Pretty Little Studio: Capture Adventures

Saturday, April 28, 2018

Welcome, once again, to the weekend, y'all!  I've plans to check a few home improvement projects off my list; but before I can get to that, I'm up on the Pretty Little Studio blog, sharing a page inspired by Maryam Perez's Sweet Life Collection.  I'd love to share it here, too.  Enjoy!
I started this page by adding teal and green, watercolor puddles to the 12" x 12" watercolor paper, base page; splattering it with those same watercolors, as well as yellow and bright pink watercolors; stamping it, in Jet Black ink, with a few vintage bricks; and splattering it once again, but this time with Pure Black and Titanium White acrylic paints.  That set the stage for my photos, which were matted with white cardstock; backed with a large snippet of cheesecloth; and mounted in a sloppy, grid design.  The top, right corner of that grid was filled with a Life Is Beautiful 3x4 Pocket Card, topped with a My Story Die Cut, popped up with foam tape, to create the "capture adventures" title and used to house my journaling.  My journaling reads, Newlin Family, Enjoying a picnic lunch & play time in the park after our visit to Bass Pro Shops & before we're off to Ozark Family Adventure @ Tan-Tar-A Resort.  These are my favorite moments!  7-26-10, Springfield, MO.
The bottom, right corner of my journaling reveals a cluster of Flower Garden, Cupcake Party, and Life Is Beautiful Die-Cut flowers, some of which were popped up with foam tape.
A couple of additional, floral die cuts trail down the right side of the page amidst "hanging out" and "enjoy life" Cupcake Party Die Cuts and a "smile" My Story Die Cut.
A "CURRENTLY" My Story Die Cut, popped up with foam tape, rounds out the right side of the design and moves us to...
the secondary, floral cluster on the left.  The flowers in this cluster come from the Flower Garden and So Sweet Die-Cut packages.
A So Sweet Die-Cut tag, laced with white string, tied in a bow, and "LOVE" pennant, secured with a simple staple, trim the left side of my final photograph; and a "this is my favorite" So Sweet Die Cut, popped up with foam tape, in addition to a couple of flower, as well as branch, Live Simply Clear Stickers and trio of Pink Frosting Sequins completes the look.
I adore all the different flower arrangements in this collection; and while flowers tend to say spring and summer, they also work brilliantly for a number of different occasions that are celebrated all year round.  Thanks, as always, for humbling me with a visit, friends!  Have a blessed weekend!  XOXO

Friday Faves

Friday, April 27, 2018

Evening, y'all!  Just taking a break from painting to bring you all this month's Friday Faves.  It's a short list, as I've had my hands extra full lately.  Although, my April 2017 Friday Faves post was super short, too.  So, maybe April is just a slow release month for papercraft manufacturers.  No doubt, they're always busy behind the scenes, though.  Anyhow, without further adieu, let's kick things off with Sunny Studio's darling, Party Pups stamp set.  I'm a dog lover, so these cutie patooties already have my heart.  AND I adore those punny, but super useful, phrases.  I already have a million ideas for how to use these, not to mention who to use them for, floating around in my head.
But if Party Pups doesn't quite float your boat, try Devoted Doggies on for size.  Too fun!
I know that the Fourth of July isn't for awhile yet; but I oohed and aahed right out loud when I saw Photo Play's Red, White, & Blue 12x12 Collection and couldn't help but share it right away.  What a fabulous mix of prints, boasting the red, white, and blues; and I love how the cardstock stickers speak right to our nation's history.  Swoon!
Finally, and because my garden seedlings are anxiously awaiting a spare minute to make it to my beds, I had to include these Vintage Spoon Herb Garden Markers from Sycamore Hill.  So pretty!  Need I say more?
That does it, for this month, folks.  I'll be back, before the sun comes up again, with my final, Pretty Little Studio page of the month; and I'm still working on this month's For the Love of Books post to finish the month out right.  Thanks so much for taking a minute to stop by my little corner of the web!  Enjoy your last weekend of April, friends!  Hugs!

Now Designing for Sketchabilities

Thursday, April 26, 2018

We're back late from the ballfields tonight, and I'm exhausted; but that doesn't mean that I'm any less excited to announce that I get to be a part of the newly-revived Sketchabilities Design Team!  Eeek!
You can read the announcement here.  Karan has put together a fantastic group of designers from all over the world, and that post will give you direct access to their blogs and creativity.  We're already stirring up our creatives juices for the first sketch, which will go live on Friday, June 15, 2018; and we'd love to have YOU come join in the fun!

