The Studio Recipe Challenge

Sunday, May 7, 2017

Hey, y'all!  Just popping in with my take on our first May challenge in The Studio.  We've got a Recipe Challenge, to use all or as many of the items from the list below as possible, for you all, this go around.
  1. Paint
  2. Hand-sewing
  3. Fussy-Cutting
  4. Frame
  5. Buttons
  6. Pink
I've managed to include all of them on my page, along with lots of goodies that came in my Citrus Twist kits at one time or another, a darling Pretty Little Studio Vintage Die Cut, and a cutie-patootie pic of my baby bear.
I started this page by smudging Patina Glimmer Mist, onto the textured, white, cardstock, base page, behind where my photo would eventually lie.  I then rubbed Squeezed Lemonade Distress Ink, through a sunburst stencil, over it.  Tip:  While this sunburst stencil looks totally cool, it is NOT made for use with inks or modeling paste.  It is the most flimsy stencil I've ever used and actually went into the trash promptly after this page was complete.  It frustrates me every time I pull it out; and this time, I did it in.  Long story short, don't buy this particular stencil from Studio Calico, unless you're working solely with mists.  I then anchored a couple of prints down the vertical, right edge of the page with black-threaded, straight, machine stitching; used a convenient space on the inner print to etch the May 14th date...
and dressed up their combined inner edge with a trio of buttons (#5. Check!), laced with white string, before splattering everything with more of that Patina Glimmer Mist used above, as well as Pure Black and Titanium White acrylic paints.  (#1. Check!)
My photo, which was matted with white cardstock, was then backed with six happy prints, a few of which were anchored with black-threaded, straight, machine stitching, as well as a wax envelope, stuffed with a manila tag, laced with red string, tied in a bow.
Opposite the tag lies my bold, chipboard, "this" title, grounded with a "TOTALLY YOU" cut-apart, popped up with foam tape.  Tip:  These Dear Lizzy, chipboard, HELLO Thickers don't stick for anything.  Apply them with a little Glossy Accents (My favorite!) or liquid glue to ensure they stay put for generations to come.
I then used the shape of the "HEAD in the CLOUDS" die cut, which I popped off the surface of the page with foam tape, to pencil in a couple of fluffy clouds and hand-stitched around them with white string.  (#2. Check!)
I just couldn't resist using this sweet, little Geoffrey #2 Vintage Die Cut from Pretty Little Studio.  He was popped up with foam tape and had a fussy-cut (#3. Check!) frame (#4. Check!) hung from his chompers.  The frame itself was popped up with foam tape and had a "just perfect" banner die cut strung across its bottom center with foam tape.
A couple of phrase stickers, one of which was filled in with the Being YOU phrase and the other of which was popped up with foam tape, complete the look.  Okay.  Okay.  I know you're wondering about #6. Pink from the Recipe Challenge list.  It's subtle, but it's in there.  The torn edges of the blue, gingham print reveal its pink-speckled backside AND Geoffrey's cheeks and inner ears are definitely pink.  (#6. Check!)
Further inspiration for this page came from Let's Get Sketchy's May 1st Sketch Challenge.
You have until Sunday, June 4, 2017, to link up your takes in the right-hand column of The Studio blog.  Be sure to stop by the challenge link above to see how the rest of the team was inspired.  Thanks so much for stopping by!  Have a blessed Sunday, y'all!
