Pretty Little Studio: Fall Family Fun

Saturday, November 24, 2018

Happy Saturday, y'all!  Even though Christmas has been popping up all around us for months now, I'm still relishing in the colors of fall and was inspired to use the Feels Like Fall Collection, whose embellishments just so happen to currently be 50% off, and the Free November Cut File to create this page, which just so happens to be up on the Pretty Little Studio blog today.
I started this page by adding a puddle of yellow watercolor to the 12" x 12" watercolor paper, base page and splattering it with that same color of watercolor, as well as aqua, blue, and orange watercolors and Pure Black and Titanium White, acrylic paints.  I then Cameo-cut the Free November Cut File from textured, white cardstock and filled in all the negative spaces with prints from Feels Like Fall, including bits of the Feeling Thoughtful and Feeling Warm Gold Metallic Vellums, as well as one print from the Oakley Avenue Collection, Cross My Heart, and some solid vellum.
Once the cut file was adhered over the mixed media background, I added my photos, which were matted with white cardstock, in a haphazard stack, just right of vertical center.  The top photo was crowned with the hand-penned Oct. 17, 2015, date and embellished with a sketchy heart, from the Orchard Words die-cut package, popped up with foam tape and topped with a Weathered Frames + Die-Cut arrow.
Moving toward the bottom of the page, the second photo was dressed up with a couple of "perfection" and "hello fall" phrases, from the Fall Phrases Cut-Apart Sheet, popped up with foam tape.
The final photo was backed with a snippet of cheesecloth for texture; embellished with a "sweater weather" Fall Phrases Die-Cut, popped up with foam tape, and a Foxy Fall Flair Button...
and grounded with a "let's get together" Blue Fall Word Sticker, backed with white cardstock, hand-cut out, and popped up with foam tape.
The "thankful and blessed" tag came from the Oct/Nov 2018 Freebie, with any $24 or more purchase from the shop, and was laced with Baker's Twine, tied in a bow, and adhered sandwiched between the final photo and the "FALL family FUN" title.  The title itself was created with a "FALL" Weathered Frames + Die-Cuts and a Family Fun Acrylic Shape, backed with a bit of the Feeling Creative print.
A Spring Fling Animal Die-Cut adds a touch of cuteness, and a scattering of Snowcone Sequins completes the look.  I had several more pictures from this trip, with my cousin and his family, to Worlds of Fun; but I didn't care to do a two-page design this go around.  So, I added the remainder of the photos, to my album, in a pocket page beside this layout.  Because I had too much to say about our day to fit it onto this particular design, the pocket page also includes my type-written journaling.
Thanks, as always, for visiting, friends!  I hope you all had a blessed Thanksgiving and are enjoying the Christmas season.  Hugs!

For the Love of Books

Monday, November 19, 2018

Morning, y'all!  Just stopping in to share this month's For the Love of Books pick in time for Thursday's Thanksgiving holiday.  It is written for children ages four to eight and sweetly enhanced by warm, watercolor, animal illustrations.
Thanksgiving Day Thanks, written by Laura Malone Elliott and illustrated by Lynn Munsinger, tells the story of Mrs. Wright's class' preparations for their Thanksgiving feast.  From dressing up like the pilgrims and Squanto and decorating their classroom to baking pies and utilizing a yarn turkey to hold paper feathers boasting all the things they were thankful for, everyone was ready for their special day, everyone except Sam.  As Sam watched all his classmates prepare their projects and get excited for their celebration, his anxiety only grew.  He couldn't figure out a project to share or what one thing he was thankful for.  When the day of the feast finally arrives, Sam reveals his favorite part of the holiday with his own version of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.  A storm, however, threatens to blow his project away and challenges his best friend to use her archery preparations to shoot a rubber-suction-headed arrow and save one of the enormous balloons.  The whole near-catastrophe leads to Sam's realization of what he's most thankful for:  time spent with family and precious friends.

Thanks for reading; and may your Thanksgiving celebrations be full of all the things you're most thankful for this holiday season, too.  Hugs!

