Pretty Little Studio: Bohemian Butterflies

Friday, June 28, 2019

Welcome to the weekend, y'all!  I'm just stopping in, as promised, to share a pretty, little collection of mini cards that happen to be up on the Pretty Little Studio blog today.
I'm going to do things a little differently this go around and get a little up close and personal with each of these cutie patooties before getting down to the nitty-gritty of them all.  So, just sit back and enjoy the next, little, picture walk.
I won't hash out the details and products for each individual creation, as they're all made in a similar fashion, and the goodies are all linked below; but I will give you an overview of how they were created.  I started these cards by cutting 3-1/2" x 7" strips from clear 8" x 8" paper, including Rainbow Grid, Bright Side, Good Times, and Over the Rainbow, to serve as my 3-1/2" square, card bases.
I then folded 2" x 4" prints, from the Bohemian Dreams and Sunny Memories collections, in half and adhered them to the front centers of the printed, clear, card bases.  This is where my brief wishes will be written to each recipient.
I then topped each 2" x 4" print, horizontally, with a Label It Die Cut, as well as an April 2019 Freebie butterfly, and speckled them with Pure Black and Titanium White, acrylic paints.  A length of white string, tied in a bow and tucked under the right-side, butterfly wing, and sprinkling of Primrose, Sunsational, and Seaspray Sequins, as well as Falling Leaves Sequin Mix and Lovely Clear Confetti, complete the look.
To cover the adhesive coming through the backside of the clear front of the card face, I also trimmed one end off more 2" x 4" Bohemian Dreams and Sunny Memories Swatch Paper Pack prints and adhered them in the centers of the inside, front, clear covers and showing through the back.
I just love how these minis turned out!  Thanks so much for humbling me with a visit!  Have a wonderful weekend, friends!

For the Love of Books

Thursday, June 27, 2019

Morning, y'all!  I've got a little something papercrafty in nature, for you all, bright and early tomorrow morning; but before that sneaks its way onto my blog, I thought that I'd share this month's For the Love of Books pick.  We had a special grandma that lived down the street from us back in Kansas City.  We new we'd deeply miss her upon our move here to El Paso; so, while we have no intention of losing touch with her, before our move, I began to pray that the Lord would bless us with special neighbors right here in EP, too.  As it turns out, he gave my kiddos an abuela, who frequently takes care of her own grandchildren, giving my kiddos more playmates, right across the street.  She cooks for us, welcomes us into her home, loves on us, and blesses us in so many more ways than she'll ever understand.  This book, which was written for children ages four to seven, was chosen in her honor.
Thank You, Omu!, written and cleverly illustrated collage-style by Oge Mora, begins with Omu cooking up a big, fat pot of thick, red stew, exclaiming, "What a delicious stew!  Tonight's dinner will surely be the best I have ever had."  "As the thick, red stew simmered on the stove, its scrumptious scent wafted out the window and out the door, down the hall, toward the street, and around the block, until - Knock!"  Over and over again, someone from the neighborhood was at her door, proclaiming how delicious it smelled.  Omu never hesitated to share what she had.  When it was time for her own dinner, however, she discovered that her thick, red stew was gone.  Just as she was sadly sitting down with her empty pot, another knock at the door brought the most delicious thank you from those who had enjoyed her stew.

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Happy reading, friends!

You're Dog-Gone Awesome

Friday, June 21, 2019

Morning, y'all!  Just popping in on this sunny, summer day to share the card that I made my dad for Father's Day.  I've been busy weeding through my stash in preparation for a summer yard sale, as well as listing a bunch of new stuff AND marking others down on my For Sale page (Be sure to check 'em out!), and happened upon some oldies but goodies that were long overdue for a little love.  They were the inspiration for his card.
I started this card by stamping the first and third dogs in the line, in Jet Black ink, on a 3-3/4" x 5" piece of watercolor paper.  I then masked them off, stamped the second and fourth dogs, removed the masks, and watercolored all four.  There's a subtle, watercolor highlighting around their edges, too; but it's not wanting to show up in these pics.  I used to love this brand of watercolor paper; but I bought my first pack of the same brand here in El Paso, and it's weird.  It absorbs the watercolor rather than spreading it around.  Do you think that I just got a bad batch?  I really love that it comes in a 12" x 12" size.
Anyhow, I then stamped the "you're DOG-GONE awesome" sentiment, in Jet Black ink, near the upper, right corner before framing the entire thing with Brocade Blue cardstock and black-threaded, straight, machine stitches...
wrapping it, three times, with a length of Baker's Twine, tied in a bow; and popping it off the surface of the white, cardstock, card face with foam tape.  A little Glossy Accents, for the pups' eyes and noses, and white, Jelly Roll pen detailing completes the look.
Thanks so much for visiting, friends!  Have a wonderfully blessed weekend!  XOXO

