Stuck?! November 1st Sketch

Saturday, November 1, 2014

Happy November, y'all!  I'm here, on this chilly, fall morning, as we rise and prepare for a fun day at the zoo, to share my take on Stuck Sketches' first monthly challenge.  Being as today is my baby girl's sixth birthday, I thought it only fitting to create a page from one of her birthdays, and photos from her first seemed to fit Laura's design perfectly.  Here goes.
I started this page by smudging Patina and Chalk Glimmer Mists onto the distressed, suede, base page; inking it, in Broken China and Tattered Rose Distress Inks, through quilt star and heart stencils; and machine stitching a white-threaded, messy, machine-stitch circle near the bottom left corner.  I then secured a couple of color-coordinating, patterned, paper strips, distressed with a hint of Titanium White, acrylic paint, across the top edge of the page itself and anchored them with white-threaded, straight, machine stitches.  One of those same patterned papers was then hand-cut into a banner and paired with another color-coordinating, patterned strip, cut in the same way, as well as a rose tag, laced with white string, before the strips were distressed with more acrylic paint and layered in behind a row of photos which were matted with Whisper White cardstock.
The photos were then stacked on top of all the inking and stitching, as well as a couple of saffron, cardstock, sticker blooms; polka dot envelope; rose, November 1, '09, label; and trio of color-coordinating patterned papers, all anchored with more white-threaded, straight, as well as zig-zag, machine stitches.
The title was created from a stamped, in second-generation, Cajun Craze ink, "BIRTHDAY" and chipboard number/letters which were painted with Titanium White, acrylic paint; distressed with Tea Dye, Antique Linen, and Pumice Stone Distress Inks; and glittered.
Another cardstock-matted photo was adhered near the top of the design and tied to the main grouping, literally, with stamped, in second-generation, Island Indigo, More Mustard, and Cajun Craze inks, on White, cardstock die cuts, balloons, secured with white string, which was, in turn, wrapped around the "t" in the title and tied in a bow.
A little journaling, which reads, Even though we were planning a party @ G-pa & G-ma's, I couldn't let the real day pass without a pre-celebration treat.  I love you, baby girl!...
in addition to a bunch of Titanium White, acrylic paint spots and clear sequins; trio of wood veneer buttons, laced with white string; and one last saffron, sticker bloom, embellished with a crystal button, laced with white string, complete the look.
Our sponsors for this sketch, with two pieces of chipboard and a paper stack of the winner's choice, are...
and here is your November 1st Sketch to get you started.
We're also having a Guest Design Team Call throughout the months of November and December.  All you have to do to enter is play along and add "GDT" to the title of your entry.  Laura is offering four spots, one for each of our January and February challenges.  Yay!  Thanks so much for stopping by!  Please be sure to stop by the challenge link above to get all your challenge details, as well as to view all the fabulous pages the rest of Design Team has created.  Have a terrific Saturday!
