For the Love of Books

Thursday, February 28, 2019

Evening, y'all!  I hope you've all had a wonderful week!  I know that it's been quiet around here.  Homeschooling my kiddos takes A LOT of my day, and I don't always have the energy left afterward to do things for myself, including blogging; but I didn't want to let a month pass without sharing another fantastic read.  With all the ugly floating around in our world, especially as of recently, I felt like this vibrantly-illustrated, relatable book, which was written for children ages four to eight, was a fitting choice for this month's For the Love of Books pick.
What Does It Mean to Be Kind?, written by Rana DiOrio and illustrated by Stephane Jorisch, is a book about its namesake.  From "smiling at the new student in the class" and "picking up trash that isn't yours" to "noticing when someone is sad and taking the time to understand why" and "having the courage to treat others the way you like to be treated", this book isn't an exhaustive list of ways to be kind but makes doing so ever so simple and even fun!

It's so sad that there is an actual need to explain kindness, in our society, today; but I love that this book gives tangible ideas to begin demonstrating such to one another and helps open dialogue for further creative thoughts on the subject.  Our world would be a much better place if we developed a little kindness in our everyday lives.

A little consideration, a little thought for others, makes all the difference.  - Winnie the Pooh

Pretty Little Studio: Life Is Good

Friday, February 22, 2019

Morning, y'all!  TGIF!  I hope you all have fabulous plans for the weekend.  Adina has another basketball game on Saturday; and we're meeting some friends after for lunch and a fun activity, for our littles, at Fort Bliss.  The weather is calling for sunny skies and mild temperatures, which will make the perfect day for such, especially after the rain we're having today and flurries we had earlier this week.  Those Tuesday flurries put me in the mood to make a wintry page, inspired by a couple of photos of my littlest from our home in Kansas City, which have been taking up prime real estate on my desk for well over a month now, and another precious, vintage die cut.  It's up on the Pretty Little Studio blog today; and I wanted to share it here, too.  Enjoy!
I started this page by adding puddles of blue and aqua watercolors to a 12" x 12" watercolor paper, base page.  I then splattered it with those same shades of watercolor, as well as red and yellow watercolors and Pure Black and Titanium White, acrylic paints before topping everything with Cameo-cut, white, cardstock snowflakes; Snowflakes Vellum Die Cuts; and Clear Acetate Believe Sticker snowflakes and stars.  A quartet of Snow & Hot Cocoa Die-Cut snowflakes were also popped up, at the end of my design, but they show up super well here, with foam tape.
My 3" square photos were then matted with white cardstock; backed with a snippet of cheesecloth; and stacked atop a scrumptious display of prints, including You & Me, Wrapping Presents, Gold Metallic Confetti, and Snowy Night, all anchored with gold-threaded, straight, machine stitching.  I also layered a yellow Beautiful Bookmark Journaling Card...
and Wish List Clear Shipping Tag, laced with Baker's Twine, tied in a bow, which happens to kiss the top, right corner of my "Life is GOOD" Good Life Acrylic Shape title, in behind the top photo, which was embellished with a "love this" January 2019 Freebie flair button.
A couple of Everyday Cut-Apart and Savannah Dreams 12x12 Paper Pack sticker sheet phrases frame the left side of my journaling, which reads, One sled ride was enough for you.  You were much happier swinging in the snow and landing in it @ the bottom of the slide.
The Aaron Vintage Die Cut, popped up with foam tape and topped with an Everyday Cut-Apart label, housing my Dec. 29, 2015, date, complete the look.
Thanks, as always, for visiting!  Have a wonderfully blessed weekend, friends!

Pretty Little Studio: Crush on You

Sunday, February 17, 2019

Morning, y'all, and welcome to a new week!  I'm up on the Pretty Little Studio blog today, sharing one more Valentine card.  This one was for my hubby and inspired by that darling Owl Valentine Vintage Die Cut.  Enjoy!
I started this card by anchoring a 3-5/8" x 4-7/8" piece of our Cloud 11 Rose Gold Metallic Vellum, in the center of a 4" x 5-1/4" piece of our Head My Way patterned print, with gold-threaded, straight, machine stitching.  I then overlaid their combined, left edge with the Love Clear Word Art strip and anchored all three, to the white cardstock, card face, with more gold-threaded, straight, machine stitching.
A Bucket List Journaling Card was also framed with more of that scrumptious, gold-threaded stitching, running right over the flat edge of a "CRUSH ON YOU" Adore You Cut-Apart Word Flag, tucked in its bottom, right corner and topped with a "with all my heart" Love Story Word Sticker, backed with white cardstock, hand cut out, and popped up with foam tape.
The journaling card itself was then wrapped with a length of white string, tied in a bow to its right edge and topped with the Owl Valentine Vintage Die Cut, which was nestled, with foam tape, under the right, open edge of the Love Clear Word Art strip and into the center of the card face.
A couple of Hello Lovely Word Die-Cut hearts, popped up with foam tape and given a kiss of shine with Glossy Accents, complete the look.
Before I run, I also wanted to share the darling February Freebie with any $35 or more purchase.
But if $35 is too much for you to part with, you can still get the February Cut-Apart Freebie with any $1 or more purchase...
and Melissa is running a shipping special all month long, too; so be sure to go get some fabulous goodies to help you get creative.  Woohoo!
Thanks so much for stopping by!  Have a blessed Sunday, friends!

