For the Love of Books

Thursday, October 31, 2019

Welcome back, y'all!  Just stopping in to share this month's For the Love of Books pick before the month sneaks away from me completely.  This one has been in my home library for at least twenty years; but its tender story and sweet, watercolor illustrations have never brought us as much comfort as they have over the last month since losing our precious dog, Summer.
I'll Always Love You, written and illustrated by Hans Wilhelm, "is a story about Elfie - the best dog in the whole world."  It is told from the perspective of Elfie's owner, a young boy.  The boy and Elfie grew up, played, got into trouble, and dreamed together; but Elfie grew much faster than the boy and died in her sleep one night.  The boy deeply grieved his loss but found comfort in remembering that every night he had told Elfie, "I'll always love you."  He promised that, no matter what pets would come and go in his lifetime, he'd never forget to remind them of such.

Thanks so much for reading!  Have a wonderful weekend, friends!

Pretty Little Studio: National Candy Corn Day

Wednesday, October 30, 2019

Hey, y'all!  Happy National Candy Corn Day!  I'm up, on the Pretty Little Studio blog this morning, sharing some sweet, simple, inexpensive, fall, gift ideas, highlighting a few goodies from the newest Indian Summer Collection.  Enjoy!
I adore these 4 oz. Mason jars ever so much!  They are perfect for special, little, "thank yous" or "thinking of yous" or "just becauses", which I tend to dispense in abundance.  So, it's super important that they don't break the bank.  These cuties fit the bill and fill easily with all kinds of goodies from buttons and sequins to fresh herbs and even candy corn, which happens to work out perfectly on just such a day as today.  Each jar was wrapped with lengths of Baker's Twine to be laced through personalized tags for gift giving.  The base for each came from last year's October/November 2018 Freebie with any purchase.  Melissa does such a good job putting these treasures together each month and making them something that you'll really enjoy.  These three jars happen to hold my last three tags from that particular package.  Let's take a look at each one up close and personal.  Shall we?
I started the first one by stapling a branch, Goodbye Summer Die-Cut tab to its left side and topping it with a Happy Place Die-Cut pot, nestled in amidst a trio of Happy Place and Vellum Leaves Die Cuts, as well as a handful of the Falling Leaves Sequin Mix.
The pot itself was then topped with a "thankful" October/November 2018 Freebie and a "SO GRATEFUL" Happy Place Die-Cut phrase, both of which were popped up with foam tape; before everything was splattered with Pure Black and Titanium White, acrylic paints.  A length of Baker's Twine completes the look.
The second one had a "grateful", Goodbye Summer Die-Cut tab stapled to the left side of the tag and was topped with a Happy Place Die-Cut pear, nestled in amidst a trio of Beautiful Colors and Vellum Leaves Die Cuts, as well as a Time Together Die-Cut floral cluster and handful of the Falling Leaves Sequin Mix.
The pear itself was then topped with a "together" October/November 2018 Freebie and a "friends forever" Goodbye Summer Die Cut, both of which were popped up with foam tape; before everything was splattered with Pure Black and Titanium White, acrylic paints.  A length of Baker's Twine completes the look once again.
The third and final one had an open, Goodbye Summer Die-Cut tab, which was filled in with a So Much Beauty Sticker, stapled to its left side.  It was then topped with a Happy Place Die-Cut kettle, nestled in amidst a trio of Time Together and Vellum Leaves Die Cuts, as well as a handful of the Falling Leaves Sequin Mix.
The kettle itself was then topped with a "celebrate" October/November 2018 Freebie and a "SPICE & ALL GOOD THINGS" Happy Place Die-Cut phrase, both of which were popped up with foam tape and anchored with a Pumpkin Spice Die-Cut blossom; before everything was splattered with Pure Black and Titanium White, acrylic paints.  A length of Baker's Twine completes the look one last time.
That wraps things up for today!  Thanks, as always, for humbling me with a visit!  Have a safe and blessed holiday season.  Hugs!

