Pretty Little Studio: Bring on the Magic

Sunday, December 30, 2018

Morning, y'all!  With 2019 being right around the corner, I thought it fitting to create something magically paper-crafted in honor of such.  I LOVE to combine Pretty Little Studio's array of gorgeous collections; and this bitty one, which happens to be up on the Pretty Little Studio blog today, encompasses no fewer than six.
I started this card by anchoring a 5-1/4" x 4" piece of the Gold Metallic Confetti print, to my 5-1/2" x 4-1/4" white cardstock, card base, with gold-threaded, straight, machine stitching.  Using the teal Sprinkles Bookmark as a template, I then hand-cut a Celebrate 3x4 Pocket Card and "Bring on the Magic" Magic 3x4 Journaling Card to the same size.  The left side of the latter, which happens to serve as my sentiment, was dressed up with a "CELEBRATE" Party Hat Word Flag...
and "2019" Hugs & Kisses Mini ABC Stickers...
before securing all three pennants together with gold-threaded, straight, machine stitching, which frames the hand-cut bits, as well as a length of white string, tied in a bow, and popping them up, with foam tape, over a snippet of cheesecloth for texture.
A scattering of die-cut, from a happy mix of It's Your Birthday Collection prints, stars, as well as a couple handfuls of Golden and Clear Skies Sequins, completes the look.
Thanks so much for visiting!  Have a safe and memorable New Year, friends!  I'll see you next year!  XOXO

Merry Christmas!

Tuesday, December 25, 2018

From my family to yours, Merry Christmas!  And may you always remember the true reason for the season.  Blessings!
And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered.  This census first took place while Quirinius was governing Syria.  So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city.

Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child.  So it was, that while they were there the days were completed for her to be delivered.  And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night.  And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid.  Then the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people.  For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.  And this will be the sign to you:  You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger."

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!"

So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, "Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us."  And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger.  Now when they had seen Him, they made widely known the saying which was told them concerning the Child.  And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds.  But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart.  Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told them. - Luke 2:1-20

PLS: Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas

Saturday, December 22, 2018

Welcome to the weekend, y'all!  I have a page that features a little something from nearly every Christmas collection in the Pretty Little Studio Shop, for you all, today.  It just so happens to be featured on the Pretty Little Studio blog this morning and showcases my family's sweet, pet bunny, Snowflake.  Enjoy!
I started this page by adding a puddle of forest green watercolor to the left side of my 12" x 12" watercolor paper, base page and splattering it with that same shade of watercolor, as well as pink, red, and aqua watercolors.  I then smeared Peeled Paint, Barn Door, and Spun Sugar Distress Inks through a circle template before splattering everything once again, but this time with Pure Black and Titanium White, acrylic paints.  That set the stage for my photo, which was set atop a bed of the Let It Snow printed paper, hand-cut in the shape of a banner, as well as a couple of Christmas Favs 3x8 Pocket Cards, hand-cut in the same manner, and an "oh deer" Christmas Words Word Flags Cut-Apart.
All of the hand-cut banners were anchored with silver-threaded, straight, machine stitching and topped with my photo, which was matted with white cardstock; backed with a snippet of cheesecloth for additional texture; and wrapped, three times, with a length of Baker's Twine, tied in a bow.  It was also embellished with a "spread christmas cheer" 'Tis the Season Flair Button, backed with a tangle of silver thread...
and flanked with Snow & Hot Cocoa Die-Cut trees.  The tree to the left of the photo was further dressed up with a "25" Merry Christmas Circle Cut-Apart, as well as a Wood Partridge Vintage Sticker, backed with white cardstock, hand-cut out, and popped up with foam tape.
The two to the right of the photo back our Snowball Vintage Die Cut, popped up with foam tape, as well as another Wood Partridge Vintage Sticker, prepared in the same way as above.
A trio of additional Merry Christmas Circle Cut-Aparts trail off to the right side of the design, amidst a scattering of Gift Wrap, Tree Topper, and Pink Petals Sequins, which can be found throughout the design, along with a half dozen silver metallic Snowflakes Vellum Die Cuts.
A couple of "MERRY CHRISTMAS" & "UNDER THE TREE" Nice List Word Stickers...
and a Fawn Flair Button complete the look.
Don't forget to add the December 2018 Freebie Santas to your carts this month with any $35 or more purchase.
Thanks ever so much for stopping by, friends!  Have a blessed Christmas and a magical New Year!