Pretty Little Studio: Kitten Hello

Saturday, June 15, 2019

Welcome to the weekend, y'all!  I have a sweet page up on the Pretty Little Studio blog today and wanted to pop in here to share it, with you all, too.  Enjoy!
I started this page by adding puddles and splatters of mint and yellow watercolors to the 12" x 12" watercolor paper, base page.  I then used Out to Sea Clouds Die Cuts as masks to create a cloudy background by rubbing Faded Jeans and Tumbled Glass Distress Inks over them before using a punchinella stamp to add texture with Brocade Blue, Pistachio Pudding, and Daffodil Delight inks and splattering everything once again, but this time with Pure Black and Titanium White, acrylic paints.  I also splattered over the Distress Inks with water, just because I love the way they react to it and the interest the effect adds to any project.
That set the stage for my photos which were matted with white cardstock and backed with lots of bits from 8x8 prints, including Taking a Walk, Acorn Granola, Stargazer, and Gold Metallic Confetti.  They were all anchored with gold-threaded, straight, machine stitching.  I also tucked a Chrysanthemum Shipping Tag, laced with white string, tied in a bow, as well as a "SUCH A GOOD STORY" Savannah Dreams 12x12 Paper Pack Die Cut, in behind its top, right edge.
The beautiful Susie anchors the right side of the photos and was the inspiration for my color palette.
A "hello" Frolic Word Die Cut was fitted between the base of my photos...
and the entire design was grounded with my journaling, which reads, This cutie appeared to be having the most difficult time staying in this pipe that we had stored under the back porch; when, all of a sudden, she jumped out & took off.  Then, low & behold, another cutie appeared.  Critter must've been pushing her out.  Sisters!
Live Simply Clear Stickers, April 2019 Freebie butterflies; and a Fall Phrases Cut-Apart label, used to record the May 6, 2013, date complete the look.
Before I run, I wanted to share the deliciously colorful June Cut-Apart Freebie with any purchase...
and June Freebie with any $35 purchase or more.  Be sure to pick up yours today!
Thanks so much for humbling me with a visit!  Have a truly fabulous weekend, friends!

Pretty Little Studio: National Donut Day

Friday, June 7, 2019

Morning, y'all!  I trust you're all doing well.  We've had a super busy start to the summer, and it looks to just keep getting busier and busier; but I'm uber excited to have had a little time to get creative this week.  I made a quartet of cards in honor of today being National Donut Day.  They happen to be up on the Pretty Little Studio blog this morning.  Check 'em out!
I started these cards by Cameo-cutting the donut bases from Crumb Cake cardstock and the icing tops from a variety of Pretty Little Studio prints, which I'll direct you to as we get up close and personal with each one, using Kim Watson's free Donut cut file over at Scrapbook and Cards Today.  The icing itself was coated in Glossy Accents for shine; and while it was still drying, I added lots of silver seed bead, sequin, and confetti sprinkles.  Each donut sets atop a 4" Cambridge Doily and opens to have a little room for a personal message on the inside but also has a variety of computer-generated and printed, on scrumptious Rose Gold Metallic Cut-Apart Labels, sentiments, tucked in between the folds of the cards themselves.  The gorgeous, teal color, that comes from the Night Thinker 8x8 print, might make this one my favorite of the bunch.
It's sentiment reads "You are the icing on my donut." over personalized Always Aqua Sequins.
The left end of the sentiment was grounded with a mix of Floral Fantasy Die Cuts, some of which were popped up with foam tape, as well as a Baker's Twine bow.
This pink beauty boasts the Leave Your Mark 8x8 print...
a "Donut forget I love you!" sentiment; Fuchsia Pink Sequins...
and a combination of Floral Fantasy and Happy Place Die Cuts, mixed together with a Baker's Twine bow.
I love how sunny the Shine from Within 8x8 print makes this third donut.
Its "I donut know how to thank you!" sentiment, over Sunsational Sequins...
was anchored with a different combination of Floral Fantasy and Happy Place Die Cuts but the same Baker's Twine bow...
and the fourth and final card was made with my niece in mind.  Her birthday happens to be next Saturday, and I know she loves her sweets.  I'm hoping this donut, with its soft green, So Dreamy 8x8, printed frosting, brings a smile to her face.
It possesses a "Sprinkled with Love" sentiment over Seaspray Sequins...
and anchored with a couple of Floral Fantasy Die Cuts, as well as the customary, Baker's Twine bow.
Thanks, as always, for visiting, friends!  Have a wonderfully blessed weekend, and be sure to enjoy a sweet treat of your own in honor of this fun day... hopefully, one with a few more calories than these ;).  XOXO