Pretty Little Studio: Good Times

Wednesday, October 23, 2019

Morning, y'all!  I'm up on the Pretty Little Studio blog today with another page, inspired by the beautiful Indian Summer Collection.  Enjoy!  Oh, and I apologize, in advance, for all the fuzzies on my pics.  It must be that time of year.
I started this page by trimming the left side of a 12" x 12" piece of watercolor paper with a portion of our 12" x 12" Cornucopia print.  Y'all, I totally didn't need to use watercolor paper as my neutral here.  It's just a bit of a habit for me.  Plus, I love the way it absorbs mixed media.  Anyhow, I then splattered everything with Sunshine and Orchard Mister Huey's; Wedding Pink, Fully Purple, and Strawberry Cream Glimmer Mists (These are hands-down my favorite mists of all time!); and Gold Color Shine.  Once it was dry, I anchored that Indian Summer print with lots of gold-threaded, straight, machine stitching, before topping it with my trio of stacked photos, which were all matted with white cardstock.  A "good TIMES" Fun Day Offset Title Die Cut, popped up with foam tape, creates my title, which was crowned with a Time Together Die Cut, as well as a Love This Flair Button, and nestled into a happy collection of Pumpkin Spice, Time Together, and Leaves Vellum Die Cuts.
A "change is in the air" Beautiful Colors Die-Cut pennant was popped up with foam tape amidst the floral goodness...
which utilizes a few September 2019 Freebie leaves to guide the eye down a couple of Goodbye Summer Die-Cut strips, anchored with more gold-threaded, straight, machine stitching...
to the darling, little, Happy Place Die-Cut mushrooms, popped up with foam tape, near the bottom of the page.
The bottom photo was topped with a Goodbye Summer Die-Cut tab, etched with the Sept. 19, '12, date, as well as a Beautiful Colors Die-Cut word bubble, which was popped up with foam tape and used to house a little journaling.  The place of the visit portrayed in these photos, Shatto Dairy Farm w/ the homeschool troop, was hand-written, vertically, to the left of this same photo.
The middle photo was topped with a trio of Goodbye Summer Die-Cut phrases (I don't remember what the frown on Adina's face was all about here.  I gave up on those perfect shots long ago.  It's just life.)...
and the top photo was wrapped with a length of white string, tied in a bow, to complete the look.
I hope that you all are leaving here inspired and having a fabulous fall.  Thanks so much for humbling me with a visit!  Be blessed!

Pretty Little Studio: Happy Place

Sunday, October 13, 2019

Morning, y'all!  Just stopping in to share a fall-inspired page that happens to be up on the Pretty Little Studio blog this am.  I just cannot seem to put the Indian Summer Collection down and thought it would be perfect for this cute pic of my late pup.  She passed away last month.  We had her for 14-1/2 years, and I cannot even begin to express how much I miss her.  I love how scrapbooking can also be healing for a broken heart.
I started this page by adding puddles of teal and orange watercolors to the left side of a 12" x 12" watercolor, paper, base page.  I then splattered it with those same shades of watercolor, as well as pink and light blue watercolors; stamped lots of happy, little leaves, from the Indian Summer clear stamp set, in Pumpkin Pie, Pistachio Pudding, Pool Party, and Jet Black inks; and splattered everything once again, but this time with Pure Black and Titanium White, acrylic paints.  My photo was cut to fit the square near the top of a Magic Days Journaling Card, which was backed with a quartet of torn prints from the 6x6 Paper Pack, as well as a die-cut, with wheat stems, scrap of Barely Banana cardstock, topped with the Love Clear Word Art, anchored with a couple of simple staples, and sandwiched between a Goodbye Summer Die-Cut tab, etched with the 7.12.15, date...

and the Happy Place Die-Cut title, popped up with foam tape.

A "HOME IS WHERE YOU ARE" Happy Place Die-Cut phrase, popped up with foam tape, crowns my journaling, which reads, You love to be home, playing in the backyard, chasing the squirrels, & basking in the sunshine.  Having you there means home to me, b/c home truly is where you are.

