For the Love of Books

Thursday, April 30, 2020

Afternoon, y'all!  Just stopping in, on this last day of April, to share this month's For the Love of Books pick.  Adina handpicked this favorite of hers for you all, and I don't think that she could have chosen any more wisely.  It is a treasure that has graced our personal library shelves since the year it was published.
I'm Special, I'm Me!, written by Ann Meek and illustrated by Sarah Massini, is the story of a little boy named Milo who just wants to be who he wants to be.  At school, on the playground, Milo wants to be a lion in the jungle game; but his friends say that he isn't "strong enough to be the king of the jungle.  So Milo is a very sad monkey."  When he gets home, Mom helps him to see how wonderful swinging through the trees can be.  The next day, Milo wants to be a captain, when the children are playing pirates; but his friends say that he isn't tall enough to be a captain and has to be a deck hand.  When he gets home, Mom shows him how perfect he is "for climbing to the top of the sails to be a lookout."  Milo hadn't thought of that.  Every day that his friends tell him that he isn't right for the part that he wants to play, Mom opens his eyes to, not only how honorable, exciting, and adventurous the different roles can be, but also how perfect he is to play them; until Milo is confident that he is special enough to be whatever he wants to be.

Happy reading, friends!  Be blessed!

Forever Friend

It feels weird to say welcome to the work week, y'all!  But that's what's happening in my neck of the woods.  We are so fortunate that, while there are times when my hubby must leave for job site meetings and whatnot, he has been able to do the majority of his work right from our home.  He set up a big desk in his man cave, and the rest of us continue to go about our homeschool business as usual.  We're creeping up on the close of another school year and are so looking forward to a little downtime, before my kiddos will be back to the books (probably a little earlier than usual, since literally everything fun has been closed for the summer) as first, sixth, and twelfth graders.  Yes, I will have a high school graduate this time next year.  I can hardly believe that I'm saying that.  Where has the time gone?!  Anyway, I know that you all came here to see a little creative inspiration.  So, without further adieu, I have a page, inspired by the March Felicity Jane kit, to share.  Enjoy!
I started this page by adding white gesso to the center of the soft green, scalloped, base page.  Once it was dry, I added puddles of Oom Pah Pah Pink, Andrea's Azalea, Martina's Marigold, and Jana's Jade Magical Powders and splattered everything with those same powders, as well as green watercolor, before stamping the starbursts, from Wplus9 Design's Whole Lotta Happy stamp set, in Tattered Rose Distress Ink and Brocade Blue and Garden Green SU! inks and the solid stars, from a Citrus Twist stamp set, in Jet Black ink and splattering everything, once again, but this time with Pure Black and Titanium White acrylic paints.  That set the stage for my photos, which were matted with white cardstock and backed with lots of pretty prints, as well as a 3x4 journaling card, all from the March Kit and anchored with white-threaded, straight, machine stitching.  I also used the wax envelope from the kit, whose flap was anchored with a chipboard star, to wrap my bottom, left photo.
That same photo was crowned with a mustard tab, stamped, in Jet Black ink, with "AmiGaS", which came from Market Street Stamps' BFFs stamp set.  The top, left photo was wrapped, three times, with a length of white string, tied in a bow...
and the top, right photo was crowned with the "FOREVER friend" title, which was created with mint, puffy alphas and a die-cut "friend", popped up with foam tape.  I also stamped the word "love", from the kit's stamp set, in Jet Black ink, above it.  That font is pure deliciousness!
A polka dot tag was then laced with white string, tied in a bow, and tucked in behind that same photograph, which was, in turn, topped with a green, "THIS", chipboard word.
The stamped, in Jet Black ink, "fRienDs foReveR" phrase came from the same Market Street Stamps set mentioned above; and the stamped, "COUNT MY LUCKY STARS" and "once in a lifetime" phrases...
as well as the "DOCUMENTED" Sept. 29, 2019, label are from Citrus Twist.  I've included, literally, all the delicious, puffy-sticker; die-cut; and fabric stars from the kit, not to mention a few of those scrumptious, clear sequins, throughout the design.
My journaling reads, Adina and Audrey celebrating Sammy's 6th birthday @ Rockin' Jump in El Paso, TX; and a couple of additional prints, from the March Kit, were anchored, with white-threaded, straight, machine stitching, down the left edge of the base page, to complete the look.
That wraps things up for today, friends.  Please let me know if you have any questions at all, and thanks so much for stopping by!  Have a truly terrific week!  XOXO

