The Studio Create Your Own Background Challenge

Sunday, November 19, 2017

Morning, y'all!  Just popping in with our second November challenge over in The Studio.  We're asking you to create a background any way you like it this go around.  I've played with mists and paints, done some stencil work, and grounded everything with a leafy cut file for a subtle approach to the challenge.  Enjoy!
I started this page by smudging Patina Glimmer Mist onto the textured, white, cardstock, base page.  I then splattered everything with Patina, Stormy Night, and Apricot Glimmer Mists, as well as Orchard Mister Huey's and Pure Black and Titanium White acrylic paints.  Pumice Distress Ink was then smeared through a lattice stencil; and a leafy cut file, Cameo-cut from the same paper as the base page itself, sets the stage for a collection of fall prints, all anchored with gold-threaded, straight, machine stitching.  Those prints were then topped with a couple of photos, matted with white cardstock and backed with a snippet of cheesecloth.  The "grateful 4 you" title runs along the vertical, left edge of my photos.  It was created from Cameo-cut, from textured white and Barely Banana cardstocks respectively, "grateful" and "4", the latter of which was secured with more gold-threaded, straight, machine stitching, and a "you" die cut, popped up with foam tape.
Moving clockwise, a "good time" tab was stapled to the top photo, just left of vertical center...
and a floral cluster, consisting of a hand-cut black and white bloom; couple of yellow, die-cut flowers, both of which were popped up with foam tape; duo of gold-foil, die-cut leaves; die-cut label, etched with the year 2014; and an "& then", die-cut sunburst, anchors that same photo's bottom, right corner.
A couple of tags, laced with white strings, tied in bows, were tucked into a wax envelope, hanging out behind the bottom photo's right side.  The manila tag also houses my journaling, but it's a little personal; so I've chosen not to include it here.  Family can be difficult, and I may be too old fashioned for the way some people chose to spend their modern-day holidays.  It's simply not a good combination.  We're so excited to get to spend this Thanksgiving right here in Kansas City.  Woot!
A foam, glitter, "Smile" Thicker rounds the bottom right corner...
and a couple of gold-foil, die-cut, word strips, popped up with foam tape, not to mention a playful scattering of teal sequins, completes the look.
Further inspiration for this page came from Citrus Twist's November 4th 3-to-Inspire Challenge to (1) use a cut file, (2) include stitching, and (3) play with mists and/or inks...
their November 12th Sketch...
and Colorful Creations' November 15th Inspiration Board.  Obviously, the colors had me at hello; but I also couldn't resist adding flowers and gold leaves, as well as lots and lots of texture from stitching, string, and cheesecloth to glitter, gold foil, and sequins.

Be sure to stop by the challenge link above to see what my talented teammies have cooked up just for your viewing pleasure.  Then, you have until Sunday, December 3, 2017, to link up your takes, on this Create Your Own Background Challenge and/or our previous, Mirror Image Challenge, in the right-hand column of The Studio blog.  Thanks so much for stopping by!  Have a blessed week, friends!