25 Days of Christmas with Paper Sweeties

Tuesday, December 18, 2018

It's Day 19 of the 25 Days of Christmas with Paper Sweeties; and I put our new, December, Merry Christmas Y'all stamp set and its coordinating die to work to create a super sweet collection of Christmas tags that grace a trio of packages for two of my nieces and one of my nephews.  So, let's just get right to it.  Shall we?
I purchased these festive, little, cloth, drawstring bags at Target and stuffed them with my chosen gifts.  I then tied candy canes to the drawstrings of each and used the candy canes themselves as the foundations upon which my tags were built and adhered with hot glue.
I started the tags by stamping the trucks and their trees, in Jet Black ink, on watercolor paper die cuts.  Each separate image was watercolored, before I adhered the trees in the truck beds.
A little Glossy Accents gives the windows a more realistic look; and wood veneer letters (the first letter of each kiddo's first name), secured to the candy cane with Baker's Twine, tied in bows just above the trucks, complete the look.
Don't forget to continue hopping around, to visit my talented teammates and keep up to date with everything Paper Sweeties, right on through Christmas Day.
The Merry Christmas Y'all stamp set and coordinating Merry Christmas Y'all Sweet Cuts die used above are currently for sale in the Paper Sweeties Shop.  Be sure to pick yours up, while you're taking advantage of one of Debbie's generous, holiday coupons, today.
Thanks, as always, for humbling me with a visit!  Have a fabulous, last week before Christmas and an even more fantastic, Christmas day!  XOXO

Pretty Little Studio: Baby It's Cold Outside

Saturday, December 15, 2018

Welcome to the weekend, y'all!  We've already begun the Christmas festivities with my hubby's work Christmas party last night, and they're going to continue all weekend with candy making and cookie baking.  We're also having some friends over for dinner tonight, so there's plenty of cleaning and cooking to be done.  We only have three more days of school before Christmas break and can't wait to wrap up our midterm exams and begin to really enjoy the season.  Okay, enough of my excited rambling, I stopped in today to share a festive card that happens to be up on the Pretty Little Studio blog today.  It utilizes a mix of different collections, but most of what you'll recognize comes from Home for Christmas.
I started this card by anchoring a 4" x 5-1/4" piece of the Magical Lights print, to the white, cardstock, card face, with white-threaded, straight, machine stitching.  I then adhered a trio of Snowflakes Vellum Die Cuts, as well as the glittered, Home for Christmas Die-Cut fence (Tip: When adhered behind another object, cut your die cuts to extend their reach.  No one will ever know.  Shh.), across the background.  Sparkler was then popped up, in the center of the design, with foam tape.  A Wood Partridge Vintage Sticker, backed with white cardstock and hand-cut out, perches on his "MERRY CHRISTMAS" sign with foam tape.
A "baby it's cold outside" Joy Die Cut was popped up, with foam tape, just below his sign.  I love the way it brings a little of the blue from the snowflakes to the bottom of the card and balances out the colors of the design perfectly.
A trio of Home for Christmas Die-Cut snowflakes, a couple of which were popped up with foam tape, as well as the same number of With Glee Die-Cut music notes, popped up with more foam tape and given a dose of shine with Glossy Accents, complete the look.
Thanks so much for visiting!  Enjoy your weekends, friends!  XOXO

25 Days of Christmas with Paper Sweeties

Wednesday, December 12, 2018

It's Day 13 of the 25 Days of Christmas with Paper Sweeties, y'all, which means it's my turn to share an appropriately-designed creation for the holiday season.  Enjoy!
I started this card by stamping a 3-1/2" x 4-3/4" piece of watercolor paper, in Jet Black ink, with the tree and "Merry Christmas Y'all" sentiment, coincidentally from the Merry Christmas Y'all stamp set, and watercoloring the tree and the background.
The Santa and gift bag, from the Jake and Santa Claus stamp sets, were stamped, in Jet Black ink, on scraps of watercolor paper; watercolored; hand-cut out; detailed with a Gold Gelly Roll pen; and popped up, with foam tape, to the right of the stamped and watercolored tree.
The entire design was then splattered with Titanium White acrylic paint for a little "snow" effect; framed with white cardstock and white-threaded, straight, machine stitches; wrapped with a length of Baker's Twine, tied in a bow in the top right corner of the prepped piece; and popped off the surface of the white, cardstock, card face, which had been dressed up with a piece of kraft, polka dot, patterned paper, anchored with more white-threaded, straight, machine stitching, with foam tape.
I hope you're enjoying hopping along to visit all my talented teammates this month and that you'll continue to do so right through Christmas day to keep up to date with everything new from Paper Sweeties.
I'll look forward to seeing you right back here, for a little more inspiration from the December Release, Merry Christmas Y'all and its coordinating Merry Christmas Y'all Sweet Cuts die, which just so happen to be available, even as I type this, in the Paper Sweeties Shop, next week.