Pretty Little Studio: Quarantine

Thursday, April 23, 2020

Morning, y'all!  The Pretty Little Studio Design Team is getting creative this week, despite the onset of the Coronavirus, and using the April Freebies to bring you all Covid-19-inspired projects.  I happened to have been up on the blog earlier this week, sharing this colorful page, additionally inspired by the Color Me Happy Collection; but before I get too deep into its explanation, I feel like I need to clarify that my children have, in no way, needed the masks they are wearing in the photograph below.  They have not been out in public in nearly two months.  In the photo, we were on our way to a hiking trail to get some fresh air and exercise and see the desert poppies, and they all thought it would be fun to don their masks.  I made one for my hubby, because he is an essential worker and has been out and about in our city; and my kiddos thought they each needed one, too.  I obliged, and they were eager to record this memory.  With that said, enjoy!
I started this page by adding large puddles of yellow and bright pink watercolors to the 12" x 12" watercolor paper, base page.  I then splattered it with those same shades of watercolor, as well as aqua, teal, and purple watercolors, and stamped a few linear rings, in Jet Black ink, throughout the design, before splattering everything once again, but this time with Pure Black and Titanium White, acrylic paints.  That set the stage for my photo, which was set atop clippings of the Crazy Cool and Oh So Geo prints, both of which were anchored with white-threaded, straight, machine stitching, as well as a Chasing the Sun Star Gazing Bookmark Pennant Card; "Quarantine" COVID Bingo Card Download Freebie, which also serves as my title; and folded piece of Rainbow Parade Vellum.
I also stapled a "noted:" 4.16.20, Ain't Life Grand EveryDay Cut-Apart pennant to the bottom, left corner of my photo before scattering lots of Hear Me Roar Die-Cut dots, in a trio of different sizes, some of which were popped up with foam tape, throughout the design.
Tossed in amidst the die-cut dots, is a Document Life Insta-Worthy Flair Button; trio of Ain't Life Grand EveryDay Cut-Apart circles; length of white string, tied in a bow...
couple of Sweet Drops Flair Buttons...
and lots of sequins, including Summer Vibes Crystal 8mm, Beautiful Day Watermelon, and orange and blue beauties from the Potpourri Falling Leaves Sequin Mix.
I then made lots of notes, specifically relating to the "stay home, work safe" orders within my own community, on lots of different collections' labels, including Fun in the Sun Summer Labels, XOXO Always Labels, Chasing the Sun Sundae Labels...
Feels Like Fall Playful Labels, It's Your Birthday Sweet Treats Labels, and Rose Gold Metallic Cut-Apart Labels.
A couple of "DON'T BE AFRAID" and "STAY STRONG" Starbright Word Stickers...
and lots of phrase stickers from the April 2020 COVID-19 Sticker Sheet, as well as cut-apart phrases from the April 2020 Freebie Phrase Cut-Aparts, complete the look.
Before I run, I wanted to share those April Freebies, with you all, up close and personal.  The April 2020 Freebie Phrase Cut-Aparts can be yours with any purchase of $1 or more...
and you will receive the April 2020 Freebie COVID-19 Sticker Sheet with any purchase of $35 or more.
The COVID Bingo Cards Freebie Download can be picked up at your convenience.  Just stop by the shop today, and start scrapping those memories!
Thanks so much for visiting, friends!  Have a fabulous rest of your week, and stay safe!  XOXO

Grrreat! Birthday Wishes

Thursday, April 16, 2020

Morning, y'all!  I hope your week is going well.  We're plugging right along at our studies, and my hubby is still working, mostly, from home.  It's nice to have him around, but I feel like I get absolutely zilch time to myself now; and I'm, for sure, going stir crazy, even though we've got a heap of home-improvement projects, to keep us busy, going on.  It's all kind of a recipe for disaster, but we're happy and healthy; and truthfully, I have nothing to complain about.

Anyhow, today starts an enormous amount of springtime birthdays in my family.  So, I duplicated one cute, guy card two times over for some of the men in my life.  Check them out!
I started these cards by stamping the bear, from Stampin' Up!'s Under the Stars stamp set, as well as the Jenni Bowlin, "FILE UNDER" label and "BIRTHDAY WISHES" sentiment, from Wplus9 Design's Whole Lotta' Happy stamp set, in Jet Black ink, on 3-3/4" x 5" pieces of watercolor paper.  I then watercolored those cute bears...
stamped the "grrreat!", from the same stamp set as the bear, in Cherry Cobbler ink, within the stamped label; and splattered everything with bright blue and gray-blue watercolors and Pure Black and Titanium White, acrylic paints.
Once everything was dry, I framed the stamped pieces with Brocade Blue cardstock and white-threaded, straight, machine stitching; wrapped the top of the prepped pieces, three times, with lengths of Baker's Twine, tied, in bows, to the left edges; and popped them off the surface of the white, cardstock, card faces, with foam tape, to complete the look.
I'm signing off for the weekend.  I've got to put on my foreman's cap, or things are never going to get finished around my place.  Thanks so much for visiting, friends!  Have a wonderful weekend!