Paper Sweeties February Release Rewind

Friday, February 15, 2019

The Design Team is wrapping up Paper Sweeties' release week with one more round of projects today; and I've cooked up a trio of tags, which will be tied on my kiddos' Easter baskets in just a couple of short months, to share.  Check them out!
I started these tags by die-cutting them, from left to right respectively, from Pool Party, Bashful Blue, and Ballet Pink cardstocks, using the For You Sweet Cuts die.  I then stamped them each, in Jet Black ink, with the "Egg-stra Sweet Easter Wishes" sentiment from Jelly Bean Time, before dry embossing them with the polka dots and lacing them with white string.
The Easter baskets, from the All Occasions Planner Series stamp set, were then stamped, in Jet Black ink, on coordinating, watercolor paper die cuts; watercolored; popped up, with foam tape, just above the previously stamped sentiments; and given doses of shimmer and shine with Dazzling Diamonds for the eggs and Glossy Accents for each of the bows.
Coordinating, from left to right respectively, Robin Egg, Blueberry, and Bubblegum seam binding ribbon bows, studded with single, white pearls, complete the look.  I simply cannot say it enough, y'all.  Debbie has the best seam binding ribbon ever.  Swoon!
That wraps things up for this month.  Thanks again, for all your visits during this release, friends!  They mean so much to me, as I know you all are just as busy as I am.  Mwah!  Have an amazing weekend!

Paper Sweeties February Release Party

Thursday, February 14, 2019

Welcome back, y'all!  I've got another card, inspired by Paper Sweeties' newest, All Occasions Planner Series, stamp set, for you all today.  I've combined it with a couple of oldies but goodies to create this seasonal treasure.
I started this card by anchoring a 2-1/2" x 5-1/2" strip of a green, triangle, patterned print, with gold-threaded, straight, machine stitching down both its vertical sides, to the white, cardstock, card face.  I then wrapped it, just inside the right edge of that stitching, three times, with a length of white string and tied it, in a bow, near the top edge of the card face.
The clover image, from our new, All Occasions Planner Series, stamp set, was stamped, in Jet Black ink, coming out of the stamped, in Jet Black ink, mug image, from But First, Coffee, on a 2-1/2" x 3-1/2" piece of watercolor paper.  Both images were then watercolored...
grounded with the stamped, in Jet Black ink, "Good Luck" sentiment from So Sweet of You; framed with both Bordering Blue cardstock and gold-threaded, straight, machine stitching; and adhered, with foam tape, in the center of the card face, tucked under the string bow and over a nest of cheesecloth just for a little more texture.  A sprinkling of Latte Coffee sequins completes the look.
Thanks, as always, for humbling me with a visit, friends!  Have an amazing day; and be sure to come back tomorrow, as we all have one more papercrafted creation to round up release week.  Hugs!

Paper Sweeties February Release Sneak Peek

Wednesday, February 13, 2019

Hey, y'all!  Just popping in to share a little of what Paper Sweeties' newest release, the All Occasions Planner Series stamp set and its coordinating die, can do.  It consists of fifteen bitty images, which I haven't even begun to tap the potential of in my preparations for this release, inspired by a calendar year.  So, let's just dive right in.  Shall we?
I started this card by embossing stars into a 3-1/5" x 4-3/4" piece of watercolor paper; framing it with a slightly larger piece of Barely Banana cardstock and yellow-threaded, straight, machine stitching; running a 1-1/2" strip of yellow, stripe, patterned paper, anchored with white-threaded, straight, machine stitching, down its center; and wrapping it, right over that print, with a length of Mint seam binding ribbon, tied in a double bow and embellished with a white, button blossom, laced with a length of white string, tied in a bow.  I then popped it off the surface, of the white, cardstock, card face, with foam tape.
I then played with our new All Occasions Planner Series stamp set by stamping three of its images, along with "JOY" from the Merry stamp set, in Jet Black ink, on 1-1/4" squares of watercolor paper and watercoloring them.  They were then adhered, in a grid design, on a 2-3/4" square of Pistachio Pudding cardstock.
Before securing them with soft-green-threaded, straight, machine stitching, I tucked a vellum, Sweet Borders Sweet Cuts die cut, stamped, in Jet Black ink, with the "Congratulations" sentiment, from Rah-Rah!, under the bottom right square and over the bottom left one.  Finally, it was popped off the surface of the card face, just under the embellished, ribbon bow, with foam tape, to complete the look.
Thanks so much for stopping by!  Be sure to pop in to see what the rested of the team has done with these cuties, and I hope to see you all right back here, at the same time, tomorrow.  Have a wonderful day, friends!

