Happy Birthday, Ezekiel!

Thursday, July 7, 2016

Evening, y'all!  I apologize for getting in here so late tonight.  We've been out and about celebrating my big kiddos' 13th birthday today.  Gosh, where does the time go?  I can so clearly remember watching him sleep as a baby and whispering to him that it was time to wake up, because mommy was bored and ready to take him out to see the world or how proud he was sharing all the things he learned at kindergarten graduation or when he could finally ride his bike without training wheels.  It seems like just yesterday I was taking him to swim lessons and storytime or setting him up on the counter to help me bake cookies.  It was just he and I for nearly five and a half years, and we made the most of every minute together.  I can't help but think that his days here at home with me are numbered.  He's growing up so fast; and while I know he'll be ready, when the time comes for him to venture out into the world on his own, I so desperately want time to just slow down.  Sigh.  I've got pics to share from his day; but first, how about his birthday card?
I started his card by covering a piece of White cardstock with a trio of balloons, stamped in Cherry Cobbler, Daffodil Delight, and Brocade Blue inks.  I was going to add strings, but it was just a little to busy for my liking.  I then black-embossed the Chalkboard Birthday sentiment and die-cut the word "happy" along its right edge.
Before popping the die-cut piece back up, with foam tape, in its negative space and coating it with a little Glossy Accents, just for added interest, I matted the entire thing with Brocade Blue cardstock, secured in place with black-threaded, straight, machine stitching.
A bit of Maraschino twine was then wrapped around its top edge and tied in a bow, before adhering it, to the White, cardstock, card face, with foam tape, to complete the look.
I'm adding this one to Simon Says Stamp's Work It Wednesday: Wafer Thin Dies Challenge.
We spent the morning trying to get some cleaning and laundry done; but then, we headed to Whole Foods for a few more needed groceries for Ezekiel's birthday dinner.  He asked for Pasta Primavera (a fantastic, vegetable-packed recipe from one of the teachers I used to work with long ago) with shrimp and Dr. Pepper Cupcakes.  Then, we ran across the street to Half Price Books, which, next to Barnes and Noble, is Ezekiel's favorite place to shop, before meeting up with my hubby for a birthday lunch at Red Robin.
When we got home, Ezekiel said, "What a great morning!"  It's the simple things, y'all ;).  We each busied ourselves with our own activities, while Kaden rested.  Then, when my hubby got home from work, we enjoyed Ezekiel's birthday dinner and dessert.  Mmmm!
He waited patiently all day for his gifts.  He got an adult-size sleeping bag.  No more squeezing into his little one.  Tee hee!  He also got a few favorite candies, Nerf Super Soaker, purity ring, and a couple of Royals tees...
to dress him up for Saturday's Faith and Family Day at Kauffman Stadium.  I think he's most excited about the post-game concert by Casting Crowns.  Yay!
So, we're stretching the celebrations out into the weekend; but it really was a great day today.  Thanks so much for stopping by!  Have a blessed night!  And happy birthday, Ezekiel!  I love you more than I could ever adequately put into words and am so thankful that God gave me YOU!