Bloom with Grace

Monday, April 13, 2020

Happy Monday, y'all!  I trust you all had wonderful, Easter weekends.  Our Saturday was a bit stressful.  My hubby had a project going on all day; and I had planned to get a few of my own done, while he gave me a little break from our school week and looked after the kiddos.  Needless to say, that did not happen.  So, as usual, my projects got put on the back burner.  Sigh... but Sunday was full of fun; as we celebrated our risen Lord with virtual church, lots of playtime, and heaps of good food, including a delicious, strawberry shortcake.  Yum!  I also got a little time, after my kiddos went to bed, to edit some of the following photos of my very first Felicity Jane package.  Yay!  So, without further adieu, check out what I've created.
I started this page by adding white gesso to the Hearts 12" x 12" print.  I then added puddles of Andrea's Azalea and Oom Pah Pah Pink Magical Powders.  Once that was dry, I rubbed Barely Banana ink through a chevron stencil, laid vertically across the center of my design; splattered everything with those same Magical Powders, as well as Martina's Marigold Magical Powder and Pure Black and Titanium White, acrylic paints.  I then added the ticket strips parallel with the chevrons and layered a trio of 3x4 journaling cards, one of which was anchored with white-threaded, straight, machine stitching, to their combined right.
That little, stitched, sentiment card was the inspiration for this page.  It was topped with a stamped, in Jet Black StazOn ink, on a hand-cut, vellum pennant, "Bloom", which was anchored with a stamped, in Tattered Rose Distress and Garden Green inks, on white cardstock and hand-cut, floral stem, as well as a couple of butterfly die cuts, popped up with foam tape...
and grounded with a hand-cut, from a 3x4 journaling card, rainbow; puffy-sticker house; and scallop die cut, all adhered over a couple of additional, stamped and hand-cut, floral stems.
My photo, which was matted with white cardstock, was adhered, to the left of the ticket strips, over clippings of the Tiny Spots and Gingham prints, as well as a rainbow-striped, journaling card, all anchored with more white-threaded, straight, machine stitching, and backed with a snippet of cheesecloth for texture.  A "DAY BY DAY" die cut and Nov. 3, 2019, label embellish the photo's bottom, left corner.
One last journaling card was adhered above my photo; embellished with a quartet of additional, chipboard and puffy-sticker hearts; topped with a gorgeous, mint-green tab, which I stamped, in Jet Black ink, with the "WITH GRACE" phrase and dressed up with a length of white string, tied in a bow; and used to house my journaling.  My journaling reads, I just love to watch you 3 play together, especially when it draws the whole neighborhood out to play.
Puffy-sticker alphas to spell out "LOVE" and a hand-written "you" ground the entire design and complete the look.
I cannot wait to show you all what else I've been working on with this gorgeous kit.  Thanks so much for visiting, friends!  Have a wonderful week!

Pretty Little Studio: My Kind of Perfect Easter

Thursday, April 9, 2020

Morning, y'all!  The Pretty Little Studio Design Team is sharing Easter projects this week in celebration of this coming Sunday being Resurrection Day.  So, I've created a page inspired by our newest, colorful collection, Color Me Happy.  It happened to have been up on the blog earlier this week; and I wanted to share it, with you all, here, too.  Enjoy!
I started this page by framing my photos with Merry Go Round and Over the Rainbow Die-Cut Polaroids; arranging them, along with a Be Cool Pocket Journaling Card, in the center of the Yummy Sprinkles 12" x 12" patterned print, in the formation you see above; and framing them with a double, black-threaded, machine-stitched frame.  That set the stage for a heap of scrumptious embellishments, beginning at the top of the page with a combined collection of Over the Rainbow and Merry Go Round Die Cuts, popped up with foam tape for dimension.
Moving clockwise, a darling, Merry Go Round Die-Cut lamb...
anchors the right end of a trio of banners, grounded with the largest Hear Me Roar Die Cut.  I layered a couple of smaller, die-cut, from vellum and the Cutie Patootie 8" x 8" print, banners into the mix...
and anchored their left ends with the "SO MUCH FUN" Stay True Word Die Cut, popped up with foam tape and topped with a "MY KIND OF PERFECT" Starbright Word Sticker, backed with white cardstock, hand-cut out, and popped up with foam tape.
The journaling space, on the Be Cool Pocket Journaling Card, houses the location and date of our Easter egg hunt, pictured in my photos, and reads, Easter @ Grandpa & Grandma's, April 20, 2014.
The bottom photo was sandwiched between another sweet Merry Go Round Die Cut, holding an Over the Rainbow Die-Cut umbrella, on the right...
and a couple of Merry Go Round Die-Cuts, which I turned into flower tops, grounded with die-cut, from Basic Black cardstock, flower stems, on the left.
One final, Merry Go Round Die-Cut critter, just because they're ever so cute (Right?!)...
and a couple of bright green brads, through with I wrapped a length of Baker's Twine and tied it, in a bow, to the left of the topmost photo, not to mention lots of Clear Wink of Stella to highlight all the sweet, smiling cheeks and perky ears throughout the design, complete the look.
Thanks so much for visiting, friends!  And may your Easter seasons be full of fun, teamed with grace, and overflowing with peace.  Blessings!
