Stuck?! May 1st Sketch

Friday, May 1, 2015

Can you believe it's May already?!  Summer is just around the corner, and we can already feel the excitement brewing.  SAT's are out of the way, and we will have completed our curriculum in just over a week.  Ezekiel's spring band concert is a week away.  The flowers are blooming, and new plants have been put in my gardens.  The temperatures are warming up, and my kiddos keep begging to go barefoot.  Baseball season is well underway.  We're making vacation plans, and my big boys are gearing up for a short-term mission trip.  Our city pool will be open in just a few short weeks.  Eeek!  I'm so ready for summer!  Okay, so I got a little off track there.  LOL!  A new month means a new sketch, from Stuck?! Sketches, to get your creative juices flowing.  Believe it or not, I didn't twist or turn or manipulate this one in any way.  Here's how I was inspired.
I started this page by smudging both Wild Wasabi and Pistachio Pudding inks, through a fern stencil, onto the target, patterned, paper, base page.  I then stamped the background, in Barely Banana, Pool Party, and Pretty in Pink inks, with a random flow of circles from the top left to bottom right.  A few got covered up more than I had intended.  So, of course, more were added once everything was complete.  I then secured a number of color-coordinating, patterned, paper pieces, haphazardly, near horizontal center, with gold-threaded, straight, machine stitches, before topping them with my photos, which were matted with Whisper White cardstock.  A couple lengths of a pink, polka dot, Washi Tape set the stage for my "silly GIRL, It'll be OWLRIGHT!" title, which was created from a black, stripe, transparent die cut, secured with a couple of simple staples; white Remarks alphas, outlined in black ink; and stamped, in Jet Black ink, on a vellum, banner die cut, "It'll be OWLRIGHT!"  It was then flanked with a gold foil arrow and sweet, little, bird, flair button.
The secondary cluster centers around a stamped, in Jet Black ink, on White cardstock, owl, which I colored in with pencils, hand cut out, and finished with a little Crystal Effects, just to give his eyes a bit of shine.  He is peeking up out of a gold foil leaf and Prima bloom.  The latter had a purple bead in its center, but it just wasn't working or me.  So, I replaced it with a pink button, laced with white string.  A "HAPPINESS" sticker and "OCTOBER 2014" flair button...
turn our attention to the journaling in the bottom left corner, which reads, You were so excited to climb up to G-pa and G-ma's treehouse.  Even though it was pretty high up there, you weren't even a bit hesitant until it creaked.  You needed a little help from me to climb the rest of the way, but you made it!  The journaling was then grounded with a stamped, in Jet Black ink, ">>TRUE STORY<<" and topped with a "remember when" word bubble sticker.
Each of the photos were then numbered, with Thickers, in the order they were taken, just to help tell the story.  A stamped, in Jet Black ink, "FAV" circle; Cameo-cut, from So Saffron cardstock, wheat stalk...
bit of white string, wrapped around the #2 photo (No, I did not have her pose that way.  That's all her!), and tied in a bow, as well as a trio of phrase bits...
and "SWEETEST LITTLE THING" banner die cut, complete the look.
