Pretty Little Studio: Ada Rose

Thursday, July 20, 2017

Morning, friends!  I trust you're all having a great week.  Ours has been super busy, which for the time, is a good thing; as it distracts us from some of the daily disappointments we've been facing.  But on top of the busyness, my hubby's Jeep broke down again.  Ugh!  Fortunately, for our pocketbook, he's able to fix it himself this time.  However, we still have to wait for the parts to arrive; and being down one vehicle always makes it difficult to ensure everyone is where they need to be at the right time.  We're making do; but getting time to steal away and play with my Pretty Little Studio goodies, in the evenings, always helps drown away the sorrow.  A little of this "me" time recently resulted in a soft, sweet page of my niece with her mom and dad.  It's up on the Pretty Little Studio blog today; and I'd like to share it here, too.  Enjoy!
I started this page by scraping a foundation of white gesso across the textured, white, cardstock, base page with an old gift card.  Once it was dry, I used that same applicator to scrape both Ballet Pink acrylic paint and a hand-formulated, aqua acrylic paint behind where my photos, which were matted with white cardstock, would lie.  I then splattered over everything with those same acrylic paints, as well as Pure Black and Titanium White acrylic paints, before securing a number of prints, from a variety of different collections, with gold-threaded, straight, machine stitches, behind where my make-shift grid would lie.  A "BEAUTY" So Lovely Bingo card, overlaid with a sheet of clear cardstock and stuffed with flowers from the Polka Dots Die Cuts package, hearts from the Walk in the Park Die Cuts package, as well as Snowcone, Clear Skies, Seaspray, and gold, star sequins, all secured inside a little pocket with gold-threaded, straight, machine stitching, grounds the bottom left corner.
Just to the right of the photo of my niece, I popped that precious Honey Vintage Die Cut up with foam tape.
Behind Honey lies a Sprinkles Bookmark; Happy Ticket; couple of Walk in the Park Die Cut branches; duo of Peonies and Love You Stickers, backed with white cardstock, hand-cut out, and popped up with foam tape; and lots of gorgeous, gold foil, transparency shapes from Freckled Fawn.
A Butterfly Bush Sticker, backed with white cardstock and hand-cut out, crowns the bear...

and a "you are awesome" Walk in the Park Die Cut, laced with white string, tied in a bow, and popped up with foam tape...

turns our attention to the family photo, which was backed with a folded sheet of Light Blue Latitude Vellum; anchored with a "this makes me smile" A Great Day Flag Sticker, backed with white cardstock and popped up with foam tape; and finished off with a Laura Tab, stapled in place and filled in with a "new life" Baby Words Sticker.
Polka Dot Die Cuts to spell my niece's name, "ADA ROSE", creates the title; and both a "lovely" Acrylic Word and fabric, glitter star complete the look.
I know that I haven't been posting outside my Design Team duties or even been around to visiting much lately, but school will be starting up again soon; and once we get back into a routine, hopefully, I'll have a little more time to myself once again.  Until then, thanks for hanging in there with me and always for visiting!  XOXO

The Studio No People Challenge

Sunday, July 16, 2017

Morning, y'all!  Just popping in with our second, July challenge in The Studio.  We'd like to see pages with photo(s) possessing no people.  As soon as I saw this challenge, I immediately knew just the photo that I wanted to scrap.  It's a photo of my workbook and Bible from a study I did at our last church.  It wasn't until I was putting together the final, finishing touches, however, that I realized there was a person on the cover of that workbook.  There wasn't time to start over, so I went with it.  All of the goodies you see here came from my July "#rightnow" Citrus Twist kit.  I absolutely adore all those scrumptious, Bella Blvd. Make Your Mark die cuts!
I started this page by adding a few pink, aqua, and green watercolor puddles and splatters to a 12" x 12" piece of watercolor paper.  I then used a honeycomb stencil to rub Squeezed Lemonade Distress Ink over the puddles and splattered everything once again, but this time with Pure Black and Titanium White acrylic paints.  Once it was dry, I secured a trio of prints, with gold-threaded, straight, machine stitches, over the bulk of the mixed media and topped them with my photo, which was matted with white cardstock.  The photo itself was also backed with a snippet of cheesecloth; wrapped with a length of Baker's Twine, tied in a bow; embellished with a single, striped, arrow die cut; and popped up with foam tape.
A number of floral die cuts, as well as a cut-apart, pink, polka dot ticket and "ESSENTIAL" tab, dress up the photo's bottom left corner...
and a couple of additional, floral die cuts, along with a wood veneer "true", the top left.

