The Studio Patterned Background Challenge

Sunday, January 17, 2016

Morning, y'all!  Just popping in with my take on the newest challenge from The Studio.  We're looking for pages boasting patterned paper backgrounds this week.  Using subtle background prints is kind of my thing, so I'm not sure this was really a challenge for me.  Regardless, I had so much fun using a happy mix of goodies, from a variety of manufacturers, to make this page of Ezekiel when he was in a preschool swim class years ago.
I started this page by smudging, as well as splattering, two shades of watercolor onto the aqua, grid, patterned, paper, base page.  I then stamped it, in Brocade Blue, Marina Mist, and Baja Breeze inks, with the splashes; little waves; and coffee rings, which I think look like popped bubbles.  A handful of sequin rubons prep the page for my mix of prints, some of which were anchored, with black-threaded, straight, machine stitches.  Everything was then splattered with Pure Black and Titanium White acrylic paints...
before my photos, which were matted with Whisper White cardstock, got glued into their grid formation.  A hand-cut, from patterned paper, sketchy heart was tucked into the top right corner of that grid and topped with the "Swim LESSONS" title, which was created from a Silhouette cut file, Whisper White cardstock, and Flash Alphas and grounded with the stamped, in Jet Black ink, on a White, cardstock, die-cut banner, "WHALE DONE!" phrase, which was tucked under that darling whale.  The whale was black-embossed on a watercolor paper die cut; of course, watercolored; and secured, with foam tape, over a tangle of black string.
A "POOL OPEN" chipboard bit and number of stamped phrases, one of which was filled in with the June 11, 2008, date, rounds out the top of the design...
and a black, foam "today"; "best day" puffy stickers; and stamped, in Jet Black ink, "details:", followed by my journaling, which reads, Preschool 2: Learn to Swim with Beth, Sylvester Powell Community Center, ground the design and complete the look.
Further inspiration for this page came from Clique Kits' January Challenge: Anything Goes, The Memory Nest's Make It Monday No. 51 (This was my first time getting to play, despite the fact that I've been being inspired by Leslie and her team for quite some time now.  Yay!)...
and Scrap Our Stash's Stash Challenge #34.  I was inspired by the water in the background, as well as the blue and red palette, and I've got lots of white paint and acrylic and watercolor paint splatters throughout.  So fun!
You have until Sunday, February 14, 2016, to link up your takes in the right-hand column of The Studio blog.  Have fun with this one!  And because it's a five-Sunday month, we'll be back with one final, January challenge, for you to try your hand at, in just two weeks.  Thanks so much for stopping by, and have an amazing week!  Hugs!
