The Studio Sketch Challenge

Sunday, June 7, 2015

Morning, friends!  Just stopping back in, as promised in my previous On Your Wedding Day post, with my take on The Studio's latest challenge.  Anna cooked up a fabulous sketch inspired by Hee Sun Kim's take on our Pinterest Challenge, and I had so much fun making it my own by first and foremost swapping out the floral bits for chevrons.  I put my Cameo to good use with inspiration from Crate Paper's Journey Collection, but you'll also find lots of goodies from Heidi Swapp and My Mind's Eye amidst the layers.  Here goes!
I started this page by cutting a bunch of chevrons, with my Cameo, from the kraft, cardstock, base page, which had its edges distressed with Tea Dye, Antique Linen, and Pumice Stone Distress Inks, and backing each vertical row with a different, coordinating, patterned paper.  I then stamped the background, in White ink, with more chevrons and, in Jet Black ink, with the interlocking diamonds, before securing a few more Cameo-cut, patterned, paper chevrons down their centers with white-threaded, messy, machine stitches and placing lots of cork, sticker chevrons throughout the design.  I then layered my photo, which had been matted with Whisper White cardstock, over an aqua, stripe, patterned paper and bit of tissue paper, as well as a sheet of gold, polka dot, foil vellum and gold, stripe transparency.
A trio cut files, cut from Always artichoke, Chocolate Chip, Night of Navy, Whisper White, and teal cardstocks, as well as a wood, glitter arrow and cloud rubon, ground the bottom left corner of the photo.  I should clarify that these Amy Tangerine rubons don't work very well.  They frustrate me to no end!  So, my plan was to secure the cloud onto a sheet of vellum first, just in case it only partially came off and so that I didn't totally ruin my page, but it wouldn't even come off the acrylic sheet.  So, I just brushed a little baby powder on the back to take any sticky away and hand-cut it out of its original packaging.  Works for me ;).
The top right corner of the photo was embellished with a "Good Memories", acrylic die cut, secured with a single staple, and "DARE TO DREAM" sticker.
I then created the "CRAZY horse" title from Marquee Thickers and yellow letters and anchored it with a stamped, in Jet Black ink, "journey".
A floral tag, laced with a bit of white string, tied in a bow, and tucked in behind the photo, was the perfect place for my journaling.
It reads, Even though Crazy Horse didn't occupy much time on our trip to S.D., it brought back childhood memories and, hopefully, created new ones for our own kiddos.  Tues., Sept. 27, 2011.  A trio of pink brads completes the look.
Here is the Sketch Challenge to get you off and going in the right direction.
Further inspiration for this page came from Scrap Our Stash's Stash Challenge #27: Brads (B = Brads & Bow; R = Rubon cloud; A = Arrow & Aqua; D = Die cuts, Diamonds, & Distressing; S = Stamping, Stitching, Staple, Stickers, & Stripes).
Be sure to stop by the challenge link above to get all your challenge details and to see how the rest of the team was inspired.  Looking forward to seeing what you all cook up!  Thanks, as always, for stopping by, and have a truly blessed Sunday!
