For the Love of Books

Wednesday, October 31, 2018

Morning, friends!  Here I am bringing you this month's For the Love of Books pick on the very last day of the month yet again.  I never mean to do it that way.  My kiddos just keep me running day and night.  Sometimes, I have to send them out of the house, with their dad, just to get a moment of peace and maintain my sanity.  Today, I was able to steal a few moments, as the sun was rising and while my littles were still snoring away, to sneak in a review of a precious book about discovering one's passion and all the alluring uncertainties that come with it.  It is written for children ages five to eight, and its colored-pencil illustrations can't be beat.
Henry Holton Takes the Ice, written by Sandra Bradley and illustrated by Sara Palacios, is the story of a young boy, named Henry, growing up in a family that is "hockey mad".  He "teethed on hockey pucks, and the moment he could toddle his parents bought him a pair of skates."  Skating came naturally to Henry, "but when Dad handed Henry a stick... suddenly, Henry's feet were in a muddle."  He was a menace to hockey and an embarrassment to his family but, with the help of Grandma's old, figure skates, is able to convince Dad to buy him a boy's, right-size pair of skates with picks and become "one fine ice dancer".

Thanks so much for stopping by!  I'd love to know what you're reading, too.  Just leave me a note in the comments below, and we'll be sure to add your recommendation(s) to our library lists.  Be blessed!

Word Art Wednesday

Monday, October 29, 2018

Afternoon, y'all!  I trust you all had a wonderful weekend.  We spent a good chunk of ours planting grass and refinishing an old dining room table that was passed down to me from my great aunt.  It's been a lot of work; but it's going to be beautiful, when all is said and done.  I can't wait!  Anyhow, I just wanted to stop in to share that Pretty Little Studio is sponsoring the Anything Goes Challenge, over at Word Art Wednesday, with a fabulous, little package of Christmas goodies.
You can use this challenge's free scripture/word art file, but it is not required in order to play.
The challenge ends next Tuesday, November 6, 2018.  Go play along!  Good luck, and have a blessed week!

Pretty Little Studio: Swing Into Spring

Saturday, October 27, 2018

Morning, y'all!  Just popping in to share a page that's up on the Pretty Little Studio blog this am.  For a number of reasons, I've been feeling melancholy lately.  I decided that I needed to bring a little sunshine back into my day and figured that there truly was no better way to do so than with some papercraft therapy and our Sunny Memories Collection.  Enjoy!
I started this page by smudging and splattering Aquamarine Glimmer Mist, onto the Savannah Dreams 12x12 Paper Pack grid, behind where my photos would lie.  Once it was dry, I inked Spun Sugar Distress Ink through a heart stencil and outlined the edges with a Black PITT artist pen, before splattering everything once again, but this time with Pure Black and Titanium White acrylic paints.  That set the stage for my photos, which were all matted with white cardstock and adhered in a grid design.  Beginning in the top, left corner, I backed my photo with a piece of the Squiggle Wiggle print, anchored with turquoise-threaded, straight, machine stitching.  A "march" Get Tabbed Die Cut was tucked under its left side...
and a Bright & Happy Die-Cut Tag, laced with white string, tied in a bow, under its top.  A "SWING INTO SPRING" Sunny Mix Die Cut, which was popped up with foam tape, serves as my title.
Moving clockwise, a Learn to Fly Pocket Card was stitched into the top, right quadrant; used for a little journaling; and embellished, above...
and below, with a combination of Sunny Mix Die Cuts and Floral Bits Stickers, as well as a few die-cut, from white cardstock, leaves.
A "PLAY OUTSIDE" Sunny Mix Die Cut, popped up with foam tape, rounds the second photo, which was backed with our Night Shade and Straight to the Sun prints, anchored with turquoise-threaded, machine stitching, as well as a torn piece of Giggle Squiggle Vellum.
Another group of Sunny Mix Die Cuts; Floral Bits Stickers; and die-cut, floral leaves, in addition to a Sunny Feelings Flair Button, backed with a tangle of turquoise thread, grounds the design.
A "LET'S GO OUTSIDE" Fresh Phrases Die Cut dresses up the final photo, which was backed with the Coloring Bits and Almost Rainbow prints, both anchored with more turquoise-threaded, straight, machine stitching, as well as a snippet of cheesecloth for texture.  A scattering of Happy Floral Outlines Clear Stickers and Snow Fall Sequins completes the look.
I'm feeling better already ;).  Thanks, as always, for stopping by!  Have a wonderful weekend, friends!