Pretty Little Studio: Vintage Valentine Cards

Friday, February 8, 2019

Morning, y'all!  I'm up on the Pretty Little Studio blog today with a trio of Valentine cards for my kiddos.  They were inspired by the XOXO Collection and three different, darling, vintage, Valentine die cuts.  Enjoy!
I started these cards by covering 3-3/4" x 5" pieces of, from right to left respectively in the photo above, our Cloud 11, Heart Eyes, and Hugs & Kisses prints with the same size sheets of Christmas List Vellum.  The vellum was implemented just to soften the prints and bring in a hint of the bright blue color found in each of the vintage die cuts.  I then anchored the pieces together, to Pool Party, cardstock frames, with gold-threaded, straight, machine stitching.  Each one then received a bit of texture with 4" Cambridge Doilies, wrapped around one of the long edges of the prepped pieces, as well as lengths of Baker's Twine, tied in bows, before being adhered, with foam tape, to their respective, white, cardstock, card bases.
The first card, which happens to be for my oldest, who, at the moment, happens to be the musician in the family was then dressed up with the Silas Valentine Vintage Die Cut...
which was popped up, with foam tape, just to the right of the Baker's Twine bow...
and over an ampersand-printed Forever Hearts Metallic Foil Die Cut.
A "love" Love Word Flag, dressed up with a length of gold thread, tied in a bow, and couple of Love Word Flag hearts, embellished with Dazzling Diamonds, complete the look.
The second card, which happens to be for my beautiful daughter, just because I know she'll ooze over that sweet, puppy face...
was dressed up with the Romeo Vintage Die Cut...
popped up, with foam tape, just to the left of the Baker's Twine bow...
and over a polka-dot-printed Forever Hearts Metallic Foil Die Cut.
A "darling" Love Word Flag, prepared in the same way as above, and two more Love Word Flag hearts, dazzling with fine glitter, complete the look.
The third and final card, which was made for my littlest (He just celebrated his fifth birthday and pleaded with his daddy and I for a puppy.  For now, he settled for puppy cupcakes; but I know he'll be asking again soon.  Maybe these two pups will put off the inevitable a little longer.)...
was dressed up with the Puppy Love Vintage Die Cut...
which, also, was popped up, with foam tape, just to the right of the Baker's Twine bow...
and over a chevron-printed Forever Hearts Metallic Foil Die Cut.
A "together" Love Word Flag, dressed in the same way as above, and couple of additional, Love Word Flag hearts, boasting that same shine as above, complete the look.
Thanks, as always, for stopping by!  Have a wonderful weekend, friends, and if I don't get to tell you before such, a magical Valentine's Day!

Pretty Little Studio: So Dreamy

Friday, February 1, 2019

Happy Friday, y'all!  I adore the dainty, little prints on Pretty Little Studio's packaging inserts and haven't been able to part with many of them, once I've emptied the package contents.  Because they are super small samples of their respective collections, I've known that I wanted to use them for a quilting project for quite some time.  Well, today is the day!  I've got a sweet, quilted, baby card, for my brother and sister-in-law, up on the blog today; and I'd love to share it here, too.  Check it out!
I started this card by cutting the various package inserts listed below, as well as our Feeling Cozy print and an Apple Cider 3x4 Journaling Card, into 1" squares.  I then paper-pieced them into the center of a piece of Pool Party cardstock and secured each one with gold-threaded, straight, machine stitching.  When adhered vertically, the prominent, "so dreamy", Daily Dreams Die-Cut Word sentiment anchors the left side of the darling Baby Jack Mom Mini Vintage Die Cut, which was popped up with foam tape.
The prepped piece was then wrapped, three times, amongst a trio of Fluffy Clouds, with a length of white string, which I tied, in a bow, near the right edge of the prepped piece and just below a Let It Snow Flair Button.
A "dream big" Maybe Later Circle Sticker, mounted on white cardstock and popped up with foam tape, peeks out from behind one of the clouds, which was topped with a Butterfly Bush Sticker, prepped in the same way as the circle sticker and adhered just at it center in order to give those wings lift.
Finally, a Catmint Tab, which houses an "It's a boy" Baby Words Sticker, was adhered to the bottom, right, back-side corner of the prepped piece; before the entire thing was popped off the surface of the white, cardstock, card face, with foam tape, to complete the look.
Thanks so much for stopping by!  Have a wonderful weekend, friends!