"Today I choose Joy" and "SHINE ON" die cuts, popped up with foam tape, crown the design...
and a "DO WHATEVER SCARES YOU" die cut, which was also popped up with foam tape, grounds it.
A couple of extra, phrase die cuts, in combination with a "SET YOUR SOUL ON FIRE" cut-apart, number of wood veneer stars, and lots of journaling, completes the look.  The journaling reads,
I’ve never enjoyed hanging out with groups of women.  Matter of fact, they terrify me.  Maybe it’s because I grew up in a house full of estrogen.  Maybe it’s because I feel that women have unapologetically hurt me, or maybe I just wasn’t wired quite like the rest.  Whatever it may be, aside from the fact that I’ve never enjoyed a number of the activities that the general population typically associates with women, it has always led me to avoid group activities of the female sort at all costs.  As one may imagine, this wiring makes people question me; and many of the women in my life have treated me as though I chose to be like this and could do something about it.  Believing that something was wrong with me, I stepped out on a limb and signed up for a women’s Bible study.  I was open and honest and truly felt as though I brought something to the table; but while my hesitation about women was further deepened by the happy facades and lack of sincerity I found, I took away something so much greater.  I deepened my walk with the Lord, fell in love with His Word, and learned that absolutely nothing is wrong with me.  I’m made by and for Him.  He doesn’t make mistakes and loves me exactly the way I am.
Tip: Pencil in a vertical, left-hand, boundary line to ensure that your journaling lines up from the top all the way to the bottom of the page.  It erases easily once you're done etching out your thoughts.
Further inspiration for this page came from Citrus Twist's July 26th Sunday Sketch, which I'll post here just as soon as it has been made available online.
You have until Sunday, August 13, 2017, to link up your takes, on this No People Challenge and/or our previous Scraplift Challenge, in the right-hand column of The Studio blog; and we'll be back with one final, July Challenge on the 30th.  Be sure to stop by the challenge link above to see how the rest of the team was inspired.  Thanks so much for stopping by!  Have a blessed week, y'all!

Poppystamps: Life Is Full of Magic

Friday, July 14, 2017

Morning, y'all!  I've got a little number, using some new goodies from the latest 2017 Holiday Release, up on the Poppystamps blog today and wanted to share it here as well.  My thought process behind this card was to make it look as though the largest of the new Jar Collection craft dies were used to collect treasures from a child's garden hunt.
I started this card by stamping a 3-1/2" x 4-3/4" piece of watercolor paper, in Tumbled Glass, Broken China, Faded Jeans, Spun Sugar, Tattered Rose, Barn Door, and Peeled Paint Distress Inks, with images from Birch Press Design's Watercolor Wildflowers stamp set.  Y'all, I just can't get enough of these gorgeous blooms.  Swoon!  I then spritzed everything with water just to fade the flowers into the background before splattering over them with watered-down Tumbled Glass and Barn Door Distress Inks, as well as Pure Black and Titanium White acrylic paints.
Once everything was dry, I stamped the "LIFE IS FULL OF magic" sentiment, from a sweet, little, new, Believe in Magic stamp set, in Jet Black ink, along the vertical left edge of the prepped piece before framing it with Pool Party cardstock and white-threaded, straight, machine stitching.
The jar itself was then die-cut from clear cardstock and filled with a Tomei Branch, die-cut from Always Artichoke cardstock; Pine Twig, die-cut from Garden Green cardstock; Ragged Daisy, die-cut from Lucky Limeade, Daffodil Delight, and white cardstocks; and the new Sugarplum Faerie, die-cut from watercolor paper.
The fairy was also painted with watercolors; and a simple button, not to mention a snippet of cheesecloth, fills the jar completely.
To secure the jar to the prepped piece without showing any adhesive, I also partially die-cut and partially hand-cut it from Going Gray and Soft Suede cardstocks to create the foundation of dirt and the lid.  It was not adhered in any other places other than the top and bottom bits.  The lid was also wrapped with a length of Baker's Twine, tied in a bow; and a die-cut, from Riding Hood Red cardstock, Stitched Butterfly, which was embellished with a single pearl and lots of Clear Wink of Stella for shimmer and shine, completes the look.
Thanks, once again, for stopping by, friends!  Be blessed!

PLS Pinterest Inspired: Shine Bright

Tuesday, July 11, 2017

Morning, y'all!  Just popping in to share a sweet page that's up on the Pretty Little Studio blog today.  I was inspired by the new Dream Big Collection, not to mention all the scrumptious angles in the Pinterest photo below, to pull a couple photos of Adina during her swimming class five years ago now, as well as to use Creative Scrappers' Five Pieces Background cut file.  Enjoy!
I started this page by using said cut file to cut a handful of yummy, different, Dream Big prints and anchored them all, to a textured, white, cardstock, base page, with bright-pink-threaded, straight, machine stitches, leaving a 1" margin around their edges.  I then applied a small amount of gesso behind where my photos, which were matted with white cardstock, would lie and topped it with lots of yellow, pink, and aqua, watercolor puddles and splatters.  After stamping several waves and water splashes in Melon Mambo ink, I splattered the entire page once again, but this time with Pure Black and Titanium White acrylic paints.  Four of the My Darling Frames, two of which were secured with a couple of simple staples...
in combination with a Beautiful Bookmark Journaling Card and snippet of cheesecloth, back my photos, the smaller of which was popped up with foam tape...
and a My Darling Die-Cut scallop, as well as the "shine bright" So Sweet Word Die Cut title, ground them.
A trio of Day Dream Die-Cut clouds, two of which were popped up with more foam tape, top the design and give that sweet, little, Spring Fling Animal Die-Cut duck a jumping off point...
and the Beautiful Bookmark Journaling Cards butterfly, not to mention a "the best smile" So Sweet Die Cut, a landing spot.
A "so sweet" My Darling Frame + Die Cuts circle, as well as an "ENJOYING OUR LIFE" Adore You Cut-Apart Word Flag, anchored with a simple button, laced with white string, completes the look.
Further inspiration for this page came from Colorful Creations' July 1st Challenge...
and here's that Pinterest photo that inspired it all.