Pretty Little Studio: Sunny Memories Tags

Saturday, October 20, 2018

Welcome to the weekend, y'all!  I'm up on the Pretty Little Studio blog this morning, sharing a trio of colorful tags, boasting one of our newer collections, Sunny Memories; and I'd love to share it here, with you all, too.  Enjoy!
As soon as I saw the 4" x 2" Swatch Paper Pack, I knew they'd make the perfect tags.  So, I went to work rounding their top corners, just to make them more tag-like, and punching holes, surrounded by more colorful prints from that same 4" x 2" Swatch Paper Pack, in their top centers.  I then focused in on the details of each one, beginning with the one on the far left in the row above.
I continued this tag by lacing a length of white string, which was quickly tied in a bow, through that punched hole mentioned above...
and adding an aqua Get Tabbed Die Cut, topped with heart and "happiness" A Birdy Told Me Black Word Stickers, to its left edge.
An "ENJOY THE LITTLE THINGS" Fresh Phrase Die Cut was adhered in the bottom, right corner...
and a trio of goodies, including a Sunny Mix Die-Cut blossom, backed with a tangle of turquoise thread and popped up with foam tape; hand-cut, from the Coloring Bits, patterned print, flower; and "YOU ARE loved" Sunny Feelings Flair Button, popped up with more foam tape, dresses up its center.  A sprinkling of Primrose Mix Sequins completes the look...
and turns our attention to the center tag in the trio above.
I also laced the punched hole in this tag with a length of white string, tied in a bow.
I then stapled both a Sunny Mix Die-Cut pennant and "START EVERY DAY WITH A SMILE" Fresh Phrases Die-Cut in the top, left corner...
and a Get Tabbed Die Cut, topped with a "small details matter" A Birdy Told Me Black Word Sticker, to its right side.
A Sunny Mix Die-Cut potted plant, backed with a tangle of turquoise thread; popped up with foam tape; and topped with a "HEY THERE" Sunny Mix Die-Cut, popped up with more foam tape, as well as a handful of Seaspray Sequins, completes the look...
and finally directs us to the the third and final tag from above.
In sticking with what works, the punched hole in this tag was also laced with white string, tied in a bow.
A "today" Get Tabbed Die Cut was stapled to is right edge...
and its center was embellished with a handful of branches and flowers from the Sunny Mix Die Cuts package, backed with a tangle of turquoise thread and surrounding a "TIPTOW THROUGH THE FLOWERS" Fresh Phrases Die Cut, popped up with foam tape.  Most of the flowers were also popped up with foam tape, and all of the flowers had a little Glossy Accents added to their centers.  A quartet of Sunsational Sequins completes the look.
Thanks so much for humbling me with a visit!  Have a fantastic weekend, friends!

Paper Sweeties October Release Rewind

Monday, October 15, 2018

Welcome back, y'all!  We're wrapping up Paper Sweeties' October Release week today with final projects, boasting more of what both of our new, fall-inspired, stamp sets, I'm Nuts About You and Happy Fall Y'all, can do.  Enjoy!
I started this card by stamping a variety of fall-themed sentiments and images, on a 4-7/8" x 3-5/8" piece of watercolor paper, in Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight, Crumb Cake, Chocolate Chip, Brocade Blue, and Jet Black inks respectively.
I then watercolored and gave the images a little bit of shine with Clear Wink of Stella before splattering everything with coordinating colors of watercolor, as well as Titanium White acrylic paint.
Once the prepped piece was dry, it was framed with both Daffodil Delight cardstock and gold threaded, straight, machine stitching; adhered to the white, cardstock, card face; and dressed up with a trio of buttons, laced with white string.
That does it, for this month, Paper Sweeties fans.  Be sure to visit my talented teammates today, too.  We cannot wait to see how you put these darling, new, stamp sets to work and humbly thank you for your continued support.  Be blessed!

