For the Love of Books

Monday, September 30, 2019

Evening, y'all!  I don't know if you noticed or not; but with all the busyness that goes with the start of school and getting everyone situated and off to a good start, I missed sharing a For the Love of Books pick last month.  So, for those of you who are still reading these posts and regardless of having shared lots of my favorite, start-of-school books in the past, I thought that I'd share two more such faves this month, beginning with one that is part of a much-greater and ever-growing collection showcasing Charlie the Ranch Dog.
In Charlie Goes to School, written by Ree Drummond and illustrated by Diane deGroat, Charlie walks us through a homeschool day-in-the-life on the Drummond Ranch.  He rather quickly decides that he's got this school thing so wrapped up that he's going to become the teacher himself.  "Suzie needs to learn her letters.  Kitty Kitty needs to practice his math.  The ranch horses need to brush up on their history.  And Walter?  Well, Walter needs to learn everything."  It doesn't take long for things to get completely out of Charlie's control or for him to decide, in perfect, Charlie fashion, that a recess, or rather a nap, will make things right with the world once again.
In Annabelle Swift, Kindergartner, written and illustrated by Amy Schwartz, Annabelle gets an exaggerated education, in what it means to be a good student, from her older sister, Lucy, who is determined for everyone in school to know that Annabelle is her sister.  But when all of Lucy's advice seems to steer Annabelle in the wrong direction, Annabelle is ready to throw in the towel on the whole business of kindergarten.  A little, special encouragement, at recess, from Lucy, however, is just what Annabelle needs to share something Lucy taught her that would impress not only her teacher and entire class, but also earn Annabelle a very special title.

Thanks so much for reading!  I'd love for you to leave some of your favorite, beginning-of-school titles in the comments below; and if you haven't done so already, I hope you'll find a little time to enjoy one of these treasures, with a loved one, today.  If you do, I'd love to know what you think.  Have an extra blessed week, friends!

Pretty Little Studio: Celebrate Indian Summer

Morning, y'all!  I'm just stopping in to start the week off right with a couple of celebratory cards, inspired by the Indian Summer Collection.  They happen to be up on the Pretty Little Studio blog today.  Enjoy!
Let's get a little up close and personal.  Shall we?
I started this first card by trimming the top edge of a piece of the Chestnuts patterned print with a piece of the Blue Moon print and anchoring the result, to a slightly larger piece of white cardstock, with a gold-threaded, straight, machine-stitch frame.  Before popping it off the surface of the white, cardstock, card face with foam tape, I wrapped their connection with a yellow ribbon, tied in a bow to the top, left edge of the prepped piece.
I then stapled a "celebrate" Goodbye Summer Die-Cut tab to the top edge of a Magic Days Journaling Pocket Card...
popped it off the prepped piece with foam tape; and topped it with one of those gorgeous, Timeless Die-Cut Frames, filled with a stamped, in Jet Black ink, "EVERY.  SINGLE." and a Timeless Die-Cut Frames + Leaves "MOMENT".  A couple of additional, Goodbye Summer and Time Together Die-Cut flowers, popped up with foam tape, as well as stamped, in Jet Black ink, on vellum and hand-cut leaves, embellish the blossoms that were already part of the frame.  A Love This Flair Button and handful of Starry Night Confetti stars complete the look.
The second in the set was created in a similar fashion to the first.
I trimmed the bottom edge of a piece of the Pumpkin Pie print with a piece of the Pie Spice print and anchored them to a piece of white cardstock in the same way as the first above.  Their connection was wrapped with a length of bright pink ribbon, tied in a bow near the bottom, right edge of the prepped piece.
I then stapled a Goodbye Summer Die-Cut tab to the top edge of a Magic Days Journaling Pocket Card.  I also tucked a heart flag, from that same package, into the mix...
before popping it off the card face with foam tape and topping it with another one of those Timeless Die-Cut Frames, filled with a Timeless Die-Cut Frames + Leaves "BEST" and stamped, in Jet Black ink, "EVERYTHING".  An additional, floral die cut, from that same frame package, popped up with foam tape, as well as stamped, in Jet Black ink, on vellum and hand-cut leaves, embellish the blossoms that were already part of this frame.
Another flower, from that same frames package, dressed up with a couple more stamped, vellum leaves, as well as a handful of Starry Night Confetti stars, complete the look.

Thanks so much for humbling me with a visit!  Have a wonderful week, friends!

