For the Love of Books

Tuesday, March 31, 2020

Evening, y'all!  Just popping in, before March completely sneaks away from me, with this month's For the Love of Books pick.  With Passover being only two weeks away, I thought that I'd take today to share an extra sweet and perfectly simple, information book, complete with a recipe for matzah brei and glossary of terms, about this treasured, Jewish holiday.
From the special blessing to start off the seder to hunting for the Afikomen, in A Sweet Passover, written by Leslea Newman and illustrated by David Slonim, "Miriam loved everything about Passover; but most of all, she loved eating matzah."  At least, she did until the eighth and final day of the festival, when she had had enough and refused to eat matzah ever again, even Grandpa's famous matzah brei.  It was at that low point that Miriam's family lovingly reminded her that there is far more to matzah than just matzah itself.

Happy reading; and have a zissen Pesach (sweet Passover), dear friends!

Pretty Little Studio: It's Your Birthday Cards

Thursday, March 26, 2020

Morning, y'all!  I'm just stopping in to share a trio of cards that happened to have been up on the Pretty Little Studio blog earlier this week.  They were inspired by the It's Your Birthday Collection.  I never seem to have enough birthday cards on hand.  Matter of fact, one of these went out to my nephew a week late, despite the fact that I've had his gift in had for over a month, because I've put this pressure on myself to hand-make all of the cards from my family.  I really should plan ahead better, because we all know that getting creative just takes time.  Anyhow, without further adieu, check them out!
Let's get a little more up close and personal.  Shall we?
I started this card by piecing together the Birthday 11 and Birthday 32 prints onto the 4-1/4" x 5-1/2" white, cardstock, card face.  I then overlaid them with a 3-3/4" x 5" piece of vellum, which had been dry embossed with polka dots, to soften the look a bit, not to mention add a hint of texture, and anchored everything with a teal-threaded, straight, machine-stitched frame.  The space between the two It's Your Birthday prints was then wrapped, three times, with a length of white string, tied, in a bow, to the left edge of the card face.
That set the stage for the I'm 5 Today Vintage Die Cut, which was popped up, with foam tape, in the center of the card face and truly is the highlight of this creation.
A trio of Document Life Star Stickers, a couple of which were backed with white cardstock, hand-cut out, and popped up with foam tape, were scattered, amidst a trio of Always Aqua Sequins, throughout the design.  I also coated all of those colorful stars with Glossy Accents for a little more shine and texture; and a "good times" Eat Cake Word Die-Cut sentiment, kissed with a little Clear Wink of Stella, completes the look.
The middle card above was created in a similar fashion to the first with the exception of having used the Birthday 17 and Birthday 04 prints rather than the previous two.
I also tucked a Celebrate 3x4 Pocket Card in behind the length of white string, tied in a bow.
The darling Mary Vintage Die Cut was then popped up, with foam tape, just to the left of that string bow.
Another trio of Document Life Star Stickers, prepared in the same way as above and scattered amidst more of those gorgeous Always Aqua Sequins, surround the quartet of combined, birthday-themed, Happy Day Color Sticker, Eat Cake Word Die-Cut, and Tales & Dreams Daily Dreams Die-Cut sentiments to complete the look.
The third and final card, too, was prepared in the same way as the first with the exception of utilizing the Birthday 15 print topped by an older, colorful, star print.
In the same way as the second card above, I also added another Celebrate 3x4 Pocket Card to this creation; however, it was popped up, with foam tape, over the string wrap...
and topped with the playful Alfalfa Vintage Die Cut.
An Eat Cake Word Die Cut, prepared in the same way as the first, was then adhered over a "documented" Beautiful Day A Great Day Flag Sticker, just to the left of Alfalfa.  Another trio of Document Life Star Stickers, prepared in the same way as above and scattered amidst more of those gorgeous Always Aqua Sequins, complete the look.
Thanks so much for visiting!  Be blessed, friends!

Luckiest

Wednesday, March 25, 2020

Morning, y'all!  I trust you all are enduring in our current state of affairs.  I really don't even want to talk about it.  I'm wiped; so, friends, I'm just going to get right to some happy, creative inspiration.  This page was made exclusively with the January 2020 Hip Kits.  Enjoy!
I started this page by adding white gesso to Pinkfresh's Joyful Heart background paper.  I then topped it with a puddle of green watercolor and splattered everything with custom-mixed, green, blue, pink, and yellow watercolors, as well as Pure Black and Titanium White, acrylic paints.  That set the stage for my photo, which was popped up, with foam tape, over a quartet of Pinkfresh prints, all anchored with green-threaded, straight, machine stitching, as well as a couple of journaling cards.  A trio of floral die cuts was tucked in behind the top, left corner of the "Check list..." card...
whose bottom rectangle was filled in with the March 17, '14 date; and the longer, blue-framed, journaling card was used to record a little journaling, which reads, I'm the luckiest girl ever to have 3 beautiful, healthy kids that call me mom.
The photo itself was matted with white cardstock; wrapped, three times, with a length of white string, tied in a bow; backed with a snippet of cheesecloth for texture; and crowned with a chipboard, "memories" arrow.  A dual-colored, chipboard frame was popped up, with foam tape, just to the right of my photograph and filled in with an "I am the luckiest", foam, accent Thicker.
A "lucky" die cut, coated with Clear Wink of Stella, serves as my title...
and foam, accent, candy hearts, as well as enamel, glitter hearts and hand-cut, from Pinkfresh's Lucky Us print, clovers, were scattered throughout the design to complete the look.
Thanks so much for humbling me with a visit!  Have a wonderful Wednesday, friends!