Until then, thanks so much for taking time out of your busy, holiday seasons to visit my little, ol' blog.  Be blessed!

For the Love of Books: Christmas

Monday, December 10, 2018

Hey, y'all!  Welcome to the work week!  I'm just stopping in with this month's For the Love of Books pick a little earlier than usual; as I also wanted to share the fantastic list of children's Christmas books that grace our own library shelves, just in case you've still got a little shopping to do.  But before I get to that, I've got a favorite, seasonal treasure for you all.  It is written for children ages four and up and simply, but beautifully, illustrated to harmonize with the sweet innocence of the story itself.
In Santa's Favorite Story, written by Hisako Aoki and illustrated by Ivan Gantschev, a group of woodland creatures find Santa sleeping under a tree.  Upon awakening, Santa explains that he went for a hike to get in shape for Christmas Eve, wore himself out, and needed to rest.  The animals are worried that Santa will be too tired to deliver all the packages.  At the same time, the fox wonders aloud, "Does that mean there won't be a Christmas anymore?"  Santa gently reassures them that Christmas doesn't have anything to do with him and finds renewed energy, to complete his work, through a retelling of his favorite story, the birth of God's son in a stable and the shepherds' celebration of the very first Christmas.

Now, on to that list.  The last two have been added since last year.
  1. A Christmas ABC by Alice Gold
  2. My First Treasury: The First Christmas by Leslie Lindecker
  3. Nate the Great and the Crunchy Christmas by Marjorie Weinman Sharmat
  4. The Pine Tree Parable by Liz Curtis Higgs (LOVE all of Liz's parable stories!)
  5. The Gift of the Magi by O. Henry (a favorite of mine)
  6. The Legend of the Poinsettia by Tomie dePaola (another favorite of mine... It never fails to bring tears to my eyes, though.)
  7. Santa's Favorite Story by Hisako Aoki (yet another favorite of mine)
  8. The Berenstain Bears Trim the Tree by Jan and Mike Berenstain
  9. Clifford Celebrates the Year: Clifford’s Christmas by Norman Bridwell
  10. Gingerbread Baby by Jan Brett
  11. God Gave Us Christmas by Lisa Tawn Bergren
  12. Winnie the Pooh: The Merry Christmas Mystery by Betty Birney
  13. The Year of the Perfect Christmas Tree by Gloria Houston (another one for which you'll need the Kleenex box)
  14. Dream Snow by Eric Carle
  15. Snow Happy to be Here: The Slightly Silly Story of the Snowblatt Family by Cheryl Hawkinson
  16. You Can Do It, Sam by Amy Hest
  17. The Dinosaurs' Night Before Christmas by Anne Muecke (super fun music CD with it)

