Stuck?! August 15th Sketch

Friday, August 15, 2014

Hi, friends!  I'm so excited to finally be here sharing a little something creative!  I've got so many fun ideas floating around in my little head but am struggling to find the time to creatively release them all.  So, I'm relishing even more in the moments that I do get to steal away to my special space to create.  Without further adieu, I've got my take on Stuck?! Sketches' current challenge to share, with you all, today.  Here goes.
I started this layout by smudging Candy Apple Glimmer Mist onto the kraft, embossed, polka dot, base pages.  I then applied raw modeling paste, through a star stencil, to my background and stamped it, in Jet Black ink, with the grid design and, in Night of Navy ink, with the ink splotches, before splattering gold Color Shine throughout.  A bit of red, polka dot vellum, too, spans both pages, along with a variety of color-coordinating, patterned, paper strips, which were anchored with white-threaded, straight, machine stitches; bits of red, stripe Washi Tape; and a large, white doily.  In addition, all of my photos were matted with Whisper White cardstock.  That sets the stage.  Now, let's get a closer look at the left side first.
A Cameo-cut, from Night of Navy cardstock, "Independence Day" title tops the photos...
and two, stamped, in Night of Navy ink, on White cardstock, banners, which were also hand cut out, ink distressed, and topped with gold stars, ground them.
The top left photo was wrapped with a length of Baker's Twine, tied in a bow, and further embellished with a red, polka dot, dimensional butterfly and gold, "celebrate" and "YOU MAKE ME SMILE" phrase bits.
A "Place" home sticker banner...
turns our attention to the right side of the page.
Another stamped banner, prepared in the same way as above, along with not one...
but two dimensional butterflies, top the design...
and a simple, red, Wed. 2013 label dresses up one of the photos...
while a trio of gold, phrase bits flanks another.
I then stamped the jar, in Pistachio Pudding ink, on White cardstock; hand cut it out; wrapped it with a length of Baker's Twine, tied in a bow; and filled it in with smudges of chalk pastels, highlighted with glitter, to simulate fireflies.  A bit of "HELLO" flair and red, chevron envelope, stuffed with a hand-cut, White, cardstock tag for journaling, complete the look.
My journaling reads, We spent most of our day running errands & getting ready for Ezekiel's birthday party on the 5th but stopped everything for a yummy dinner of chicken & veggie shish kabobs, homemade dinner rolls, garden fresh salad, & patriotic Jell-O desserts.  Then, Ezekiel entertained us with a barrage of colored smoke & catching fireflies, before Adina joined in with poppers & sparklers.  I just love to see them both enjoying the holiday.
Here's your August 15th Sketch to get you started.  Obviously, I stretched it a bit; but I just couldn't help seeing an additional, reversed page of those staggered photos.
Our sponsors for this challenge, with a $20 gift certificate and kit of the month respectively, are...
