The Studio Summer Challenge

Sunday, July 17, 2016

Morning, y'all!  Just stopping in to share my take on a new challenge from The Studio.  We're looking for summer pages this go around.  Nothing says summer, to me, more than a little free time, sunshine, and pool play.
I started this page by smudging Piglet and Sky Mister Huey's, as well as Patina Glimmer Mist, onto the textured, white, cardstock, base page.  I then splattered it with those same mists, before rubbing Squeezed Lemonade Distress Ink through a sunburst stencil to create the subtle sunshine in the background.  After adhering a mixture of prints in the center of the sunburst, everything was splattered with Pure Black and Titanium White acrylic paints.  Once everything was dry, those same prints were then secured with blue-threaded, straight, machine stitches.  My photos were then matted with white cardstock and adhered, in their respective positions, over a wax envelope, housing my hand-cut, white, cardstock, journaling tag, which reads, There's nothing better than cooling off and hanging out @ the pool on a hot, summer day.  I just love to watch both of you play, explore, meet new friends, discover untold possibilities, and gain confidence in your swimming abilities.  The tag was also embellished with a Brocade Blue, cardstock, die-cut ring, as well as a little twine, tied in a bow.  The dual, "POOL fun/play" title, which was made from puffy alphas; a puffy, "fun" sticker; and a "play" die cut, dressed up with a little glitter, was created over the envelope itself.  A yellow label, filled in with the place these photos were taken, Mission Family Aquatic Center, was inserted in its center.
Across the top of the design I adhered a hand-cut, blue label, stamped, in Jet Black ink, with the "EXPLORE" sentiment, as well as a word bubble, to which I stuck a happy, little, sunshine, puffy sticker.
The bottom left corner of my left-side photo was dressed up with a "Life is pretty good.", cut-away phrase, which I popped up with foam tape.
A couple of tags, one of which was stamped, in Jet Black ink, with the "FUN IN THE SUN" phrase and both of which were laced with white string and twine respectively, along with the stamped, in Jet Black ink, "FUN DAY AUG 07 2015" date round out the bottom of the design.
A scattering of puffy, floral sticker and walnut wood chips, as well as an acetate tag, laced with a little more twine, and a "THESE DAYS" tab, secured with a simple staple, complete the look.
Further inspiration for this page came from Citrus Twist's July 10th Sunday Sketch.
Can't wait to see what you all cook up!  You have until Sunday, August 14, 2016, to link up your takes, on this Summer Challenge and/or our Colour Challenge, in the right-hand column of The Studio blog.  AND this is a five-Sunday month, so we've still got one more July challenge coming your way to ensure that the creative juices keep flowing all month long.  Be sure to stop by the challenge link above to see how the rest of our talented team was inspired.  Thanks so much for stopping by, and have a great start to your work weeks, friends!