Pretty Little Studio: Doughnut Happy

Saturday, November 17, 2018

Welcome to the weekend, y'all!  I'm up on the Pretty Little Studio blog today with a page inspired by the Sweet Life Collection.  Check it out!
I started this page by splattering the Inner Artist 12x12 background print (I adore this paper!) with Pure Black and Titanium White acrylic paints.  I then stitched around its outside edges with colored embroidery floss to coordinate with the changes of color in the print.
That set the stage for my photos, which were all matted with white cardstock.  The top photo was also backed with our Rose Bed and Crazy Lines prints, anchored with gold-threaded, straight, machine stitching; wrapped with a length of white string, tied in a bow; and embellished with an "I {heart} THIS" All Together Word Sticker.
Moving from top to bottom, the second photo was backed with the Rainbow print, anchored with more gold-threaded, straight, machine stitching; and the space between it and the top photo was dressed up with an "XOXO" So Sweet Die Cut, popped up with foam tape.
The third photo was backed with both the Donut Worry print, anchored with that scrumptious, gold-threaded, straight, machine stitching, as well as a snippet of cheesecloth for additional texture.  The space to the left of it was embellished with a trio of "you are so sweet", "remember to smile", and "hooray" Cupcake Party Die Cuts, popped up with foam tape, and a Sweet Life Flair Button.
The fourth and final photo was backed with a Life Is Beautiful 3x4 Journaling Card and a piece of the Adorable print, both of which were secured with the same stitching, mentioned previously, as well as a folded piece of Gold Leaves Metallic Vellum for shine.  It was also topped with a "HELLO" Cupcake Party Die-Cut banner, popped up with foam tape.
A trio of So Sweet Die-Cut doughnuts drive home the theme of our doughnut-eating parade.
The "there are so many beautiful reasons to be happy." Life Is Beautiful Die-Cut Word was popped up with foam tape, in the center of the design.  A couple of "OUR HAPPY PLACE!" and "days like these are unforgettable" All Together Word Stickers; scattering of new-to-me Always Aqua Sequins, which I couldn't possibly love the color of any more; and my journaling complete the look.  My journaling reads,  May 12, 2012, Our favorite parts of the Mission Days Parade are doughnuts from Lamar's (Yum!) & the drum lines.
Thanks so much for taking time out of your sacred weekends to visit, friends!  Be blessed!

Paper Sweeties November Release Rewind

Thursday, November 15, 2018

Hey, friends!  I promised to put Paper Sweeties' November Release, Merry, to work, without paper, for you all today; and I'm here now to deliver.
I started this holiday, wall decor project and/or these tree decorations by stamping each word/phrase, from Merry, with a light-colored, water-based, washable ink, on scraps of white fabric.
I then stitched over the stamped lines with my chosen, non-traditional shades of embroidery floss...
eliminating only one of the colors from the final, shorter word.  Once each stitched, fabric word/phrase had been washed and dried, just to make sure none of the initially-stamped ink was showing, they were stretched across tiny, wood, embroidery hoops...
and embellished with die-cut, white, felt, Meet Me Under the Mistletoe, holly leaves, stitched with color-coordinating, button berries and Strawberry...
Robin Egg...
and Green Apple seam binding ribbon, tied in double bows and embellished with single pearls, backed with lengths of white string, tied in bows.
Thanks, as always, for humbling me with a visit!  Have a wonderful remainder of your week and a truly blessed, holiday season.  XOXO

Nancy Salkeld

Paper Sweeties November Release Party

Wednesday, November 14, 2018

Welcome back, y'all!  I'm thrilled that you all have come back to see a little more of what Paper Sweeties' newest release, Merry, has to offer.  So let's just get right to it.  Shall we?
I started this card by stamping a grid, patterned print, in Lucky Limeade, Bashful Blue, Strawberry Slush, and Barely Banana inks, repeatedly, with four of the words from Merry; trimming its bottom edge with a festive, black and white, text print; and framing them both with a piece of Bashful Blue cardstock and white-threaded, straight, machine stitching.  The "Sending you a HUG in a MUG" sentiment, from But First, Coffee, was stamped, in Jet Black ink, on a lime label and adhered in the bottom center of the prepped piece.
The space between the two prints was then wrapped with a length of white string, tied in a bow to the left side of the card face; before I secured everything, to the white, cardstock, card face, with foam tape.
A snippet of cheesecloth adds delicious texture behind the mug and cupcake images, which were stamped on watercolor paper die cuts, watercolored, and popped up with foam tape.  Both of these images come from the Homemade with Love stamp set.  A little Glossy Accents provides just the right amount of shine for both the coffee/hot cocoa and berries...
and a trio of white-embossed, on vellum, snowflakes, from Snow Friends, Sweet Treats, and Homemade with Love, were scattered across the top portion of the design to complete the look.
I have a little something different, for you all, tomorrow, to wrap up release week... something that puts these playfully typed words/phrases to work without paper.  Until then, thanks, as always, for stopping by; and have a blessed day!

