkeys and mice.  So fun!
That rounds things up for this month, folks.  I'm off to nurse my baby bear and make pizza for family movie night.  Thanks so much for looking, and may your weekends be full of fun!  Hugs!

Family Update

Thursday, March 27, 2014

Well, hello there, strangers.  I'm so sorry that it's been so long since I've posted here.  I so didn't mean to neglect my little corner of the web on top of being such a terrible blog friend.  Please forgive me.  It's just the season of my life right now, and sadly, I cannot keep up with everything.  Plus, my big kiddo has been struggling with his school responsibilities and just growing up in general.  So, getting him through the tough spots has been taking up what little extra time I do have.  Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of pics to share of him today, either.  Nobody wants to see a ten-year-old acting like a two-year-old.  But we've got high hopes that this, too, shall pass, and he'll soon be back to showing us his beautiful smile.  In the meantime, try this one on for size...
or maybe this one.
Ezekiel had another homeschool program at the KC Zoo.  So, earlier this month, my mom joined Adina, Kaden, and I...
to explore some of our favorite zoo spots, beginning with a ride on the carousel...
and moving on to a couple beloved friends.
It was Kaden's first trip, but he could've cared less.  He just snoozed the day away.
We've also been enjoying the fabulous, springtime weather.
My hubby took our sweet girl to the trout stocking, at Shawnee Mission Lake, a couple of weekends back.  They do this three times a year.  So, this isn't her first rodeo, but it is the first time she's ever won herself a Zebco fishing pole.  It's a little too big and super fancy for a five-year-old.  So, on Sunday, after church, we took her to Bass Pro Shops to pick out one a little more her size, since the ones Ezekiel grew up with had long ago been broken.  They were also having lots of activities, including a catch-and-release pond, for kids.  So, it was a win/win stop.
Some of the ladies from our church brought us a few meals to help out with things being so busy since the birth of our littlest guy, too.  Such a blessing!  And I couldn't help but take a pic of these shamrock, sugar cookies one woman purchased from Connie's Cookies.  Mmmmm!
Oh!  And check out my cuties all dressed up for St. Patty's Day!
I've also been trying to sneak in a few extra naps with this guy.
He's getting so big!  I don't like it one bit!  Time goes by so fast, and I so badly want it to slow down.  I know you all will understand if my posts here become fewer and farther between for a bit, while I sit and just hold my babies.
Thanks so much for checking in on us!  I have so much catching up to do with you all.  Been thinking of you tons and tons!  I'll pop back in sometime tomorrow with this month's Friday Faves, and believe it or not, I have whipped up a couple of creative projects to share before the month is over.  So, hang tight!  I'm not going anywhere ;).  Big hugs!

The Studio "M" Challenge

Sunday, March 16, 2014

Happy Sunday, y'all!  I'm here today to share a brand new challenge from The Studio.  With having a newborn in our house, I haven't had a lot of time to get creative lately, but I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed getting into my craft room, to make this page, last week.  There's such a sense of satisfaction that comes with a project staying finished, unlike laundry, dishes, cleaning, cooking, etc.  Anyhow, this week, at The Studio, we want you to be inspired by the letter M.  As soon as this challenge posted, I knew that I wanted to use it to support pictures of yummy food; and these cute pics of my baby girl, helping to decorate Valentine cookies, just happened to be lying on my desk.  So, they quickly became the subject of my page.  Enjoy!
I started this layout by smudging Patina Glimmer Mist onto the aqua, base page.  I then stamped it, in White and London Fog inks, with the paint splatters, as well as, in Real Red ink, with the grid design and little hearts.
My patterned papers, three of which were hand-cut into the shape of pennants, were then anchored, in their present positions, with gray-threaded, straight, machine stitches.  The thread ends were left loose to the front of the page for texture, and a few ends were even tied in little bows.  A couple lengths of gray, text Washi Tape were tucked under the edges of the pink, heart, patterned paper, before matting my photos with white cardstock and adhering them, haphazardly, in a column, just left of vertical center.  The top photo also had a "PRECIOUS", word bit stapled in its top left corner.
A number of hearts were then cut, from both patterned papers and vellum, in a variety of ways, including the use of metal dies, my Cameo, and a template, and adhered to either side of the photo column.  The largest, pink, polka dot, patterned, paper heart was also backed with a simple, paper doily and anchored with more gray-threaded, straight, machine stitches, tied off, in the top center of the heart, with a bow.  I then adhered a kraft, polka dot envelope over the bottom left edge of that largest heart and used it to ground my "Mmmmm GOOD!" title, which was created from Cameo-cut, from a teal cardstock, and glittered letters, as well as glitter, foam Thickers, and grounded with a bit of flair.
"YOU ARE SO LOVED", cardstock sticker...
"Truly Happy" word bit, which was anchored with a couple more staples, and a bunch of wood veneer, as well as silver rubon, hearts complete the look.
Further inspiration for this page came from Stuck?!'s March 1st Sketch Challenge.
Please be sure to stop by the challenge link above to get all your challenge details, as well as to be completely inspired by the rest of this talented team.  Thanks so much for stopping by!  Have a blessed rest of your weekends, friends!
