The Studio Sketch Challenge

Sunday, May 11, 2014

Happy Sunday, friends, and a big happy Mother's Day to all you moms!  I'm just popping in to share our latest challenge over at The Studio.  It's a sketch based upon my take on our Numbers Challenge from last month.  Seeing as it's Mother's Day here in the U.S., I thought it only fitting to scrap a couple of pics from just one year ago today.  And although the line looks daunting in the pics, it was literally the quickest we'd ever gotten in and out of this particular restaurant, which seems to consistently have terrible service.  We only put up with it on occasion, because the food is so good.  Anyway, enjoy!
I started this layout by stamping the "You are my sunshine", patterned, paper, base page, in both Melon Mambo and Jet Black inks, with the doilies and ink splats.  Don't you just adore that base paper?  Gosh, I didn't want to cover up an ounce of it.  Yum!  I then applied a little modeling paste, through a chevron stencil, here and there.  Once they were dry, I rubbed over them with white pastels just to make them less opaque.  This same look can be achieved by simply applying the modeling paste thicker, but it takes lots longer to dry and adds bulk to your page.  I also gold embossed two rows of hearts.  A couple of patterned papers were then secured, on the same vertical planes as the chevrons and embossed bits, with black-threaded, straight, machine stitches and topped with a length of black, floral Washi Tape.  My photos were matted with Whisper White cardstock, adhered haphazardly, and grounded with a "LOVE this life" title which was cut with my Cameo from gold and Whisper White cardstocks, the latter of which was also topped with a touch of glitter. A couple "PERFECTLY IMPERFECT", cardstock, phrase bits seemed to fit so well here.
The main photo was flanked by a "Noted:" 2013 Mother's Day tag...
and collection of hand-cut, from patterned paper, blossoms, as well as a bit of yellow flair and "location:" Olive Garden, Olathe, KS, cardstock sticker.
My top photo was wrapped, three times, with a length of white string, tied in a bow and used to ground the "again & again", cardstock, sticker pennant, and topped with a "Happiness found", circle tag.
Finally, I used a portion of a "These are the details", journaling circle to write, So glad that line was only b/c they hadn't yet opened the doors.  Such a yummy way to celebrate the day, and embellished it with another hand-cut, from patterned paper, bloom, as well as a "A DAY WELL SPENT...", cardstock sticker.  A bursting handful of pink, enamel dots complete the look.
Further inspiration for this page came from Color Me Scrappy's Color Scheme and Word Challenge (N= nine hand-cut blooms, E=embossing and/or enamel dots, W=Washi Tape and/or watercolor).
And here's your sketch, which I rotated 90 degrees to the left to better accommodate my horizontal photos, to get you off and running in the right direction.
Please be sure to stop by the link above to get all your challenge details, as well as to see how the rest of the team has interpreted the sketch.  Thanks so much for stopping by, and may your work weeks be extra blessed!  So excited that this is our last week of school!  Woohoo!

Happy Mother's Day Jinny. Love the colours on your page. I haven't been to the Olive Garden in years and there are none around where I live now. The handcut flowers look really nice.
