It's a Fiesta...

Thursday, July 9, 2015

Morning, friends!  I hope you're all having a great week!  It's been rainy and stormy here.  Matter of fact, we had to take shelter, from a string of tornadoes picked up on Doppler, Monday evening.  But it looks like everyone fared well... just lots of downed trees and flooding, and a few people in our neck of the woods lost electricity for a time.  Amidst it all, Ezekiel's last baseball game of the season was postponed, but the weather didn't stop us from celebrating his 12th birthday on Tuesday.  Here's the card I made for him in honor of his most recent trip to Mexico.
I started this card by trimming the bottom of a piece of gray, floral, patterned paper with strips of yellow chevron and green, southwest, patterned papers; framing them all with Daffodil Delight cardstock; and securing them with black-threaded, straight and zig-zag, machine stitches.  I then wrapped a length of Coral Calypso twine around the connection of the two paper strips and tied it, in a bow, near the right edge of the prepped piece, before adhering it, to the White, cardstock, card face, with foam tape.
The partial, "IT'S A" sentiment was stamped, in Jet Black ink, near the top edge of a green, stripe, journaling card and grounded with a Cameo-cut, from Coral Calypso cardstock, "Fiesta".
The remainder of the "IT'S A Fiesta... but only if you come." sentiment was stamped, in Jet Black ink, near the bottom center of that same journaling card...
and the space between the two was filled in with the stamped, in Jet Black ink, on White cardstock, jalapeño, which was colored in with pencils; hand-cut out; and although I know it's not visible here, brushed with a bit of Wink of Stella shine.  I used to truly love coloring with my pencils, but more and more, I find I regret not pulling out those watercolors when I'm done :(.  He loved it, regardless.  A healthy sprinkling of colorful sequins completes the look.
Further theme AND color inspiration for this card came from House of Card's July Challenge: Food and/or Color Inspiration.
We're heading out to a Royals game to continue the celebrations this afternoon (Woohoo!), but here are a few pics from our little, family party on Tuesday.  Ezekiel got new socks and tennies (He's gone up two sizes since this time last year!  And once he tried these on, I'm thinking he could've gone up to a 10-1/2.  I never have been able to keep him in clothes.  Sigh.); a book he'd been wanting, which he's probably already got read; and a bat bag, filled with a few baseball-playing essentials he was in need of, like batting gloves and Big League Chew.  Tee hee!  Even though the summer season will be over with that rescheduled game I talked about above, we've still got to get him ready for fall ball.  I'd better start thinking layers.
Adina also purchased a collection of Lego Mixels for him...
and we celebrated with his chosen pot roast dinner and Triple Layer Lemon Cake.
Thanks so much for peeking in!  I'm signing off a little early for the weekend, but I've got a few things I'm cooking up to share next week.  Have a good one!  Hugs!