Sketchabilities #154 October Reveal

Sunday, October 14, 2018

Welcome back, y'all!  Just stopping back in to share a brand new, sketch challenge from Sketchabilities.  Let's just get right to it.
I started this page by adding a little, white gesso to the pine, polka dot, base page.  I don't usually choose such a dark background to begin with; but the striking mountain scene, behind those polka dots, fit my photograph perfectly.  And I adore the end result!  Once that was dry, I topped it with a trio of prints, all anchored with gold-threaded, straight, machine stitching, as well as my photograph, which was matted with white cardstock and backed with a snippet of cheesecloth for texture.  I also tucked a couple of tickets, both of which were laced with white string, tied in a bow and knot respectively, under the right side of the paper stack, before using one of them to etch the Mount Rushmore, South Dakota, location.
The "PRESENT & in awe", die-cut title was popped up, with foam tape and over a cluster of hand-cut, from a patterned print, blossoms, in the bottom, right corner of the design.
The opposite corner received a slightly smaller dose of that same hand-cut, patterned, floral print, topped with a "WANDER THIS WAY", die-cut arrow, popped up with foam tape, and "VAYCAY" flair button, backed with a tangle of gold thread.
A "PHOTO RECORD" Sept. 28, 2011, cardstock sticker and scattering of gold and mustard die-cut and wood veneer stars complete the look.
Here's your October Sketch #154 to get you off and creating in the right direction.
I'm so sad to announce that this is Sketchabilities final challenge.  Karan is super busy with a new, life adventure; and there hasn't been quite the support for this reboot as we all had hoped.  Please don't let that discourage you from using this gorgeous design to inspire one more page for your albums, though.  We can't wait to see what you all cook up!  To be considered for the Featured Designer spot, you must add your entry to the linky by November 10, 2018.  Thanks so much for stopping by; and have a blessed Sunday, friends!

Paper Sweeties October Release Party

Welcome back, Paper Sweeties friends!  I'm showing off a little more of one of our two new, October Release, stamp sets today, I'm Nuts About You.  I just love how both of these new stamp sets simply ooze with the essence of fall.
I started this card by adhering both an aqua polka dot and maroon, gingham, patterned print to the white, cardstock, card face.  I then overlaid them with partial pieces of die-cut, using our Scallop Squares Sweet Cuts die, vellum scallops, just for a little added interest and texture, before anchoring everything with gold-threaded, straight, machine stitching.  The built-in frame, on the gingham paper, was then stamped, in Jet Black ink, with the "I'm nuts about YOU!" sentiment and surrounded with a scattering of stamped, in Jet Black ink, on watercolor paper; watercolored; and hand-cut acorns.  One of those acorns was popped up with foam tape, and they all were given a hint of shine with Glossy Accents.
I then set the prepped piece aside to work on JakeJake was stamped, in Jet Black ink, on watercolor paper; watercolored; hand-cut out; dressed with hand-cut, from patterned prints, clothing; detailed with a white, Gelly Roll pen; and popped up, with foam tape, just to the left of the stamped sentiment and over the cluster of acorns.
A length of Tea seam binding ribbon, tied in a double bow and embellished with a wood veneer button, laced with a length of white string, tied in a bow, as well as a scattering of Gold sequins, completes the look.
Thanks again for stopping by!  Don't forget to visit my teammates, too; and we'll all be back tomorrow, at the same time and places, to wrap up October Release week and send you on your creative ways.  Until then, have an amazing start to your work weeks!