Pretty Little Studio: Summer Fell Into Fall

Monday, September 23, 2019

Happy first day of fall, friends!  I couldn't think of a more fitting way to celebrate the day, here on my blog, as well as on the Pretty Little Studio blog, than with a page inspired by Pretty Little Studio's new kid on the block, Indian Summer.  Check out how this stunning, fall collection has begun to inspire me.
I started this page by adding puddles of bright pink and orange watercolors to the 12" x 12" watercolor paper, base page.  I then rubbed Squeezed Lemonade, Spiced Marmalade, and Faded Jeans Distress Inks, through a lattice stencil, over everything; strategically stamped plus signs, in Jet Black ink, using the new, Indian Summer, stamp set; and splattered everything with the same shades of watercolor used above, as well as navy and yellow watercolors and Pure Black and Titanium White, acrylic paints.  That set the stage for my photos, which were both matted with white cardstock and backed with a large snippet of cheesecloth for texture.  The top photo was also backed with scraps of the Blue Moon and Pie Spice prints and topped, at its left side, with the "ALL AT ONCE summer FELL INTO fall" Beautiful Colors Die-Cut title, popped up with foam tape and embellished with a Beautiful Colors Die-Cut leaf circle, as well as an orange button, laced with white string.  A couple more fall-colored buttons, laced with white string, were scattered throughout the design.
The black Timeless Die-Cut Frames were then scattered throughout the design, tucked under the photos themselves and filled in with various fall-themed die cuts from the Happy Place and Beautiful Colors Die Cuts packages.  This one, to the right of the top photo, was also embellished with a Love This Flair Button, backed by a tangle of black thread and popped up with foam tape, as well as a Goodbye Summer Die-Cut leaf circle.
The Beautiful Colors Die-Cut branch was also popped up with foam tape and grounded with an "our favorite place" Goodbye Summer Die-Cut, popped up with foam tape and anchored with the hand-written, Sept. 21, 2012, date.
My bottom photo was backed with torn bits of the Staying Warm, Chestnuts, and Cranberry Jello prints; stapled with a Beautiful Colors Die-Cut tab...
and grounded with a Happy Place Die-Cut "Family", as well as a Goodbye Summer Die-Cut "LOVE" circle, backed with another tangle of black thread.
A grouping of stamped, in Jet Black ink, Indian Summer stamp-set phrases, as well as a "LIVING LIFE TO THE FULL" Goodbye Summer Die Cut, completes the look.
Thanks, as always, for humbling me with a visit!  Have a fabulous fall, y'all!

Pretty Little Studio: One in a Melon!

Saturday, September 14, 2019

Morning, y'all!  Just stopping back in, on this gorgeous, sunny day, to share another summer-inspired page for Pretty Little Studio.  It happens to be up on the blog this am; and I always love to share my creations with you all here, too.  Enjoy!
I started this page by adding puddles of bright pink and yellow watercolors to the 12" x 12" watercolor paper, base page.  I then splattered it with those same shades of watercolor, as well as navy, aqua, and orange watercolors and Pure Black and Titanium White, acrylic paints, and stamped it, in Jet Black ink, with the grid background.  The watermelon was Cameo-cut from our Bee Happy, Sunny Day, and Laugh All Day prints, each of which happens to come from a different collection, as well as Basic Black cardstock, and anchored with gold-threaded, straight, machine stitching.  I don't know if you can it in these pics, but I also made those seeds shine with Glossy Accents.  I then topped it with a favorite, summer photo of my beautiful girl, which was matted with white cardstock and backed with the Pineapple Juice, Picnic, Hey Girl!, and More Summer, as well as Sand Rose Gold Metallic, prints, some of which were simply torn to the right size.  I just love the texture that tearing a piece of paper creates.  An At the Beach Die-Cut label, etched with Aug. 2015, Be still my heart., was tucked in the paper layers along the left side of the photo.
The cluster over the top, left corner of the photo consists of a Bloom Die Cut, "you are one in a melon." Time to Relax Die Cut, and a Summertime Flair Button, all of which were popped up with layers of foam tape.
A duo of Best Days Die Cuts, paired with a "you are so cute" Summer Vibe Word Sticker...
turn our attention to the "one in a melon!" title, which was Cameo-cut from Basic Black cardstock...
and topped with an "adventures" Best Days Die Cut, popped up with foam tape, to complete the look.
I hope you all are having as much fun with the new, summer collections as I am!  Thanks, as always, for humbling me with a visit!  Have an amazing day, friends!

Pretty Little Studio: Summer Fun

Tuesday, September 3, 2019

Welcome to the work week, y'all!  I hope you all had wonderful weekends!  It was so nice to have a little longer of a weekend for the Labor Day holiday here in the states; although, mine was super busy and went far too fast.  I could really use just one more day to catch up and reset.  Beggars can't be choosers, though; so, I'm hitting the ground running and praying that I get to sleep at some point.  Anyhow, I know that you didn't come here to read of my woes; so let's jump right into today's share.  It happens to be up on the Pretty Little Studio blog today and was inspired by the gorgeous, new Chasing the Sun and Fun in the Sun collections.  Enjoy!
I stared this page by adding bright pink, yellow, and teal watercolor puddles to the 12" x 12" watercolor, paper, base page.  Once it was dry, I stamped it, in Jet Black ink, with the honeycomb design and splattered everything with the same shades of watercolor used for the puddles, as well as Pure Black and Titanium White, acrylic paints.  My photo was then set atop a trio of Chasing the Sun 6x6 Paper Pack prints, all anchored with black-threaded, straight, machine stitching, as well as a snippet of cheesecloth for texture and sandwiched between clusters of Bloom Die Cuts, some of which were popped up with foam tape.  The top, left corner was additionally embellished with a stamped, in Jet Black ink, on a watercolor, paper die cut; watercolored; and glittered bumble bee, popped up with more foam tape.
The bottom, right corner...
was also dressed up with a couple of Orange Soda Tag Die Cuts, one of which was laced with white string, tied in a bow (I also popped a "LET'S GO" Photo Shoot Die Cut up off its surface, just for a little more dimension over the original.); smaller, stamped, bumble bee, prepared in the same was as the larger one above...
"FUN IN THE SUN" At the Beach Die Cut; Sunshine Flair Button beach ball; and Time to Relax Die-Cut sunglasses, which were given a kiss of shine with Glossy Accents.
The "SUMMER FUN" title was created with Sunset Word Die Cuts; topped with "LIVE IN THE SUNSHINE" and "family" Best Days Word Die Cuts, popped up with foam tape; and anchored with a "best days" Sunset Word Die Cut.  I squeezed in a sweet, Fly a Kite Die-Cut strawberry...
as well as one last stamped, watercolored, and glittered bumble bee, for good measure.
I think that covers things, folks.  Can't wait to see what you all are cooking up with these collections!  Thanks so much for visiting!  Have a fabulous week!