Pretty Little Studio: Royal Christmas

Thursday, December 6, 2018

Morning, y'all!  I'm up on the Pretty Little Studio blog today, sharing a page inspired by the new Christmas Joy Collection.  The photos shown here were taken the year the Kansas City Royals won the world series, and we were ever so proud.  Everyone got new Royals gear for Christmas.
I started this page by adding two shades of blue watercolor to the 12" x 12" watercolor paper, base page.  I then splattered it with those same two shades of watercolor; rubbed Cracked Pistachio Distress Ink through the Winter Snowflakes stencil; and splattered everything once again, but this time with Pure Black and Titanium White, acrylic paints.  My main photo was then matted with white cardstock (as were all my photos); backed with bits of the Good Times Clear paper, as well as our Joy to the World and It's Christmas prints, anchored with gold-threaded, straight, machine stitching; and embellished with "JOY" and poinsettia Joy Die Cuts.  The latter was backed with a trio of die-cut, from Glorious Green cardstock, pine needles; a Joy Die-Cut, berry branch, dressed up with a little Glossy Accents; 'Tis the Season Die-Cut, holly branch; and 'Tis the Season Flair Button.
A Good Cheer Clear Shipping Tag, laced with Baker's Twine, tied in a bow, was tucked under the right side of the photo.  That same photo's bottom, right corner was dressed up with "family" and "DON'T STOP BELIEVING" Merry & Bright Die Cuts, as well as an "It's not what's under the tree..." Joy Die Cut.
A trio of Joy Die-Cut ornaments, hung from stamped, in Jet Black ink, strings; popped up with foam tape; and given a dose of shine with Glossy Accents, connect the photo groupings.
The first photo, moving left to right across the bottom of the page, was backed with two of the same prints as the main photo.  The second was backed with a piece of our Wrapping  Presents print, anchored with gold-threaded, straight, machine stitching, as well as a folded piece of With Love Vellum, and grounded with the "ROYAL christmas" title, which was created with Gold Metallic A to Z Die Cuts to spell "ROYAL" and a "christmas" Merry & Bright Die Cut, popped up with foam tape.
The final photo was backed with pieces of the It's Christmas and Christmas Stars prints, anchored with more gold-threaded, straight, machine stitching, and dressed up with the Santa #4 Vintage Die Cut, popped up with foam tape over a 'Tis the Season Die-Cut tree, to complete the look.
Thanks, as always, for humbling me with a visit, friends!  May your Christmas seasons be blessed!

Pretty Little Studio: Fall Family Fun

Saturday, November 24, 2018

Happy Saturday, y'all!  Even though Christmas has been popping up all around us for months now, I'm still relishing in the colors of fall and was inspired to use the Feels Like Fall Collection, whose embellishments just so happen to currently be 50% off, and the Free November Cut File to create this page, which just so happens to be up on the Pretty Little Studio blog today.
I started this page by adding a puddle of yellow watercolor to the 12" x 12" watercolor paper, base page and splattering it with that same color of watercolor, as well as aqua, blue, and orange watercolors and Pure Black and Titanium White, acrylic paints.  I then Cameo-cut the Free November Cut File from textured, white cardstock and filled in all the negative spaces with prints from Feels Like Fall, including bits of the Feeling Thoughtful and Feeling Warm Gold Metallic Vellums, as well as one print from the Oakley Avenue Collection, Cross My Heart, and some solid vellum.
Once the cut file was adhered over the mixed media background, I added my photos, which were matted with white cardstock, in a haphazard stack, just right of vertical center.  The top photo was crowned with the hand-penned Oct. 17, 2015, date and embellished with a sketchy heart, from the Orchard Words die-cut package, popped up with foam tape and topped with a Weathered Frames + Die-Cut arrow.
Moving toward the bottom of the page, the second photo was dressed up with a couple of "perfection" and "hello fall" phrases, from the Fall Phrases Cut-Apart Sheet, popped up with foam tape.
The final photo was backed with a snippet of cheesecloth for texture; embellished with a "sweater weather" Fall Phrases Die-Cut, popped up with foam tape, and a Foxy Fall Flair Button...
and grounded with a "let's get together" Blue Fall Word Sticker, backed with white cardstock, hand-cut out, and popped up with foam tape.
The "thankful and blessed" tag came from the Oct/Nov 2018 Freebie, with any $24 or more purchase from the shop, and was laced with Baker's Twine, tied in a bow, and adhered sandwiched between the final photo and the "FALL family FUN" title.  The title itself was created with a "FALL" Weathered Frames + Die-Cuts and a Family Fun Acrylic Shape, backed with a bit of the Feeling Creative print.
A Spring Fling Animal Die-Cut adds a touch of cuteness, and a scattering of Snowcone Sequins completes the look.  I had several more pictures from this trip, with my cousin and his family, to Worlds of Fun; but I didn't care to do a two-page design this go around.  So, I added the remainder of the photos, to my album, in a pocket page beside this layout.  Because I had too much to say about our day to fit it onto this particular design, the pocket page also includes my type-written journaling.
Thanks, as always, for visiting, friends!  I hope you all had a blessed Thanksgiving and are enjoying the Christmas season.  Hugs!