My journaling was grounded with a "loving {YOU}" phrase, which was created with a "loving" Goodbye Summer Die Cut, popped up with foam tape, and Inline Gold Alpha Vellum Stickers to spell the word "{YOU}".

A trail of leaves, created from a combination of Vellum Die Cuts, anchored with messy, white-threaded, straight, machine stitching; Time Together Die Cuts; September 2019 Freebie die-cuts; and die-cut, cardstock maples, in combination with a vintage, orange button, laced with white string; Hello Fox Cut-Apart circle; and Monarch Die Cut...

lead to the Time Together Die-Cut wreath, secured hanging off the right side of the design and filled in with more of those same leaves described above, as well as a Gold Metallic Label, filled in with the "ALL THE FEELS" Goodbye Summer Die Cut and anchored with a Love This Flair Button, not to mention a "choose happiness" Hello White Word Sticker and "my heart is so full right now" A Birdy Told Me Black Word Sticker.

A couple more leaves, from the same die-cut packages already used elsewhere in the design...

as well as one more orange button, laced with white string, complete the look.

Thanks, as always, for visiting!  Give your precious pets extra kisses and cuddles today; and have an amazing week, friends!

Pretty Little Studio: Pure Bliss

Saturday, October 5, 2019

Welcome to the weekend, y'all!  I hope you all have spectacular plans to occupy your free time.  We're heading out to a band competition, for my oldest, this morning; and I'm hoping to start tearing apart my ugly, outdated kitchen and making it the cohesive, useful beauty, that I know is in there someplace, later.  I promise to share details, right here on my blog, as they unfold; but until then, I have another Indian-Summer-Collection-inspired creation, which just so happens to be up on the Pretty Little Studio blog this morning, to share with you all.  Here goes!
I started this page by adding a little, white gesso to the Pie Spice 12" x 12", patterned, paper, base page.  Once it was dry, I topped it with puddles and splatters of bright pink, aqua, and teal watercolors.  I then stamped a few strategically-placed starbursts, in Jet Black ink, throughout the design, before splattering everything once again, but this time with Pure Black and Titanium White, acrylic paints.  That set the stage for my photo, which was matted with white cardstock; backed with a trio of Indian Summer prints, including Comfy Sweater, Deciduous, and Cranberry Jell-O, all anchored with gold-threaded, straight, machine stitching, as well as a snippet of cheesecloth for texture; and wrapped, three times, with a length of white string, tied in a bow.   I then framed a "what a MOMENT" Offset Title Die Cut, to the photo's bottom, right corner, with a Timeless Die-Cut Frame...
surrounded it with a variety of Pumpkin Spice and Time Together Die Cuts, many of which were popped up with foam tape; and grounded it with a Love This Flair Button...
as well as Inline Alpha Vellum Stickers to spell the word "FOUR" and a hand-written "years-old" detail.
A sweet, little, Happy Place Die-Cut owl perches atop the "what a MOMENT" phrase.
A secondary Pumpkin Spice and Time Together Die-Cut, floral cluster helps to frame and highlight the photo itself.  This cluster also includes that gorgeous, Beautiful Colors Die-Cut butterfly, popped up with foam tape...
and spills over into the "pure BLISS" Happy Place Die Cut, which I claimed for my title.
The "YOU MEAN SO MUCH TO ME" Happy Place and "adorable" Goodbye Summer Die-Cut phrases and playful, green, Goodbye Summer Die-Cut, bird flag, not to mention the scattering of gold, Starry Night Confetti stars, complete the look.
Before I take off, I also wanted to share this month's festive Autumn Circle Die-Cut Freebie with any purchase of $35 or more...

as well as the Autumn Leaf Vellum Freebie with any purchase of $1 or more.  Stop by and pick up yours with your pre-order of the newest Christmas/winter collection, Glimmer & Ice, TODAY!
Thanks so much for stopping by!  Have a wonderful weekend, friends!
