The Studio Sketch Challenge

Sunday, April 9, 2017

Morning, friends!  We've got our first April challenge up over in The Studio.  Anna has cooked up a sketch based upon Rachel's take on our January Inspired by a Song Challenge.  I rotated it 90 degrees to the right and used paint swatches, as per a secondary challenge below, for the large square.  I hope that I haven't totally butchered it.  Well, let's just see what we see.  Shall we?
I started this page by using an old gift card to smear my Crumb Cake, cardstock, base page with gesso and True Blue acrylic paint.  I then smudged Faded Jeans Distress Ink through a triangle stencil and stamped lots of triangles, in Jet Black ink, throughout, before splattering everything with Pure Black and Titanium White acrylic paints.  As I said above, I used a number of paint swatches, some of which were anchored with simple staples, to form the large square from the sketch below.  My photo was matted with white cardstock, backed with a folded and torn sheet of vellum, and popped up with foam tape in the center of them.  I then began embellishing throughout the page, beginning just to the photo's left with a star chart die cut and "Wild and Free" cut-apart, stamped, in Jet Black ink, with a trio of phrases.
An "ALWAYS DREAMING OF..." cut-apart, completed with a stamped, in Jet Black ink, "FUN", rounds the top left corner of the photo...
and a cloud, cut-apart label, stamped, in Jet Black ink, with the "JUL 15 2012" date, as well as "TWINKLE" and "ADVENTURE" cut-aparts, crowns it.
A green, scribble die-cut was tucked under the top right corner of the paint swatches...
and a "JUST BEING ME IS FUN" cut-apart under the top right corner of the photo itself.  A "YOLO" cut-apart was turned into a tag; laced with white string, tied in a bow; and popped up with foam tape.  Another cut-apart was tucked under the right center of the paint swatches.
A "from the heart" die cut was tucked under the bottom right corner of the photo.  In turn, the die cut's bottom right corner was dressed up with a simple, journaling square, upon which I wrote, What if I fall?  Oh, but darling, what if you fly? - Peter Pan.
A "NEVERLAND IS MY HOME" cut-apart, popped up with foam tape, and puffy, "Always" sticker, which creates the title itself, ground the entire design.
I then tucked an "untold story", cut-apart tab under the photo's immediate, bottom right corner and added an acrylic "e", for Ezekiel, to the photo itself.
A "ONE OF A KIND", cut-apart flag, anchored, at its left end, with a blue button, laced with white string, as well as a number of white, cardstock, cloud die-cuts and sprinkling of black foam and wood chip stars, not to mention lots of black-threaded, machine stitching, completes the look.
Further inspiration for this page came from Kraft +'s April Challenge: Swatch It Up!...
and here's this month's Sketch Challenge to get you off and creating in the right direction.
You have until Sunday, May 7, 2017, to link up your takes in the right-hand column of The Studio blog.  Be sure to stop by the challenge link above to see how the rest of the team was inspired.  Thanks so much for stopping by!  XOXO
