The Studio Reflections Challenge

Sunday, January 4, 2015

Morning, y'all!  I'm absolutely thrilled to get to be continuing on with The Studio into 2015!  For our first challenge of the year, we want you to look back at 2014.  What was the best thing that happened?  What did you learn?  Maybe you would like to do a month by month review.  It's up to you, and I've got to say that I just love the freedom Anna has given us with this challenge, especially because, while many wonderful things have happened in my life in 2014, there have been a number of challenges that have really gotten me down going into 2015.  Ultimately, the best part of 2014, hands-down, was the birth of our little bear.  He entered the world a month early and had a number of struggles right off the bat, but he pushed through, is now thriving, and has already been such a blessing to us all in so many ways.
I started this page by smudging Faded Jeans Distress Ink, through a star stencil, onto the gray, aspen, patterned, paper, base page.  Later, those stars were also glittered.  I then stamped it, in Pumice Stone Distress Ink, with the dictionary text and layered a handful of patterned paper bits, including a navy, corrugated strip and many of which were anchored with navy-threaded, straight, machine stitches, near the bottom right corner of my design.  Those papers were then topped with my photos which were matted with Whisper White cardstock.  A number of large and small, vellum, snowflake die cuts were tucked in amidst the layers, as well as a bit of striped Washi; soft blue tag, laced with white string...
and a black, striped, chipboard frame.  A "fresh start" sticker...
as well as a stamped, in Jet Black ink, "I LOVE YOU" phrase and "photographed on FEB 03 2014" date, caps the top photo.
I used a "PERFECTION" die cut as my title and topped it with a stamped, in Jet Black ink, on a bit of hand-cut vellum, which was wrapped with a length of white string, tied in a bow, "pretty MUCH PERFECT" phrase.  A "#littleman" flair button and stamped, in Jet Black ink, on White cardstock, colored with pencils and mineral spirits, and hand-cut boat round out the bulk of the design.
A trio of patterned papers, hand-cut in the form of banners and anchored with navy-threaded, straight and zig-zag, machine stitches, draw attention to the final details, which include a couple of phrase stickers; another vellum, snowflake die cut; and a wood veneer heart.  A sprinkling of Navy Color Shine, Pure Black acrylic paint, and pearl sequins complete the look.
Further inspiration for this page came from Sketchabilities' Sketch #130...
and Let's Capture Our Memories' January Color Spot.
Be sure to stop by the challenge link above to see what the rest of the team has whipped up, as well as to get all of your challenge details.  Thanks for visiting, and have a fantastic week, folks!
