The Studio Diamonds Challenge

Note: This is my second post for today.  Please be sure to scroll down and check out my Paper Sweeties Cupcake Inspirations Sponsorship post.

Good morning, y'all; and happy Mother's Day, moms!  It's a new month, and that means a new challenge from The Studio.  We'd like to see diamonds this month.  That could mean simply a diamond shape or actual diamond jewels.  I pulled inspiration for my take from the song Diamonds by Hawk Nelson.  I've also added subtle, diamond stenciling and a gem die cut.  The wood veneer heart, too, reminds me of the cut of a diamond, and I was sure to add lots of gold and sparkle.  Enjoy!
I started this page by typing up the lyrics landscape and printing them on a piece of white cardstock.  I then cut the corners off and secured them, with blue-threaded, straight and zig-zag, machine stitches, in the top left and bottom right corners of a piece of trimmed-down, woodgrain, patterned paper, before adhering the entire thing slightly at an angle and flush against the right edge of the teal, medallion print.  I then went a little wild with gesso and watercolors, even a bit of stenciling with modeling paste, before adding my layers of patterned papers below where my photo would rest.  A couple of those prints were framed with blue-threaded, straight, machine stitches, before I stamped a number of messy, rounded frames, as well as a quartet of hearts, in Jet Black ink, throughout the design.  I then splattered everything with more of the same colors of watercolors used previously, as well as Pure Black and Titanium White acrylic paints.  Once it was dry, I placed my photo, which was matted with white cardstock, smack dab in the center of the colorful prints and embellished its bottom left corner with a teal-framed label; wood veneer heart; diamond die cut; and a foam, glitter "shine".
A "follow your heart", chipboard banner graces the top left corner of the photo; and a glitter tag, laced with a bit of white string, tied in a bow, was tucked, just above the cluster photographed above, along the left edge of the photo.
The journaling reads, Being a mom is by far the most difficult job I've ever had.  Some days, I just want to throw my hands in the air and quit.  Then, I'm reminded of Hawk Nelson's song "Diamonds"; take a step back...
breathe; and sometimes, even cry a little (or a lot) before continuing on, resting in the assurance that, "The joy of the Lord, it will be my strength.  When the pressure is on, He's making diamonds," out of my kiddos and me.  recorded: 5-6-16
In continuing to move clockwise around the photo itself, the "HE'S making DIAMONDS" title was created from Deep Sea Flash Alphas; a Cameo-cut, white, cardstock "making", which I gave a little shine with Glossy Accents; and foam, glitter Thickers.
A "GOOD VIBES", cut-away phrase...
and "OCTOBER", Deep Sea Mini Alphas complete the main grouping...
and turn our attention to the top of the page.  Here you'll find a "BE YOURSELF", cut-away phrase, topped with acrylic numbers, anchored with a few staples.  The "15" represents the year 2015, when this photo was taken.  I tucked a kraft tag, laced with white string, under its bottom right corner.  A "sparkle and shine" die cut, which I popped up with foam tape, as well as a mix of chipboard and foam, glitter hearts, completes the look.
Further inspiration for this page came from Stuck?! Sketches' May 1st Challenge...
and Show Us Your Stuff's May Challenge: Poetry & Hearts.  I know that, technically, I've included song lyrics rather than a poem, but I believe there's room to argue that the words themselves possess the pure essence of poetry.
You have until Sunday, June 5, 2016, to link up your takes in the right-hand column of The Studio blog.  Be sure to stop by the challenge link above to see how the rest of the team was inspired.  Thanks for stopping by!  Be blessed!