Paper Sweeties October Release Sneak Peek

Saturday, October 13, 2018

Evening, y'all; and welcome to Paper Sweeties' October Release week!  We're super excited to be showing off two new, fall-inspired, stamp sets, I'm Nuts About You and Happy Fall Y'all, this month.  So, without further adieu, let's just get right to it.
I started this card by stamping a 5" x 3-3/4" piece of watercolor paper, in Jet Black ink, with Abigail and masked her off to stamp the clouds, large pumpkin, and apple basket in the same color of ink.  Abigail was then watercolored; dressed with hand-cut, from patterned prints, pants and poncho; and detailed with Glossy Accents, a white Gelly Roll pen, and resin flower.
The apples were watercolored; given a healthy dose of shine with Glossy Accents; and surrounded with a hand-cut, woodgrain, patterned, paper basket.  The large pumpkin, as well as a small pumpkin, which was stamped in Jet Black ink and popped up with foam tape, and both clouds, were paper-pieced.
The entire prepped piece was then matted with Pool Party cardstock before stamping the "Autumn Wishes & Pumpkin Kisses" sentiment, in Jet Black StazOn ink, on a hand-cut, vellum pennant and securing it, in the top, left corner of the design, with aqua-threaded, straight, machine stitching, running all the way around the outside edges of the watercolored piece and being tied, in a bow, just to the right of the sentiment pennant itself.  A little foam tape lifts the prepped piece off the surface of the white, cardstock, card face and completes the look.
That gets us started, friends; but we still have so much more to share.  Be sure to visit all my talented teammies today, and we hope to see you back at the same time and place tomorrow.  Thanks, as always, for your visits!  Have a sensational day!

Pretty Little Studio: Life Is a Gift

Thursday, October 11, 2018

Morning, friends!  I'm still playing with the Savannah Dreams Collection on the Pretty Little Studio blog today; and I'd love to share the bold, bright, happy result here, too.  Enjoy!
I started this page by adding a little gesso and watercolor to the Pretty Meadow 12" x 12" base page.  I then matted my photos with white cardstock and adhered them over two different torn strips (front and back) of the Laugh All Day 12" x 12" print.  One of those prints was anchored over the other with black-threaded, straight, machine stitching.  I then filled the space between two of my photos with a Cherish Today 3x4 Pocket Card, which serves as my "Life Is a Gift" title and was both popped up with foam tape and topped with a Happy Place Die-Cut bird.
Floral Fantasy Die Cuts were tucked under both the top and bottom, left-side corners of the pocket card.  The top, left corner was further embellished with a Carefree Flair Button, backed with a tangle of black thread; "YOU ARE SO SPECIAL" Floral Fantasy Die Cut, popped up with foam tape; and a playful mix of Happy Place and Floral Fantasy Die-Cut blossoms.
A "beautiful life" Floral Fantasy Die Cut, popped up with foam tape; Label It Die Cut, etched with the Memorial Day, Monday, May 28, 2012, date; and trio of A Birdy Told Me and All Together Word Stickers ground the design.
A trail of Happy Place and Floral Fantasy Die-Cut flowers, as well as a scattering of Pink Frosting Sequins, complete the look.
Thanks, as always, for humbling me with a visit!  Be blessed!

Pretty Little Studio: You Are My Sunshine

Wednesday, October 3, 2018

Happy Wednesday, y'all; and just because I haven't said so here in blogland already, welcome to October!  A month from now, Adina will be hitting double digits.  So, I tapped into one of the newest, Pretty Little Studio collections, Savannah Dreams, to make her a birthday card that's just as playful as she is.  Enjoy!
I started this card by anchoring a piece of the Embrace Joy patterned print, with gold-threaded, straight, machine stitching, to the white, cardstock, card face.  I then used that same thread to secure a Best Ever Frame Die Cut in the center of a Just Relax 3x4 Pocket Card; dressed their top left edge up with a Best Ever Frame Die-Cut tab, housing a "beautiful" word sticker from the 12x12 Paper Pack; and popped the result up, with foam tape, in the center of the card face.
I then popped a "you are my SUNSHINE" Happy Place Die-Cut sentiment, which was given a little shimmer and shine with Dazzling Diamonds, up in the center of the combination pocket card/frame...
and tucked a Best Ever Frame Die-Cut tag behind it.  The tag itself was laced with white string, tied in a bow, and split in two to elongate it behind the sentiment.  A Happy Place Die-Cut bird, popped up with foam tape, dresses up the top right corner.
A Happy Place Die-Cut kitten, popped up with more foam tape and tucked into the bottom right corner of my design, completes the look.
Thanks, as always, for humbling me with a visit!  Have a blessed fall, friends!
