Driving by with a Birthday "Hi"!

Thursday, June 11, 2015

Morning, friends!  I hope you've had a great week so far!  I'm finally beginning to catch up with most of you.  Thank you for your patience!  But I just wanted to pop in here super quick to share a card I made my hubby for his birthday yesterday.  I used one of his favorite stamp sets of mine, Loads of Love, from Stampin' Up!
I started his card by clear embossing a number of different leafy images on watercolor paper and washing over them with Calypso Coral and Night of Navy inks.  I then softened everything with a sheet of vellum, which was secured over the embossed/watercolored piece with navy-threaded, straight, machine stitches, framing the entire piece and anchoring both itself to the Night of Navy, cardstock mat, as well as a trio of hand-cut, patterned, paper pennants near the top left corner.  One of the pennants was stamped, in Jet Black ink, with the "driving by with a birthday 'Hi'!" sentiment, and they were all popped up with foam tape.  Before securing the prepped piece, to the Kraft, cardstock, card face, with foam tape, I wrapped it several times with a length of white chord which was tied, in a bow, to the left edge of the pennant grouping.
The car was black-embossed on White cardstock and watercolored in shades of Night of Navy, Calypso Coral, Chocolate Chip, Pool Party (which shows up way better in real life), Basic Black, and Blush Blossom Stampin' Up inks, as well as Tea Dye, Antique Linen, Old Paper, and Pumice Stone Distress Inks.  It was then hand-cut out and adhered, with foam tape, in the bottom center of the card face.
A sprinkling of clear gemstones and sequins completes the look.
Inspiration for this card came from Always Playing With Paper's The Challenge #38...
and I was completely drawn to the botanical bits; bold, dark frame; and color trio, although I did swap the photo's pink, green, and ivory palette for the one above, in House of Cards' End of Term Blog Hop.
Here are a few pics of our birthday celebrations.  My hubby got his favorite carrot cake to round off a taco salad requested dinner.
Ezekiel helped us in singing Happy Birthday...
and a handful of gifts, mostly of things he just really needed, but he did get a couple fun things like new cologne (Maybe that's more for me ;).) and an Avengers DVD, rounded out the evening.
Alright, I've got a grumpy, teething baby ready for a nap and a set of curtains to finish up.  So, I'd better get off here and get something done.  Thanks so much for peeking in!  Have a blessed Thursday!  Hugs!

Jinny, what a fantastic card! I love the soft background and the trio of banners! Happy birthday to your husband. I'm going back now to see what I've missed on your blog. It's been busy with the end of the school year and now I'm moving my mom out of her house into a senior living apartment. I hope you are doing well!
