The Studio Mood Board Challenge

Sunday, January 15, 2017

Morning, friends!  It's a new week, and that means a new challenge is up in The Studio.  I've picked a gorgeous mood board to wet your creative appetites.  Poised Taupe, the gray color near right center of the graphic below, is Sherwin Williams' Color of the Year; so, I thought it would be fun to start 2017 off on trend.  Here goes!
I started this page by using Creative Scrappers' Ice Cream Stick cut file to cut the background from textured, white cardstock.  I then filled in the open spaces with lots of scrumptious, color-coordinating, masculine prints; added gesso behind where my photos would lie; threw a little more color on the background with watercolor paints; stamped a number of stars in Jet Black ink; and splattered everything with Pure Black and Titanium White acrylic paints.  A number of additional, coordinating prints, including a notebook journaling card, were adhered (Some were anchored with navy-threaded, straight, machine stitching.) behind were my photos, which were matted with white cardstock, were adhered.  A couple of large, die-cut, cork stars and puffy, cloud punch outs were tucked in behind those prints.  I even squeezed a little more navy thread in between the clouds.
"HAPPY THE ONLY WAY TO BE" and "LOVE" cut-apart phrases were secured, vertically, near the top of the design; dressed up with a couple more cork stars, as well as a blue button, laced with white string; and...
used to ground my "Batter Up!" title, which was Cameo-cut from Marina Mist cardstock, adhered over a third cloud punch out, and layered with a "now" acrylic.
Behind the left edge of the title and top edge of my photos, I tucked a wax envelope to house a manila tag, laced with navy twine, tied in a bow.
The tag itself holds my journaling, which reads,  We LOVE to watch you play ball!  It makes you so happy, which makes us so happy.  You got super comfortable @ 1st base this season.  Eric Hosmer would be so proud, and you just love to steal those bases.  Go get 'em!
A couple of additional, cut-apart phrases, along with a "the best time of the year" phrase sticker, because it truly is the best time of the year, round out the left side of the design...
and an "EXCELLENT MOMENT enjoying the time together" cut-apart, as well as a navy, "DATE:" Summer 2015, label complete the right.
Further inspiration for this page came from Let's Get Sketchy's January Week 2 Challenge...
and Citrus Twist's January 15th 3-to-Inspire Challenge to (1) use blue, (2) journal on a tag or label, and (3) make a title with a die cut.
And here's your January Mood Board Challenge graphic to get you off and creating in the right direction.  This palette had me at hello and made me think of the colors of Ezekiel's old baseball team.  I couldn't resist tying in a little bit of denim, and the cut file I chose for the background was inspired by the graphic design in the bottom right corner.
You have until Sunday, February 12, 2017, to link up your takes in the right-hand column of The Studio blog.  Have fun with this one, and be sure to stop by the challenge link above to see how the rest of my talented team was inspired.  Thanks so much for stopping by!  Have a wonderful week, y'all!  XOXO