Thanks, as always, for stopping by!  Have a terrific Tuesday, friends!

Wild About You

Friday, July 7, 2017

Morning, friends!  TGIF!  We've had such a crazy week!  The weekend won't be much better with a baseball tournament in full swing, but I'm still looking forward to relaxing and soaking up the sunshine at the ball fields.  Before the games can get started, though, we have a birthday to celebrateEzekiel turns 14 today, and I wanted to share the card I made for him.
I started this card by trimming the diagonal center of a piece of multicolored, plaid, patterned paper with a strip of denim, patterned paper and anchoring everything, to a piece of So Saffron cardstock, with white-threaded, straight, machine stitches before adhering it, with foam tape, to the white, cardstock, card face.  I then die-cut a gray, woodgrain, patterned paper tag and stamped it, in Jet Black ink, with the "wild about you HAPPY BIRTHDAY" sentiment.
Before backing the tag with cheesecloth for texture and popping it up, in the center of the card face, with foam tape, I stapled a cut-apart tab to its top right side and topped it with a stamped, in Jet Black ink, on a watercolor paper die cut, and watercolored lion.
A length of white string, laced through a white, cardstock, ring die cut, adhered to the top center of the tag itself, and tied in a bow, as well as a heap of pearl and silver star sequins, completes the look.

Inspiration for this card came from Reverse Confetti's July Sketch for You to Try.

Thanks so much for stopping by, and a big happy birthday to my growing man!  Love you bunches, Ezekiel!  Have a wonderful weekend, y'all!

June Recognition

Thursday, July 6, 2017

Hey, y'all!  I trust you're having a great week.  I'm still a little disoriented with celebrating the 4th in the middle of the week and having a less-structured, summer routine; but I think that I've finally convinced myself that tomorrow is NOT Saturday.  It is, however, the end of the first week of July; and I haven't yet shared the honor of this page being named a Winner, at The Memory Nest, last month.
Thank you so much to Leslie and her talented crew of designers for picking my page and continuing to inspire us, with their beautiful designs, month after month!  I'm humbled.  And thanks so much, to each and every one of you, for supporting me in my efforts here and beyond.  I'm one blessed girl.  XOXO

Pretty Little Studio: His & Hers

Wednesday, July 5, 2017

Morning, y'all!  Just popping in to share a couple of his and hers cards, that I made using the newest Beautiful Day Collection.  They're up on the Pretty Little Studio blog today.  Enjoy!
Let's get up close and personal.  Shall we?
I started this card by framing a woodgrain sheet from the 6x8 Paper Pad with Old Olive cardstock, as well as olive-threaded, straight, machine stitching, before adhering it, to the white, cardstock, card face, with foam tape.  I then popped an "EVERYDAY" So Lovely Bingo card up, in middle of the prepped piece, with foam tape and topped it with a couple of Happy Tickets.
The "YOU MAKE ME HAPPY" sentiment was hand-cut from our Park Bench Cut-Apart sheet and the woodgrain/olive circle, which was also popped up with foam tape, from our Perfect Day Cut-Apart sheet.
The "ADMIT TWO" Happy Ticket was then sandwiched between a woodgrain, Park Bench Alphas arrow and a couple of Greenery Die Cuts; laced with hemp twine, tied in a bow; and adhered with more foam tape.  A sprinkling of Sunsation Sequins, as well as Baby Avery Yellow Confetti Mix, completes the look.
That takes care of his part of today's duo.  Now, let's move on to hers.
I started this card by framing a polka dot/floral sheet from the 6x8 Paper Pad with Pool Party cardstock, as well as bright-pink-threaded, straight, machine stitching, before adhering it, to the white, cardstock, card face, with foam tape.  I then popped a "BEAUTIFUL" So Lovely Bingo card up, in the middle of the prepped piece, with foam tape.  A green label and "i love you" banner, both of which were hand-cut from our Park Bench Cut-Apart sheet, were then stapled to the top of the "hello" Walk in the Park Die Cut, which serves as my sentiment and was popped up with foam tape.
The sentiment itself was then flanked with a healthy dose of Colorful Blooms, some of which were also adhered with more foam tape.
A Bookmark Sprinkles butterfly and scattering of stars from our Baby Avery Yellow Confetti Mix, as well as Seaspray and Primrose Sequins, completes the look.
I couldn't resist leaving y'all without sharing these fabulous die cuts which are being given away all month long with every $25 purchase from the Pretty Little Studio shop.  Yay!  Go get yours today!
Thanks, as always, for humbling me with a visit, friends!  Be blessed!
