Welcome to the weekend! We're off on our next adventure after milk and doughnuts; but before that, I promised to stop back in here with this month's For the Love of Books post, and I'm here now to deliver. This fitting, back-to-school adventure is written for children ages five to eight; but its playful, watercolor illustrations are sure to entice the young and old alike.
First Day Jitters, written by Julie Danneberg and illustrated by Judy Love, tells the story of Sarah Jane Hartwell's first morning at a new school. She reluctantly tunnels under her bed covers, daydreaming of how dreadful her class would be; but Mr. Hartwell is finally able to encourage her into the bathroom to get ready and downstairs for a piece of toast, before she stumbles into the car. When she arrives at the school, Mrs. Burton, the school principal, immediately welcomes and shows her to her classroom. Most of the children are already in their seats when Mrs. Burton leads Sarah to the front of the room and introduces her as the students' new teacher, Mrs. Sarah Jane Hartwell.
Sarah's face is completely covered right up to the end of the book. So, the twist in plot, from the everyday reader thinking Sarah is just another student in the class to learning she's actually the teacher, is a pure delight. Love to know what you all think! Thanks so much for reading! Now, get out there and make the most of your weekend! XOXO