Pretty Little Studio: Sunny Spring

Sunday, March 22, 2020

Morning, y'all!  I trust that everyone is doing the very best that they can be doing amidst the chaos that has completely disrupted our way of life.  I'm finding it difficult to even focus on creating; but I was finally able to put together a happy page, inspired by our Savannah Dreams and Fun in the Sun Collections.  It was additionally kissed by the quartet of collections listed below and happened to be up on the Pretty Little Studio blog late last week.  I hope that it inspires and creates a bit of a distraction, from our new reality, for you.  Enjoy!
I started this page by adding puddles of yellow, orange, and pink watercolors behind where I knew the center of my Sun Background cut file would be located.  I then Cameo-cut said cut file, designed by the talented Kristine Davidson, from the Embrace Joy 12" x 12" print; anchored it, in its current location, with gold-threaded, straight, machine stitching; and splattered everything with the same shades of watercolor mentioned above, as well as Pure Black and Titanium White, acrylic paints.  That set the stage for my photos, which were all matted with white cardstock and adhered, in a messy grid design, over scraps of Laugh All Day, Daydream, Pretty Meadow, Silent Bloom Vellum, and the Ain't Life Grand Collection's Lovely Life print, most of which were anchored with more of that delicious, gold-threaded, straight, machine stitching.  A Good Vibes Die Cut, popped up with foam tape and dressed up with additional blossoms, hand-cut from aforementioned Pretty Meadow and the Sweet Life Collection's Beautiful Life print, as well as a "LIFE LOOKS LIKE THIS" Document Life Collection Insta-Worthy Flair Button, backed with a tangle of gold thread, dress up the combined center of the top four photos.
A number of those hand-cut and Good Vibes Die-Cut florals trail off to the right side of my photos, where they were further embellished with a Happy Place Die-Cut umbrella and butterfly, as well as a Tales and Dreams Collection Shipping Tag, laced with white string, tied in a bow.
The tails of that string guide the eye to that darling Flopsey Vintage Die Cut, popped up with foam tape...
and another cluster of hand-cut and Good Vibes Die-Cut florals...
the latter of which anchor the left side of my "sunny spring", vertical title, which was created from a Clear Word Art print and March 2018 Freebie Die Cut.
A "so much happiness" Floral Fantasy Die Cut, grounded with a Label It Die Cut, etched with cousins @ play 5.17.08, as well as a "HELLO" All Together Word Sticker...
and Happy Place Die-Cut bird, anchors the left side of my design; and a couple more hand-cut, from the Pretty Meadow print, flowers complete the look.
Thanks so much for humbling me with a visit!  Stay safe, and take care of one another, friends!  XOXO

Lucky Hearts

Friday, March 6, 2020

Morning, y'all!  TGIF!  I hope you all have spectacular plans for the weekend.  I was hoping to have a little time off from the busyness of the season, but we've just piled more things onto the to-do list.  We'll get back to those relaxing weekends one of these days.  All in due time.  Anyhow, I just wanted to pop in to share another page that I've been working on using the January 2020 Hip Kits.  Check it out!
I started this page by adding puddles of periwinkle and blue watercolors to the 12" x 12" watercolor paper, base page.  I then splattered it with those same shades of watercolor, as well as green, bright pink, and red watercolors, before stamping the background with two rows of interlocking, open hearts, which I also watercolored, using a trio from those same five shades listed above.  The entire page was then splattered once again, but this time with Pure Black and Titanium White, acrylic paints.  I then fussy-cut three rows of hearts from Pink Paislee's Lucky Us, patterned print and anchored them, over my previously-stamped rows, with white-threaded, zig-zag, machine stitching.
That set the stage for my photo, which was matted with white cardstock; set atop a trio of patterned prints, all anchored with silver-threaded, straight, machine stitching; backed with a mustard tag, laced with white string, tied in a bow, as well as a snippet of cheesecloth for texture; and sandwiched between a couple of "king [and] queen of my heart", foam, accent Thickers.
A chipboard circle frames the foam florals, which were accented with black and white, leafy and heart die cuts, as well as a chipboard, "celebrate today" sticker, near the top of the design.
The "Cute", puffy sticker overlaps the "lucky", foam, phrase Thicker, which in turn overlaps a "THE BEAUTY OF RIGHT NOW" die cut, grounding the design.
A duo of stamped, in Jet Black ink, phrases...
number of additional, chipboard, circle stickers and die cuts, one of the latter of which was embellished with Clear Wink of Stella and Glossy Accents; and a handful of sparkle, enamel dots complete the look.
Thanks so much for stopping by to see what I've been up to.  Have a wonderful weekend, friends!
