The Studio Sketch Challenge

Sunday, February 14, 2016

Happy Valentine's Day, friends!  I hope you all have spectacular plans for today.  I'll be staying in, as I've got a little one that is sick with a cold; but I've also got a Valentine's Day dessert in the works that is sure to surprise everyone else upon their return from church.  Mmm!  But you've come here to see something new from The Studio.  So, I won't delay one bit more.  We've got a fun, new sketch to inspire your creative time this month.  Additionally, we're looking for you to add a heart someplace on your takes.  Here's mine.
I started this page by cutting the Love Heart cut file from my textured, white, cardstock, base page and backing each "love" with a variety of printed papers.  I then smudged Sunshine and Sky Mister Huey's over everything behind where my photo would lie, as well as near a little cluster that would be formed near the bottom right corner, and splattered those locations with both Pure Black and Titanium White, acrylic paints.  The main area was topped with a number of prints, a couple of which were framed with gold-threaded, straight, machine stitching, as well as a scrap of striped, gold foil vellum, and in turn, topped with the photo, which was matted with white cardstock.  A couple lengths of Washi, as well as a pink and gold, chevron die cut turn our attention to the black, foam, "my crew" title, which was stuck over a gold, ampersand die cut.
The "HELLO, I LOVE YOU" tag was die-cut from a cut-away sheet; stamped, in Jet Black ink, with the additional "4EVER" phrase; embellished with a die-cut, white, cardstock ring; laced with Charcoal twine, tied in a bow...
and used for a little journaling, which reads, Staying in for Valentine's Day couldn't be any more fun with you 3!  Mwah!
Just to the right of the tag, I stamped a couple of cupids in Daffodil Delight ink, as well as the "Happy Valentine's Day" sentiment in Jet Black ink.  Additionally, I added a floral brad and a "note:" rubon.
Just below the photo itself, you'll find a "today" rubon.  These rubons are from My Mind's Eye, and y'all, they get a ginormous stamp of approval from me!  If you've been a follower of my blog for long, you know that's a big deal, as I'm not a fan of most rubons that come across my desk; but these ones went on like butter.  The true test will be if they continue to do so a couple of months down the road, but right now, I'm loving them.  I stamped another trio of phrases in Jet Black ink...
before moving on to the bottom of the page.  Here I stamped a happy array of hearts in Strawberry Slush ink.  I also secured a trio of papers, a couple, again, with gold-threaded, straight, machine stitching, along with a bit more of that Washi tape from above.  Each layer was then topped with my secondary cluster, which includes a chipboard globe; hand-cut, from patterned paper, "XO", which I also stamped, in Jet Black ink, with a couple of criss-crossing arrows; tangle of gold thread; and a stamped, in Daffodil Delight ink, on a White, cardstock die cut, cupid.  A number of stamped, in Jet Black ink, hearts complete the look.
Further inspiration for this page came from Simon Says Stamps' Monday Challenge: Spritz and Spray, Clique Kit's February Challenge: Anything Goes, and ScrapMuch?'s February Colour Challenge.
And here's your Sketch Challenge to get you off and running in the right direction.  Don't forget to add a heart.
You have until Sunday, March 13, 2016, to link up your takes in the right-hand column of The Studio blog.  Thanks so much for stopping by, and have an amazing week, friends!

This layout is flippin' phenomenal! I really love the way you combined all of the eclectic elements and embellishments to create a whimsical vibe, yet it still has a lot of thought and effort behind it. It looks like it's exploding with energy onto the page, yet you still kept it logical and organized. This looks like the best of both worlds to me and I'm so glad you shared this with us for this week's Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge!