Paper Sweeties November Release Sneak Peek

Tuesday, November 13, 2018

Evening, y'all!  We've got a super, versatile, stamp set, Merry, being released this month over at Paper Sweeties; and I'm here today to show you a little of what it can do.  Enjoy!
I started this card by trimming the top edge of a piece of music, patterned paper with a strip of candy cane print and anchoring them both, with white-threaded, straight, machine stitching, to the white, cardstock, card face.  The manger, roof, and holly images, from both Stand Add-On: Manger and Homemade with Love, were then stamped, in Jet Black ink, on watercolor paper; watercolored; hand-cut out; and popped up, with foam tape, in their respective positions.
The "BELIEVE" sentiment, from Merry, was stamped, in Jet Black ink, on a strip of vellum and secured, over the prepped manger, with more stitching...
as well as a couple of white brads.
A little Xmas Red Stickles for the holly berries...
and a length of Frosting seam binding ribbon, tied in a double bow and embellished with a single pearl, backed with a length of Baker's Twine, tied in a bow, complete the look.
Thanks so much for stopping by, Paper Sweeties friends!  There are a total of eleven words/phrases found in this new stamp set, and I've used all but three of them over the course of this release; so, please come on back tomorrow to see lots more of what this set has to offer.  Hugs!

Pretty Little Studio: Fall Thank You

Thursday, November 8, 2018

Morning, y'all!  I have a seasonal thank you up on the Pretty Little Studio blog today and would love to share it here, with you all, too.  Enjoy!
I started this card by trimming the left side of a 3-3/4" x 5" piece of our Wander print with a strip of Feeling Warm Gold Metallic Vellum and anchored them both, with gold-threaded, straight and zig-zag, machine stitches, to a 4" x 5-1/4" piece of white cardstock, before popping it up, with foam tape, in the center of the white, cardstock, card face.  I then laced a "fall" Oct./Nov. 2018 Freebie tag with a length of white string; backed it with a Sprinkles Bookmark, popped up with foam tape...
and topped it with a Picnic Label, which was popped up with foam tape and had a "thank you" die-cut strip, from the same Oct./Nov. 2018 Freebie package as the tag itself, stapled to it.
A length of white, seam binding ribbon, tied in a double bow and studded with a single pearl, adds scrumptious texture...
and a couple of Lovely Leaves Die Cuts, clustered with Falling Leaves Sequins and a Monarch Die Cut, complete the look.
Like I said above, that "fall" tag and "thank you" sentiment come from the Oct./Nov. 2018 Freebie, which can be yours today with any $24 or more purchase.  Woot!
Thanks, as always, for humbling me with a visit!  Be blessed, friends!

25 Days of Christmas Tags

Monday, November 5, 2018

Morning, friends!  I'm so excited to be here today, sharing a trio of tags, as Paper Sweeties joins in Tracey McNeeley's annual 25 Days of Christmas Tags.
I started these tags by embossing die-cut, from our For You Sweet Cuts die, white, cardstock tags with the snowfall background and lacing them all with white string.
I then stamped the snow globe, from our Snow Time stamp set, three times on watercolor, paper die cuts, which, once embellished, were popped off the surface of the embossed tags with foam tape.  Beginning on the left of the row above, the first snow globe was filled in with the tree image and "Sparkle & Shine" sentiment, both from the Snow Time stamp set; watercolored; and splattered with Titanium White acrylic paint.
The middle snow globe was filled in with the snowman and "Holiday Hugs" sentiment, both, again, come from the Snow Time stamp set; watercolored; and splattered with Titanium White acrylic paint.
The final snow globe was filled in with the present and "A Gift For You" sentiment, both of which can be found in that same Snow Time stamp set; watercolored; and splattered with Titanium White acrylic paint.
Finally, each one was embellished with die-cut, using our Meet Me Under the Mistletoe Sweet Cuts die and white felt, holly leaves, stitched with hot pink, berry buttons...
as well as Mint, Frosting, and Strawberry seam binding ribbons, straight from the Paper Sweeties Shop.  The ribbons themselves were tied in double bows and studded with single pearls to complete the look.
Be sure to check out the link above for all the details/rules involved with the link-up.  You don't want to miss out on a single chance at one of the 26 fabulous prizes, including a $25 gift certificate from Paper Sweeties.  Woot!
Thanks so much for visiting!  Good luck, and have an amazing work week and an even grander holiday season, friends!  XOXO