Kitchen Reno: Part 4

Tuesday, April 24, 2018

Hey, y'all!  I thought that I'd better pop back in to give you an update on our kitchen renovation.  Although it has gone much slower than anticipated, with all the manufacture delays, as well as Ezekiel starting his summer, baseball season and Adina playing softball this year, which she adores; but between the two of them, we're busy three to four evenings a week...
not to mention having to replace the main waterline to our home, it's nearly complete.  Matter of fact, the next time I post will be the finished kitchen; but I wanted to get you up to speed to this point.
I have a dishwasher...
and beautiful, apron-front sink...
now that the new countertop has been installed.
Both are complete with running water.  Y'all, I don't know how I got along for 13 years without a dishwasher.  I have so much extra time; that I've taken two bubble baths, since it was installed.  LOL!
I also sewed up a vintage skirt for my sink and have organized my cupboards top to bottom.
My ugly pantry got a fresh coat of white paint...
complete with extra organization...
and labels; but it's still awaiting its new doors.
That refrigerator depth cabinet finally arrived and has been installed with both side panels to boot.  It just needs hardware.
And finally, my beadboard backsplash is going up.
It will be finished before this post even goes live and cover this entire wall, as we also have some open shelving going up to the right of our new window, which, as you can see, finally opens.  So, we're letting in the cool, spring air.  Woohoo!
I'm loving every bit of it!  It's ever so much more functional, bright, and happy than before.  It's totally been worth all the headaches and smashed fingers.  Right, honey?!  I think that I've still got to convince him of such; but he hasn't washed a single dish, since that dishwasher was installed.  AND he got a homemade, apple crisp on Sunday.  So, I'd say that I'm well on my way.  He just needs a little time to forget all the chaos ;).  Thanks so much for checking in!  Have a wonderful week, friends!

Pretty Little Studio: Party Time

Saturday, April 21, 2018

Morning, y'all!  Welcome to the weekend!  I'm up on the Pretty Little Studio blog today, playing with Claudia's newest It's Your Birthday Collection and pics of my oldest's 12th birthday.  Check out the results.
I started this page by adding a large puddle of blue watercolor to the 12" x 12" watercolor paper, base page.  I then splattered it with that same shade of watercolor, as well as yellow and pink watercolors; rubbed three columns of Pumice Stone Distress Ink, across the background, through a vertically-placed, chevron stencil; stamped it, in Jet Black ink, with different-size, open, star images; and splattered it once again, but this time with Pure Black and Titanium White acrylic paints.  That set the stage for a handful of It's Your Birthday and Sweet Life prints, all placed vertically over the background and anchored with silver-threaded, straight, machine stitching, as well as my photos, which were matted with white cardstock.  A trio of white, glitter, paper, die-cut stars, tucked here and there, add a little sparkle.  My top, right photo was then backed with a couple of Cookies Shipping Tags, laced with white string, tied in a bow and knot respectively.  I also popped "celebrate" and star Eat Cake Word Die Cuts up, near its top and bottom edges, with foam tape.
An "it's your day" Party Hat Word Flag, anchored with a pink button, laced with white string, grounds the bottom, right photo...
and a couple of Eat Cake Word Die-Cut phrases round out the corner.
The bottom, left photograph was dressed up with a row of candles from Ezekiel's family party.  The color of those candles couldn't have matched this collection more perfectly, if it had been planned.  I wrapped them with a couple of connected Sweet Treats Cut-Apart Labels, as well as a length of white string, tied in a bow.
The bold, "PARTY time", Shine Bright Die-Cut title grounds the entire design.
One final Sweet Treats Cut-Apart Label, etched with the Tuesday, July 7th, 2015 - 12 yrs. information, as well as a scattering of Shining Star Stickers and 4mm and 8mm Crystal Sequins, completes the look.
Thanks so much for humbling me with a visit!  Have an amazing weekend, friends!

Paper Sweeties April Release Rewind

Sunday, April 15, 2018

Hello again, friends!  Just popping back in for the third and final day of Paper Sweeties' April Release week.  As a reminder, we're showing off creations, boasting the brand spankin' new Sweeties Pets Sweet Cuts dies, which are now available in the shop.  Go get 'em, while they're hot!
I started this card by adding a puddle of green watercolors, as well as watercolor splatters, to a 3-3/4" x 5" piece of watercolor paper.  I then stamped it, in Pumice Stone and Jet Black inks respectively, with the rows of paw prints and the "You make me Smile" sentiment from So Sweet of You.
Everything was then splattered, once again, but this time with Pure Black and Titanium White acrylic paints before being framed with Wild Wasabi cardstock and green-threaded, straight, machine stitches.  I then wrapped the prepped piece, near horizontal center, with a length of Green Apple seam binding ribbon; tied it, in a double bow, near the right edge of the card face; and embellished it with a green button, laced with a length of white string, tied in a bow, before popping the prepped piece up, with foam tape, in the center of the white, cardstock, card face.
The puppy was then stamped, in Jet Black ink, on an A Friend Is, watercolor, frame die cut, which had been stamped, in Wild Wasabi ink, with the frame itself, and watercolored.  A little, white, Jelly Roll pen detailing preps it for the card face to which it was adhered with foam tape and just to the left of the embellished bow.  The puppy's bowl and ball were both stamped, in Jet Black ink, on their coordinating, watercolor paper die cuts; watercolored; and popped up, with foam tape, within the frame, to complete the look.
That does it for this month, folks; but we'll all be back again the same time next month.  Thanks, as always, for all of your visits!  Have a terrific, work week!  Hugs!

