Evening, y'all! I'm squeaking in this month's For the Love of Books pick just in the nick of time, as there's only a few hours left in January. It is written for children ages eight to twelve but enjoyed by the young and old alike. Matter of fact, I just finished reading this book aloud to my not-quite five-year-old; and he was enamored with it so much, we've already begun reading the sequel.
The Mouse and the Motorcycle, written by the renowned Beverly Cleary, tells the tale of a curious mouse, named Ralph, and his many adventures at the Mountain View Inn. Ralph wasn't like the frightened, worrisome mice in his family. He longed for excitement, danger, and speed. Lucky for him, one day, a young guest, with a shiny, toy motorcycle in tow, befriended him. Once Ralph settled into the seat of that motorcycle, grasped its handle grips, and whispered an excited "pb-pb-b-b-b", there was no stopping him. He became fearless, dodging the vacuum cleaner, outwitting an unfriendly dog, standing up to Uncle Lester, and even escaping the hungry talons of an owl and the unknowns of the ground floor to help his new friend. With a motorcycle to call his own, almost anything could happen.
Thanks so much for humbling me with a visit! Happy reading, friends!