Paper Sweeties April Release Party

Saturday, April 14, 2018

Welcome back, y'all!  I hope you're all enjoying your weekends!  I got all that painting done, that I mentioned in an earlier post, and am thrilled to be on to the next step of our kitchen renovation.  I'll post another update soon for those of you who have been diligently following along; but for now, I've got another creation to share for Paper Sweeties' April Release of the Sweeties Pets Sweet Cuts die.  Here goes!
I started this card by layering a "LOVE LIFE" journaling card over a torn piece of pink, heart, patterned paper, which was, in turn, layered over a piece of aqua, stripe, patterned paper.  All the papers were then anchored, to the white, cardstock, card face, with pink-threaded, straight and zig-zag, machine stitching.  Emma was then stamped, in Jet Black ink, on watercolor paper; watercolored; hand-cut out; and dressed in a stamped, in Jet Black ink, and hand-cut, fruity nightgown.  She was then detailed with a white, Jelly Roll pen, as well as Glossy Accents for her hair ties and Dazzling Diamonds for her bunny slippers and nightgown trim, and popped up, with foam tape, just to the right of the "LOVE LIFE" phrase.  The darling, Sweeties Pets kitten was stamped, in Jet Black ink, on a watercolor paper die cut; watercolored; also detailed with a white, Jelly Roll pen; and popped up, with foam tape, at Emma's feet.
The "Happiness is... You" sentiment, from Sweeties Pets and I Love You, was stamped, in Jet Black ink, on a pink label and adhered just to the right of Emma and above her kitten.
A length of Bubblegum seam binding ribbon, wrapped around the top of the card face; tied in a double bow; and embellished with a lone pearl, backed with a length of Baker's Twine, tied in a bow, completes the look.
I hope to see you back, at the same time and place, tomorrow for one more day of Sweeties Pets goodness.  In the meantime, be sure to pop in to visit the rest of this talented team.  Thanks, as always, for humbling me with a visit!  XOXO

Pretty Little Studio: Easter Ears

Morning, y'all!  I'm up on the Pretty Little Studio blog today, sharing a page boasting a newer collection, XOXO; and I'd love to share it, with you all here, too.  Enjoy!
I started this page by adding puddles of aqua and purple watercolors to the 12" x 12" watercolor paper, base page.  I then splattered it with those same shades of watercolor, as well as pink and yellow watercolors and Pure Black and Titanium White, acrylic paints.  The XOXO cut file freebie was Cameo-cut from textured, white cardstock and adhered over the background to set the stage for my photos, which were matted with white cardstock.  The top, right photo was also backed with a folded piece of Hugs & Kisses Rose Gold Metallic Vellum and embellished with a Sweet Life Flair Button, backed with a tangle of green thread.
Just below that, I layered a couple of Love Today 3x4 Journaling Cards, cut to size, over pieces of the 1+1 and Forever 2 prints, securing a couple bits, from the stack, with green-threaded, straight, machine stitches.  A "hey" Hello Lovely Word Die Cut and "SWEET THING" February 2018 Freebie were popped up, with foam tape, around the "HUG HARDER..." journaling card...
and a couple of Love Word Flags, laced with white string, tied in a bow and knot respectively, flank its right side.
My second photo was popped up, with foam tape, over another cut-to-size Love Today 3x4 Journaling Card, a piece of the I'm Yours print, and a snippet of cheesecloth for texture.  A Darling Journaling Die-Cut Tag was etched with Adina and Snowflake '16, tucked under its left side, and secured with a single staple; before the papers behind my photo were anchored with green-threaded, straight, machine stitching.
A "today was a good one" A Great Day Flag Sticker grounds this final photo.
Another Love Today 3x4 Journaling Card was cut to size; backed with a piece of the Always print; topped with a piece of Heart Eyes Clear paper; secured, in the top, left corner of the page, with more green-threaded, straight, machine stitching...
and crowned with the "EASTER EARS", Love Story Green Alphabet Stickers title to complete the look.
Before I'm off to get some painting done around our house, I also wanted to share our April Freebie with any $24 or more purchase.  So soft and sweet and deliciously seasonal!  Yay!
Thanks so much for stopping by!  Have a terrific weekend, friends!
